[tw5] Re: [tw] Re: Continue order list numbering after code block?

2021-08-15 Thread Douglas Glenn
Eric,

# Step 1
# Step 2
# Step 3

My bad, I took the '# Step 1' as simply being a placeholder since the #
alone creates it's place in the numbering system.

At least I noticed my own typo on the last image (=+ vs +=) and fixed it as
well.

Still can't believe I forgot to close the properly, but now I'm
retired, I haven't had to diddle with CSS or HTML on a daily basis for
several years. Teach me to having said 'yech' when I first saw HTML in 95.
I'd been building ANSI screen displays for several years and while I was
sooo glad ANSI was on the way out, I was too burned out to take up HTML
when it came on the scene.

Appreciate your input. It's that 'attention to detail' thing on my side.
Need reminding from time to time.

[tw5] Re: [tw] Re: Continue order list numbering after code block?

2021-08-13 Thread Douglas Glenn
Although this is an old thread, I had encountered the same issue in TW5.
5.3.2.

It may be possible the fix shown above works with Markdown, but I am using
'text/vnd.tiddlywiki'. I had fiddled with the font sizes a few days earlier
trying to increase the editor font size and it appears I had made the
Markdown text hideously large as displayed in the preview view. I didn't
want take the time to fix the font issue and reformat to Markdown at the
time.  So ...

There are two issues that occur if there is any deviation from the
displayed code.

   1. A single tag for the entire list data doesn't work. Code
   indentation within the list is lost and numbering again begins at 1.
   2. When using 2 tags, if the second start tag is on a new line, issue 1
   will again occur.

The second tag must begin right after the first closing tag to maintain the
expected indentation and numbering continuation. These can be separated by
a space or two, but again, no linefeed or carriage returns between the
tags.

 code
# 1
# 2
# 3 text for x number of lines and the ending text is terminated as
shown on this line. The tags must not have spaces between the ending text
and  tags like this. .

```
code block.
```

# 4 next data point
# 5 etc.
 /code

2021-02-21 Thread Douglas Glenn
arunn,

Disabling the Tekan plugin worked. I had run through the palettes and
themes to try and track it down and was just starting on the plugins.

Thank you much for saving me more time. I didn't have anything super
special that I needed, I was just going to verify my upgrade to 5.1.23
changed the plugin path. Apparently the offline upgrade.html has not had
that change made yet but the sites upgrade process did. I had just fixed it
and still no fix.

It may simply be interference from another plugin. It used to work fine

2020-12-19 Thread Douglas Glenn
Mohammad,

Your tutorial says:

It is recommended to use the official *Bibtex Importer* plugin for using
with bibliography code.

I cannot find it.
*Note:* The sidebar Bibtex tab can also be used for details of bibliography
macro.
I don't have this tab.

Now I just have to learn how to use it
:-)

[tw5] kookma links management

2020-12-19 Thread Douglas Glenn
Greetings Mohammad,

Just a FYI if you have the time to correct them anytime soon.

>From the link in your recent entry of Refnotes in the Tiddlywiki under the
Resources tiddler, you updated it 20 Nov 2020, but but the link referenced:

https://kookma.github.io/Refnotes/
This resulted in a 404 error.

It should point to https://kookma.github.io/TW-Refnotes/
This link works.

On that page, the installation link did had the same 404 error

I noticed someone had made a change an hour before I logged onto Github
yesterday. The video link was still there when I visited but I note it's
gone today.

Re: [tw5] Wikitext monospace block oddity

2020-12-19 Thread Douglas Glenn
@Mohamed Amin

That works as well, but as in all my previous tiddlers as tw5 wikitext, I
was highlighting the blocks text and using the button in the editor to
mark it as monotext. It was using ```block``` without problems. Since the
result was showing a single backtick as part of the block and all the text
below it, I had played with it and discovered `` would work.

When an editor starts displaying different formatting behavior using the
defaults and no changes, that gets me nervous. Imagine if that occurred to
you while writing up a peer review with it's strict formatting. It would be
disturbing. It's like creating a HTML page displayed differently from
previous HTML pages using the same browser.

It's not like scouring code for hours, spotting nothing, have a peer review
it to discover a variable, function or class had a capitol letter instead
of lower case. That has happened often enough to me it's embarrassing :-)

Ah, I had not associated that selection with it. For some reason I was
thinking it only applied to coding. That resolved it. (Note to others:
Disabling or enabling this feature requires a restart)

Re: TW-Refnotes
I installed it. I should have used an analogy of an index in a reference
book. Refnotes would be time/labor intensive to go back and retrofit it to
an existing wiki or even one that is still a work in progress unless you
use it from the beginning.

Not that creating an Index wouldn't be as well. I can imagine a plugin to
export the content against an ignore set of words, then wacking the
irrelevant lines from it then import it again. But I lack the knowledge of
javascript, TW and the time to pursue the idea.

Note: TOC could be finer grained but the current fixed-fluid and
fluid-fixed format fights it. If we could grab a handle between the windows
and adjust the width on the fly it could make it workable for the time you
need to take a deeper look. You have to do it now in order to find a
specific labeled tiddler with the $:/ when you only know a partial string
to do a lookup. The fluid-fixed option cuts off the longer tiddlers to the
right. Hence the need to jump into the Control Panel to switch the setting.

[tw5] Wiki link out of nowhere

2020-12-18 Thread Douglas Glenn
Shown is a section of a edited tiddler where a wiki link is appearing in
the preview and when not defined as a link. It also appears when the edit
is finished and the tiddler saved.

[image: wikiling.jpg]

Note: I'm using this particular tiddlywiki to create notes similar to
handwritten notes from a class to help burn the info to the brain and
reference later on.

PS: Does anyone know how to generate an index similar to a Word Processor
that point to a relevant section a keyword exists? Either a macro or plugin?

A novices inquiring mind wishes to know.
TIA
Doug

[tw] Re: Salvaging an improperly saved TiddlyWiki

Simply importing the tiddlers into a new empty wiki will fix this. The
edits done before your last save though will be gone because those were not
saved within the file but within the browser's memory.

After downloading a new "empty.html" TiddlyWiki from the website, open the
empty TW and go to its Tools > Import and select your damaged file. You
will see all your tiddlers listed there. Uncheck any that you don't want
to be imported, then do the import and save. Done...

I would also be awesome if the order of the table of contents could be

Perhaps to drag current TOC items to the top of the list. Arrange the TOC
alphabetically with Drag and Drop, etc. Not having to use macros to do
this would make TiddlyWiki more accessible to your basic user.

[tw] Re: No Linking to External Files in node.js setup?

2017-04-15 Thread Douglas Counts
Just a few suggestions as I don't have the time right now to do a deeper
look at the problem:

Node.JS can serve up images, video, or anything else you might want.
 Whether TiddlyWiki itself though is coded for that, I'm not sure. Normally
one simply assigns a route using Express.JS middleware to serve up static
files. So there is a way to do this, I have done so on many websites, I
just don't have the time at the moment to dig deeper into how/if TiddlyWiki
itself is coded for this, but it is possible with Node.JS.

Regarding your links to your PDF files, I used to make this same mistake
too. You need to use relative external links instead. It saves you a lot
on typing too.

I used to load PDFs into a browser tab and copy the URL into TiddlyWike
before I realized *relative external links* were available.

So if you have a subdirectory below where your TiddlyWikis are like:
./TWDataFiles/PDFs

And you have a book located in there like so:
./TWDataFiles/PDFs/Instant TiddlyWiki Development.pdf

Then you can link to it like so:
[ext[Instant TiddlyWiki Development|TWDataFiles/PDFs/Instant TiddlyWiki
Development.pdf]]

Notice that you need to not use the conventional [[title|link]] but
instead use  [ext[title|link]]  instead.

There is actually some good documentation on external links here [Linking
in WikiText]
.

Good luck,

-Doug

[tw] Re: Noteself Error (for Danielo)

2017-04-14 Thread Douglas Counts
Thanks Danielo,

After reading this thread more and trying a few things out, I finally got
this to work for me. Using it only at https://noteself.github.io/online/ is
the best solution as it remembers you because your state is saved within
your own browser.

Clicking the save button on the online website saves the Tiddlers to your
system as a JSON file that you can import into a new or other local
TiddlyWiki. You will not get a local HTML file to use from there though.

If you want to use it locally, then you have to click the save button at
https://noteself.github.io/. Think of the "Save Config" button more as a
"*Refresh
Notebooks*" button as it allows you to see Tiddlers from the other
Notebooks. Save Config isn't the best choice for a description of what it
does and I would recommend changing it to make that button more descriptive.

This looks really awesome, now that I've figured out how to use it. I
would definitely change the "Save Config" button's label to "*Refresh
Notebooks*" though and perhaps change up the description of how to use it
as the App goes against the normal user experiences expected by a
TiddlyWiki user.

Many may initially think the App is broken and not continue to use it when
they really simply don't understand that the user experience is going to be
substantially different compared to what they are used to. I know that I
was initially confused and thought that the App was broken. I'm going to
have to take a good look at the code as I think that I can make use of some
of these ideas in other ongoing projects that I have.

This project and Mat's new SearchWords
 are both
absolutely BRILLIANT!

Thanks again Danielo,

[tw] Re: Copying TW file from Android mobile to Windows laptop

2017-04-14 Thread Douglas Counts
Hey Egbert,

I would download an empty TiddlyWiki from the website. Then go to Tools >>
Import and choose the file that you copied over from your Android. You
should be able to see all the tiddlers that way and select which ones you
wish to import.

After importing, click the save button, then refresh the browser, and now
you should be good to go

Hope that works for you,

2017-04-14 Thread Douglas Counts
Hey Danielo,

I've been trying it out but I have some questions for you.

Why does the local file save all these JSON files? I thought it was
supposed to use the Browser's internal storage?

Also, I thought tiddlers were supposed to be attached to notebooks somehow,
but even when I change the name in the notebook field, it doesn't seem to
work that way.

Am I missing something or does it not work the same locally?

I've been kicking it's tires using Google Chrome.

I noticed that most of your responses to this post are about reinventing
the wheel. *Don't*. Both the IMDB and the Open
Movie Database have interfaces into their vast movie
databases. You can query either one using an ajax request and parse the
JSON that is returned. You can even fetch images and more for each movie
you wish to save to your wiki.

That way, once you have figured out how to fetch the movie poster and data
for one movie, you can then leverage that knowledge to build a template for
all the others you wish to save data on. There are several projects on
GitHub that contain code on how to do this like this one here
. You will notice that you can fetch image
links and the data for things like the movie poster, description, rating,
year published, genre, director, metascore, writer, runtime, and more.

Once you have the data, you can use the movie poster link inside an image
tag to display the poster and use the data like the description inside your
content. If you have fifty or more DVD's that you wish to catalog, you
will save enormous amounts of time if you spend the time up front figuring
out how to query for the data and leveraging that. Also, filling up your
wiki with images, instead of links to online images, will make your file
size grow quickly and soon become slow and unwieldy.

Good luck,

-Doug

Wow, I worked with Marik (the original developer)
 for many years on that project and the
Oubliette App also. Unfortunately, both projects had too much of a
dependency on Microsofts's RichEdit DLL Libraries and too many third party
components. I even wrote miniature versions of both that ran on PDA's,
that was before smartphones of course. I even spent a lot of time writing
specific RTF parsers to do things like insert tables and links into the
document. I even wrote a lot of Libraries to convert KeyNote/Oubliette
objects from/to Microsoft's.NET objects because Delphi (the language used
to compile KeyNote) used color and other primitive data types in an
entirely very different manner.

I was sad to see the project die, but in 2003, I had to sign a work
agreement with a Fortune 100 company (that was also a US Military Supplier)
to not do any encryption work with anyone outside the USA and both projects
used Blowfish and IDEA ciphers. Both were publicly published ciphers, but
that didn't matter to my employer. Marek resided in Eastern Europe. Other
than myself, Marek didn't really have much other help because back then
compilers were neither free or inexpensive. There was no GitHub and
SourceForge was relatively new and the project was not hosted there at the
time. Development progressed via ZIP compressed email attachments. LOL

I used to communicate with Marek via email several times a week but I
haven't communicated with him in more than a decade now.

I miss those times

[tw] TW5: Are the parser's pragma rules documented somewhere? Anywhere?

2017-04-13 Thread Douglas Counts
After spending several hours reading the sound docs
 and even playing around with
Tobias' enable-js  plug-in.

I noticed that I couldn't attach events because the TW parser is spitting
var target = document.getElementById("audio-div");

just after the get. So within the debugger, it looks like so:

var audio = document.get
ElementById("target");

Obviously, that isn't going to work. So adding the pragma

\rules except wikilink

fixed the problem. Which brings me to the question, where are these pragma
rules documented?

I even searched for the term except at tiddlywiki.com/dev/ and came up
empty. Is there a resource out there on these?

A how to article out there? Something? Anything?

Thank you guys or gals,

[tw] Re: Filter to select UPPERCASE titles

2017-04-05 Thread Douglas Counts
I left spaces out of my examples. So all caps with spaces is:

value="^[A-Z\s]+$"

If you will also accept ? or !, but only at the end, then do this:

value="^[A-Z\s]+[!?]*$"

If you had a tiddler titled "RELEASE 5.0.181-BETA", your current RegEx
would have captured that too.

"3" would also have been captured. Examples like these are why you want
to capture specifically what you are looking for.

[tw] Re: Filter to select UPPERCASE titles

2017-04-05 Thread Douglas Counts
Sorry to say, but your solution is faulty as you will get hits on *any*
title without a lowercase letter. Naming a Tiddler "???" for example will
also appear in your list.

You should use:

value="^[A-Z]+$"

if you wish to capture all cap titles that may also end with exclamation
points, do this:

value="^[A-Z]+[!]*$"

If you want all caps that may end with or without exclamation points or
question marks, do this:

value="^[A-Z]+[!?]*$"

If you want those plus titles that are all question marks or exclamation
points [like ??? or titles] do this:

(^[A-Z]+[!?]*$)|(^[!?]+$)

It is always better to capture what *you do want*, not to capture *everything
but* with a few exceptions. Otherwise, you open the door open to let in
things you hadn't thought of.

[tw] Re: How open new window directly when loading TW?

2017-04-04 Thread Douglas Counts
Looks like I was wrong as Chrome must track clicks somehow because when I
placed the window.open() code inside a DOMContentLoaded event listener it
didn't work. Also when using setTimer() to click a link, chrome said
"popup blocked", so that didn't work either.

Your manual mouse click must be required at some point to start the process
of opening a window. Chrome apparently does a good job of tracking all the
JavaScript initiated from a click.

I can use *setTimer()* to open the window at a later time, but it *has to
be initiated from within code started from a mouse click.*

[tw] Re: How open new window directly when loading TW?

2017-04-04 Thread Douglas Counts
You can use `window.open()` to open a new window, control its appearance,
turn off things like toolbars, or do just about anything else you would
like to do.

The trick is to *change* the window in some way such as removing the status
bar, setting a width, etc. Those can't be opened in a tab, thus forcing
the browser to override its default setting to open all new windows in a
tab.

```
window.open('http://www.google.com', '_blank',
'toolbar=0,location=0,menubar=0');
```

[tw] Re: [TW5] Applying Styles to list-filter results while avoiding the line wrap problem

2017-02-17 Thread Douglas Counts
Eric,

While Ton Gerner's advice worked great, I'm always looking to see what
other techniques work and why. So I gave your advice several failed
attempts and could not get a single attempt to work properly.

Adding a closing tag like you seem to suggest as shown below doesn't line
wrap either and the yellow background was not applied to the altered shadow
tiddlers either:

@@.my-class
<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]">
@@

Essentially, that left me with the same problem that I had initially.

This next attempt did show the list of shadows with one per but with no
yellow background applied to the altered shadow tiddlers:

@@.my-class
<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]">

@@

These next three attempts displayed some wrapping problems on some lines
but not on others:

@@.my-class
<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]"> <>
@@

and:

@@.my-class

<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]"> <>

@@

and this didn't work either:

@@.my-class

<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]"> <>

@@

For whatever reason, only Ton Gerner's suggestion appears to work properly.
 Am I missing something?

Thank you,

-Doug

[tw] [TW5] Applying Styles to list-filter results while avoiding the line wrap problem

2017-02-17 Thread Douglas Counts
Hey everyone,

I'm trying to apply a yellow background to all listed shadow tiddlers that
have been altered in the list.

This way I can quickly scroll down the very lengthy list of shadow tiddlers
and quickly discern which ones are defaults and which ones are not.

I can successfully display the shadow tiddlers in a list like so:

<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]"/>

And the altered shadow tiddlers have a slightly lighter black color which
is hard to quickly discern in such a lengthy list.

So, I decided to attempt to give the altered shadow tidders within the
list, a yellow background color to quickly set them apart from the others.

But if I do something like shown below, the listed shadows simply line wrap
and are not listed one per line. All the shadow tiddler titles are now
listed on a single line which is not desired. Although the yellow
highlight does successfully distinguish the altered shadow tiddlers now:

.my-class .tc-tiddlylink.tc-tiddlylink-resolves {
background-color: yellow;
}

@@.my-class
<$list filter="[all[shadows]sort[title]]"/>
@@

Anyone know how I can fix this line wrap problem?

Thanks,

-Doug

[tw] Re: TiddlerWidget - formulate what it does!

2017-02-17 Thread Douglas Counts
Descriptions like what PMario just included should be what one finds within
the introductory developer documentation, that is currently lacking in
useful examples and basic insights. Doing a Google search on most
TiddlyWiki Widgets normally leads you to a Google Groups post and not to
the formal documentation.

The documentation on Widgets , for example,
confusingly states, "Widgets are analogous to elements in an HTML document."
 *What?!?! * That sounds like widgets are simply nodes within an internally
used DOM domain which *conceptually* are not what widgets are. My current
understanding is that Widgets are better understood conceptually as
*commands* within TiddlyWiki's own Domain-specific language
.  I'm not saying
that these commands don't affect the browser's DOM or how tiddlers get
rendered, but that *conceptually*, they are not the same thing.

The Widgets documentation even goes on
further to confusing use the term "element widgets." But when you search
for the term "*element*" at either tiddlywiki.com
 or tiddlywiki.com/dev/ you will find no
reference to the term used to explain what a Widget even is. Much of the
documentation appears to be written from the perspective/context of being
intended to be used solely as mental reminders to that same author that
already possesses a comprehensive understanding of how TiddlyWiki functions
internally.

Personal perspective is not the best perspective/context in which to write
documentation to an audience that doesn't share that same deep
understanding. Personal mental reminders about a complicated subject are
great for one's own personal use and consumption, but place huge barriers
of entry to those new to TiddlyWiki development.

Perhaps the developer documentation should add a
*tiddlywiki.com/beginnerdev* documentation site that targets developers new
to TiddlyWiki development.

Thank you,

-Doug

Hey Thomas,

You mentioned that you are hosting the wiki on a SharePoint site.

So assuming that you have an IT Admin at that location, they may have
changed the file saving permissions for you.

Most problems hosting anything either on the Internet or an Intranet are
permissions related.

[tw] Re: How can I use the tm-new-tiddler action message to create a new Tiddler with both text and dynamic content?

2016-10-14 Thread Douglas Counts
Actually, I got this to work properly by moving the desired content
*surrounding
*the *now* macro actually *into *the *now *macro.

So my *text=* section appears as follows:

text=<> />

This gives me the desired content of:

* Line One
* Line Two
* Today is 14th, October 2016
* Line Four

{{PageFooter}}

where the date is generated immediately but the transclusion still works
properly.

Thanks for your suggestions while I worked this out.

[tw] Re: How can I use the tm-new-tiddler action message to create a new Tiddler with both text and dynamic content?

2016-10-13 Thread Douglas Counts
That fixes one of the problems and now it works but it appears that the
date would be constantly changing over time because the macro but not the
generated date is getting transferred to the New Tiddler.

I'm trying to have the date macro run upon New Tiddler creation where the
date, but not the macro itself, is contained within the New Tiddler.

The example below does this:

http://tiddlywiki.com/static/WidgetMessage%253A%2520tm-new-tiddler.html

But I can't get the date generated when there is other text contained
within the example. I was exploring using several lines to see if I could
get that to work because I want to be able to place header text and footer
text on the New Tiddler. I fixed the string wrapping problem like you
suggested but now the macro itself gets transferred to the New Tiddler's
content instead of the generated date.

Anyone know how to get the now macro to run on New Tiddler creation when
there is other text surrounding it? Specifically if that text contains
transclusion content like my *{{PageFooter}}* section. I would like to
know how to get the *now* macro to run immediately but not the PageFooter
transclusion which needs to have transclusion happen later upon viewing. I
want the footer to be dynamic but have the date generated just that one
time..

Any one have a suggestion?

Okay, the following works providing me with four bulleted list items

However if I try to add dynamic content, like generating the current date
as a bulleted list item, then the following code fails:

<$button>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-new-tiddler" title="This is newly created
tiddler" tags="OneTag [[Another Tag]]" text="* Line One
* Line Two
* <>
* Line Four

{{PageFooter}} "/>
New Tiddler

How do I do this without having a pre-existing template?

Thank you

[tw] Re: Export subset of tiddlers to document for non-tiddly people

2008-10-16 Thread Douglas

What I do is create the print style i want then print to PDF
(PDFCreater on windows) then email the thing round.

It's easy, works and keep the managers happy and they can still copy
and paste stuff out of it.
