Response
TWC met a need many people had and was then further developed to make it
even better.

TW5 was created as a NEW product that followed HTML 5 standards.
Because of that there was no migration from TWC it just needed to be NEW.
So anything that is HTML5 TW could be used to work with that as a standard,
no need to rework the product to make it work as you so often do.
Many amazing things have been created because of this fact that TWC
probably never would have been able to do effectively.

In regards to leaving Google Groups
I am not sure how new you are Josiah except for a long time people were
debating leaving Google Groups.

The general consensus was 'Why?' as it is 'Good Enough'
Then most of the developer went to a development platform, GitHub, to do
most of their work.
If you ask me this is where development is best served as you can easily
'fork' something and go in your own direction.
Or you can work with the people together.
Or BOTH.
And GitHub is designed for just such a project like TW5.
Developers also use the Google Group, TiddlyWiki Dev.

During the previous discussions of lets move from Google Groups everyone
was saying lets 'Build something Better and use that'
Meaning Eat Your Own Dog Food. TiddlyWiki is Google Groups.
This allows the most flexibility as no one relies on anyone else as you can
create your own thing for you, and share.
Do as much or as little as you want, when you want.

Since that time people have been working on an infrastructure for TW5 to do
just that except it takes time to create something like this.

So that is why I think most don't want to jump to any other platform as we
want to build our own or have our own.
We outgrew Google Groups, and we might outgrow
that too.
If we had our own platform then we don't have to rely on the tools others
create as we can create our own and we won't outgrow it.

[tw] Thank You Everyone

2017-01-12 Thread RichShumaker
I was using my newest creation today and I thought Man I Need to Thank
Everyone involved with TiddlyWiki.
I was installing linkimg by Tobias and it really got me thinking that
without this amazing community my project wouldn't exist.
Thanks Jeremy for creating this amazing tool.
Also big thanks to Jed and Astrid who really helped me out with the YouTube
Annotations
Thanks also to Tobias for the aforementioned linkimg.
Also to everyone else that adds to this group I know there are a LOT of you
out there, THANK YOU.

If you get a chance please check out my newest Dream Machine, Powered by
TiddlyWiki called 'GV101'(Videos NSFW due to cursing)

GV101 -
http://www.richshumaker.com/tw5/GV101.html

This TW5 uses very few add on's.
I used the YouTube Annotations, Powered by TiddlyWiki plug in, and I just
added to my local version linkimg today.

I hope everyone has an amazingly awesome day.

2017-01-07 Thread RichShumaker
I was able to drag and drop the plug in. THANK YOU.
I can add a plug in from the repository.
I can drag and drop a plug in.
JSON's for some reason just don't work for me and I have tried many
browsers on this computer and many TW5 files.

In regards to why I can't get JSON's to work I blame me.
I am sure there is something that I don't understand or that I am doing
incorrectly.

I will try to troubleshoot this except I am the only one that has ever
reported it that is why I think I am the actual issue.

If I find a solution to the JSON issue I will let you know and I will try
everything that people suggest as I would like to know what is up.
I was able to get hashtag2tag to work in my ecosystem, I use FF, I will try
to test on Chrome except I don't use Chrome day in day out.

Is this what you think?
Is TW5 a platform to you or just an app?

I look at other apps like Evernote, Twitter, Snapchat, Google Keep and I
know what they are.
I look at TW5 and it doesn't look like other apps, it looks more like a
system to build things with.

Thanks everyone for all the help you guys have provided me over the years.

Welcome Dmitry,

Doing something is better than doing nothing.

TW Classic had a spike in the user base when a version of TW was married
with Getting things Done, Monkey Getting Things Done if memory serves me
correctly.
TW5 has not really had that same spike even though there are many TW5
applications that are amazing.

I believe that building something that others use with bring more people
faster than anything else.

I look forward to seeing and hopefully helping with what you are creating
using TW5.

Thanks again Tobias and now Mark S.

The end goal was to have the inline #hashtags turn into tags for the
tiddler, however that might happen.
My thought was that when you hit the check mark and close a tiddler it
would 'automagically' convert #hashtags to Tiddler Tags.
I am not a coder so I can't say how it would really work or how it might
best work.

A long time ago I was looking at TW as a possible off the grid FB for
everyone and I wanted to grab features from other social platforms.
If you have seen an Instagram post it reads like a # party. Some are #this
#that #words #stuff it is #crazy.
It makes sense once you understand that the 'search' mechanism uses it and
without that special symbol then no one can discuss things together or even
find things.

Have an amazing holiday and thanks again everyone for discussing this again.

[tw] Question - Does a plug in exist to make Hash Tags for Inline #Tags in TW5?

2016-12-22 Thread RichShumaker
Is there a current plug in that would allow you to automagically turn
inline #Hashtags into Tags for that Tiddler?

Thanks everyone and have an amazing holiday.

[tw] Re: New ifttt channel maker

2016-08-12 Thread RichShumaker
Steve,

Cool and thanks.
I will see what I can do with that.
Right now my way is much more clunky. I aggregate in Google and then copy
and paste from Google to TiddlyWiki.
I use DO Note by the IFTTT team. DO Note allows me to create a quick note
that is sent to a Google Sheet.

My goal would be to create a note and when I get 'online' it would beam
back to my main TW.
Day to day I don't use TW for quick notes on the go.
Maybe I can explore using TW on the go as an option as well.

Another thing I was exploring for a while was node-RED
- http://nodered.org/ as an option.

Thanks again everyone.

[tw] TW5 - Roadblock ahead - Why I don't use TW and why I do

2016-03-14 Thread RichShumaker
Fist I want to say thanks to everyone in the community for all your help. I
LOVE TiddlyWiki especially TW5.

I am posting this to share my experience on why I don't use TW5 all day
everyday, even though I want too. Hopefully in sharing my experiences you guys
can help me grow and learn. Also this thread is designed to help you share
where, when, and why you use or don't use TW5.

I figured out that I don't use Tiddlywiki unless I am at a full computer as I
need the keyboard and decent processing speed, I dislike two finger typing for
TW.  2 fingers are too slow for the TiddlyWiki flow.  When I start to use
TiddlyWiki the ideas pop up faster than I can type. When I get in the TW flow
I can blink and 2 hours have gone by and so many ideas have formed, which is
awesomesauce.

My ?'s in previous years and all the help I received allowed me to get closer
to day to day use but fell short. The major one I listed above. The minor one
which isn't really minor is what I need and want TW5 to do, which seems to be
everything, heheh.

I use TW5 as a multimedia notebook that I call my Dream Machine, a machine to
help me reach my dreams. So I take pictues, shoot videos, record audio, oh and
write stuff and weave it altogether. Once I do what I do in TW the important
part starts which is sharing my stuff or keeping it for myself forever. TW5 is
amazing for sharing, room for improvement always exist except TW5 is awesome
for this. Archiving is also a strong suit for TW. This is why I started down
the TW path almost a decade ago. Still have all that data which I can't say is
true for the data from 2 decades ago.

So that's the post I am sure I could blather much more except that's not the
point. The point is to say why I do and don't use TW and hopefully this helps
me get over my roadblocks and helps others share and get over there's.

Re: [tw] Re: ReadOnly TiddlyWiki

2015-12-12 Thread RichShumaker
Thanks Felix that method makes sense to me. I need to explore implementing it
now. This method doesn't stop a 'save as' to get the entire TW5.

Is there an HTML dump inside TiddlyWiki? A Tiddlers 'export' method? Something
that converts all TW5 content pages to individual static HTML pages? I know
this bloats everything. Except it defeats the functionality of TW5. That is
both good and bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Thanks everyone for your help.

[tw] Re: Tonejs - for interest, integration? (internal brainstorm)

2015-12-09 Thread RichShumaker
Great Idea.
I would be interested to use Ableton somehow with TiddlyWiki, possibly with
MaxForLive using something like this, max4node

Maybe just TW5 to Max and then it could go anywhere Max
went.
I guess the bigger question for this would be is there a benefit for using
TW5 with Max?
Oh and I love the messy cable image.

[tw] Re: ReadOnly TiddlyWiki

2015-12-09 Thread RichShumaker
Hey Everyone,

I followed this thread to the end and over to GitHub. Read my own posts at
Github about RasPi and Node TW5, heheh. I laugh as I ran into huge
roadblocks to my deployment on the RasPi for the Node version of TW5. It
was more me not being able to get around or over the issues and I had a
solution that worked 'okay'. I currently use Bidix.php on the server for
HTML version of TW5, not very advanced. The cool thing is that I can spawn
TiddlyWiki's using this method very easily.

I am trying to 'present' or 'export' TiddlyWiki 5 HTML to either Static
HTML or view only TW5.
I have a feeling there is a simple button that I click to do this and I
apologize ahead of time, I did research and I could not find it.

I know this is not what Tony is trying to do as he is using Node and would
like something I call Tiddler Types inside Node.
I envision Tiddlers Types to include Readable, Editable, Viewable(I call it
the CHMOD 777 heheh).
I am not sure this is actually the 'way' you would do it or what you would
call them.

I was just building a website using HTML TW5 and I wondered how hard it is
to 'export to web' or 'lock for web'.
Since TW5 is a single downloadable file anyone can have your site by simply
downloading. Which is an amazing feature.
Is there an easy way to export the Tiddlers as individual HTML files to
allow you to create a 'website'?
Or is there a theme that would allow you to lock out the edit and
modification stuff?(Undoing this might be the hardest part as once you turn
it on how would you turn it off?)

For Classic TW I used what was called presentation mode TiddlyWiki for RSdC
Version 3, then lost my password, the site still works great even if I
can't update it.
http://www.richshumaker.com/index2.html#Welcome
This Classic TW would allow you to make updates using an Admin log in
screen. Then you could modify and save it once you logged in.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Hey everyone.
I have been using the corner banner that says Powered by TiddlyWiki for a

Unfortunately as Jeremy has pointed out it resembles the GitHub banner and
could easily cause confusion.

I need to change it and wondered if anyone has already done this so I could
use what they did.
I know I can change the color would that be acceptable or do you think it
will still cause confusion?
I am leaning toward it would cause confusion to keep it the way it is.

As an FYI I tried to WGET my TW5 and

Since it is a single HTML file there was no spidering for the images.

Oh and a download all images button would be cool, would it per chance
include canonical_uri's?

[tw] Re: InfiniTiddly (or, Rich Shumaker is evil) ;-)

2015-02-25 Thread RichShumaker
I do believe that canonical_uri loads only when you go to that tiddler.
So if you open one at a time then it loads that data one at a time.
What I don't know is if you then reload after you close the Tiddler or if
that is buffered or cached?
Again I know how it works just have not tested to see what goes on behind
the scenes.
So does anyone know the details of 'canonical_uri' in action?(how it loads,
what it loads, space it takes, time it takes, ect. ect. ect.)

In regards to TW Aggregator I don't think it it 'configurable' per se but
it does grab the Tags.
Here is the Github Repo Issues for that project
and it may have more
details.

I love the TW Aggregator for what it has done so far BUT I have not used it
yet as I am still setting things up.

[tw] Re: InfiniTiddly (or, Rich Shumaker is evil) ;-)

2015-02-25 Thread RichShumaker
When you use _canonical_uri you are including the entire X or Y.
So if it is an image you get the whole image.
If it is a website you get the website the way it is designed, some
dynamically load, TW HTML loads in the entirety.

So if you take 5 TW's and put them all inside a TW using _canonical_uri
then you load 6 TW's.
The TW Aggregator strips out the Tiddlers and puts them in a single TW file.
So yes it is larger but it is not double the size if you use 2 TW's or
triple if you use 3.

This is my understanding of how it all works.
Please correct me if I am wrong or if there is something I am missing.
Oh and I hope this helps.

I don't think there is anything you can do as you are not actually viewing
the real TW file you are viewing a "snapshot" of it when you use
"_canonical_uri".
I call it a snapshot but it is not an image of the file the real file is
there it is just you have no control over the data.
So you can't transculde data or create lists for the data unless you went
to the other location and did it there an then look at it through the lens
of the _canonical_uri.

It is like viewing a book through glass as you can't actually touch that
data directly from inside the TW you put it in.
That was my understanding at least and I will need to try this to confirm
but that is how I remember it when I was working with it.

This is why I liked the idea of the TW Aggregator as you actually get all
the data merged into a single TW file and that data can be manipulated
separately.

Re: [tw] Re: InfiniTiddly (or, Rich Shumaker is evil) ;-)

2015-02-24 Thread RichShumaker
I have been off the boards for a bit as you can tell because I am just now
responding to this ;)

Thanks Dave for the kind words as I do live backwards, #heheh, and yes
good-natured joke back at you.
I have always enjoyed the stuff you do so keep up the great work.

Now my TW of TW's is actually more of a
directory of TiddlyWiki's I have created.
My goal is to mash up 3 things on a server(I am using a RasPi right now)
1. TW of TiddlyWiki's - Not embedded or _canonical_uri as Andrew did in the
example you list but more like a glorified bookmark list.
2. Spawn the TW's from each other using BidiX store.php clone trick
.
3. Use Erwan's Aggregator
(Link
to Github ) for the files on the
Server to bring it all together and searchable.

If this mash up worked what would that allow you to do?
You could quickly create new TW's so you could have TW Templates for
different things(Notes, Math, Video, Photos, and more) then 'clone' them
easily and quickly.
They would automatically show up in your TW of TW's(this part is very
manual right now). You must copy and paste the URL right now no automagic.
Each new TW you create would then be combined automagically into a
searchable system every once in a while, TW Aggregator does it at a set
time so every 10 minutes as an example.
The TW Aggregator can scrape a local directory and do this.

I envision this being used by a teacher in a school, a hackerspace, or
someone like me that has a bunch of TW's.

Currently I am missing a way to automatically add the cloned TW back to the
TW of TW's directory.
The rest is already set up and I just need to implement and test it.

I love this topic.
I am trying to set this up for the Raspberry Pi and have not gotten very

The ecosystem is not really there, yet, to allow anyone(some can just not
everyone) to set up a multiuser TW Environment with different rights set
up(Admin, User, TW Specific rights).

Possible Solution #1 - I use the Raspberry Pi but any Server with PHP will
work
Here is my 'basic' Raspberry Pi TW server using BidiX store.php script

that has NO permissions beyond letting people add to HTML TW's, I use TW5
but TWC would work as well.
So you can't limit people on doing damage by accident to the HTML TW files.
Everyone can do things that overwrite each other as it is just a single
HTML file.
With that Said that doesn't mean if you set things up correctly that it
won't work great.

By correctly I mean,
1. Everyone has there own User Name and Log In that is set in the BidiX
file.
2. Everyone uses there Name when they create Tiddlers, there is a thread
that discusses this and I think this is it

.
3. Everyone has their own TW5 and then you share one. This will allow
people to create things in their own that may differ from each other then
you can 'manually' link them via drag and drop.
3a. Or you can use the TW Aggregator
to bring all the TW5's together
BUT it is really just creating one BIG TW file.
4. If you use Backup's and people overwrite each other you can get data
back. This is the biggest issue as my save will overwrite your save if you
are in the same TW5 HTML file at the same time.
4a. I think I remember seeing a Lock TW file discussion but I don't
remember which group that was in.

Possible Solution #2 - This solution is in progress
Now with all that said on the Node.js front there is a project working on
permissions for that at Github

.

Possible Solution #3 - Again this solution is in progress and Mario has
gotten it to work
I love what Chris has done with TiddlyWeb and he has been really helpful to
me.
I also understand what he is saying in regards to not having time.

I think the TiddlyWeb solution is the best one if we can find someone who
programs in Python and could take over the creation and maintenance of a
GitHub repository.
Wish I could say that it is me except I don't have enough code knowledge to
do it yet.
In regards to what Chris points out is the issue with TW5 could someone fix
that an offer the fix via a GitHub pull request(hopefully I am saying it
right)?

Hope some of this helps and keep us up to date on your progress.

TW is awesome and I think TW5 keeps the awesome going in so many ways.

I don't like saying TW5 is like this or that because it can be like

Not lots of software that is like that.

[tw] [TW5] Marketing Stuff - Tell People

2015-02-19 Thread RichShumaker
So telling people about TiddlyWiki 5 will help more people see it and use
it.
It is not rocket science but what is rocket science is 'who do we tell and
what do we tell them?'

I use TW5 in many ways every day as I am sure many of us do.
So knowing how we use it allows others to say 'Hey I want that' and then
they can grab it and start using it.
Also if we have great examples in an easy to see list then 'reviewers'
could see them fast.

I know that TW.Com is in the process of being overhauled and is often
discussed on what to do and how it should look.
My idea is less glamorous, what I call a TiddlyWiki of TiddlyWiki's, here
is mine .
A TW5 with Tiddlers for many examples with links to those TiddlyWiki's.
A Simple Review Style Site with Tiddlers for Many Different TW5's.
If we could implement a Voting or Review System then we could have the
first page in order of 'popularity' or 'most' used.
Or my favorite a random selection tool.

The second part of the question is 'Who do we Tell?'
Jeremy recommended reaching out to the sites you read which is perfect.
I would take that one step further, what sites do you you read so I and
others can also email, call and reach out to them.
If we coordinate an effort and the 'editors' get 20 emails, calls and carrier
pigeons

instead of 1 email maybe they will take it more seriously.

With all Marketing, Bugs become Features, Features that are Great go on
top, Features that are not as Great go on Bottom.
I have seen what people call a Bug become the companies biggest Feature as
no one else does that.
So my last question is 'what features of TW5 do you find to be the 'Best'
and 'Worst'?
This is not designed to start flame wars, I am asking so I can get some
BUZZ words to help hype TW5.

As always thanks everyone for all your help with everything.

[tw] [TW5] Entered an Instructables Contest

2015-02-19 Thread RichShumaker
Hey everyone I entered an Instructables Contest
with my Instructable
"TiddyWiki
5 on Raspberry Pi Server in 15 Minutes

"
Yes I am still working on the video and I know I can get this full install
done in under 10 minutes, would love to get it done in 5 but that might be
a dream.

The reason I am posting is that I was originally rejected by the contest
runners as they didn't see how TW5 on a RasPi would help someone in a Small
Space.

I wanted to get some ideas of how you use TW5 and how it reduces your
physical space and could help someone in a small space.
I know how it reduces my physical space and increases my 'abilities' in the
real world but I want to hear your experiences to add to mine.
I am considering changing my Introduction Page

to
include details of how this Small Set up gives you BIG RESULTS.
TW5 on the RasPi is an amazing synergy in a very tiny space.

Oh and of course the other reason for this post is I would love for people
to vote for me in the contest ;)
Thanks everyone for all your help.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Experimental "stacked view"

2015-02-15 Thread RichShumaker
I think this new view is pretty darn amazing.
I know this view is in the starting phases and not nearly worked out with
bugs and kinks so these questions are premature but I want to ask before I
forget what I was thinking.
Could you somehow have stacks of stacks on screen?
Or have a way to have a stack onscreen in one area of the screen instead of
the whole screen?
I was envisioning ways of sorting the Tiddlers using a card analogy by
moving between stacks.

This new view really lends itself to the zettelkasten concept.

That would be awesome.
Since you are using Google Drive I think that opens up a world of
possibilities as that is an export option.
So I think you could create a Google Drive something(not sure what it would
need to be and I know you could do a document, spreadsheet, presentation
inside Google Drive).
I just created a recipe to test this and I have a new Google Document being
created whenever a Time Tech Article is created.
If we can make the Google Document into a Tiddler that would then take the
Time Article and create it as a Tiddler and it would be in my TiddlyWiki?
I put the question mark as I was not sure if what I said was possible or
not.

If we can create a methodology for this then some 'crazy' stuff could be
Tiddlerized automatically.
I personally think a Taylor Swift Twitter Feed TiddlyWiki would be keen,
#heheh!!!(I almost just fell on the floor lol)

Thanks for your help with this.

On a side note how could we implement IFTTT via something that exists in

IFTTT is a closed system so I don't think we can add TiddlyWiki Tiddlers
directly as an option.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Getting started

2015-02-03 Thread RichShumaker
This question spawned a different question but I want to put it here as
this topic thread fits it very well.
HTML TW5 is what this thread is about.
The usage case of sending someone data that is read only got me thinking
about Node.js TW5.
Can you render a single Tiddler as a TW5 to allow someone to get just the
information you want them too?
So all of your plug in's and themes would be in tact but you would only
render a Single Tiddler or a few Tiddlers(Like Tiddlers of Tiddlers so you
don't have missing links)?

I know this is well beyond the scope of this thread and probably should go
to TW Dev but I am asking it here as this question and thread lend itself
to this.

I also know people have been using Google to put the TW5 on, except same
issue as above once you give the link they get the whole TW5 file not just
what you want.

Thank you very much for posting your question.

[tw] Re: Register for updates + lastModified date

2015-02-03 Thread RichShumaker
One realtime option would be Twitter.
I just tweeted to Jeremy to find out if he has a #hashtag he uses for
releases.

If he does then you could follow him and wait for the release information.
Or if you want to get fancy you could create an IFTTT(IF This Then That) or
similar alarm.

So if Jeremy uses a special #hashtag for the release then you could get an
SMS message to your phone as an example.
Not sure IFTTT could double filter so ONLY from Jeremy(@Jermolene) and ONLY
this special TAG.
That way you could avoid getting SPAM if others Glom on the #hashtag that
gets used.

It would be helpful to use #hashtags for stuff in the TiddlyWikiVerse.
Do you guys have Tags you use?
I typically will use #TiddlyWiki except I don't see a lot of others using
that, so is there another one like #TW5 or #TiddlyWiki5?

If(I should say when) you read this Tobias, Is there a way to get a weekly
Tobias Update?
Something that lists all your new stuff from the last week across your TW5
collection?

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Plugin twCards revisited

2015-02-03 Thread RichShumaker
It's funny you mention personal sites Jed as I was thinking that the TW
aggregator(great job Erwan) would be great for creating a loose social
network.

So we all have 'TW Social' Sites and then someone has an aggregator running
for them.
What would be interesting is for the TW Aggregator to have a way to ask to
be added to the list that is more 'automated'.
Not sure how that could be done with the TW architecture so is is just a
pie in the sky type idea.

I see the federated idea as being able to create 'individual' social
networks.
So instead of subscribing to groups inside a bigger system.
The group would create a TW Aggregator of sorts and then you subscribe to
it and it is not a centralized system per se.
So decentralized Social Networks.

[tw] Re: Invitation to TiddlyPip: an Apple App Store experiment

2015-01-30 Thread RichShumaker
Side note / disclaimer I already own TWEdit
and I would pay
for a version by you that is TW5 based.
I also own (it is free) As Noted which has roots in
TW.
Most of my efforts are 'not for profit' endeavors as that is the charter on
Khan, TED, VI Hart, and I am thinking about making my content on Contact
Juggling open source as well.
So those options would be silly as you couldn't monetize them, or I don't
think you can.

I think that having a 'free' version of TW5 by you(Jeremy the creator of
TW) and then 'upgrades(in app purchases)' to do different things like a GTD
version could definitely work.
As I stated I would buy your App as just TW5 so if you make it I will buy
it, unless you go crazy on price
, originally the
linked app was $999.

I think this is a very viable business model and if I can come up with more
'ideas' that could be monetized I will let you know.
Also have you thought about using this idea as a crowd sourced funded
project?

I wish I could claim or take credit for Community Search(it's awesome),
that was Erwan More and he has his code on Github

I think it would be cool just to have a community search box, like the

So I added that as an issue to Erwan's Github and I will try to make it in
the next few days myself by hacking the code.

Erwan has not requested we limit usage but he should definitely speak for

I agree with Mario SVG is excellent for TiddlyWiki buttons and it makes
your icons usable across platforms(phones, tablets, traditional computers).

I have just started with SVG and found Tobias added the Google SVG editor
to his TidlyWiki as a Tiddler , very
awesome and convenient.
If I had more experience making SVG's I would take a stab at the Icons but
alas I am too much of an SVG NOOB.

Thank you very much for creating this "Toolbar" as I think it makes it
faster and easier for someone just starting out.
I also really like the Editor TAB in the Preview Window to give you help on
things you might not know how to do.
So even if you are experienced with the Tiddlers and *Bullet Points you
can still get help when needed for things you might not use a lot.
Totally unrelated I find myself using the Community Search
a
lot these days and it has been very helpful.

[tw] Re: Is it possible to get a list of unique values of a single field?

2015-01-23 Thread RichShumaker
First let me say this is what I am working on so others will need to help
out.
I don't know completely how to do it but I can give you some ideas.

There are two parts from what I can tell,
1. Filters to get you what you want, I have been using the Advanced Search
to make sure my filter works right.
2. List with that filter inside

Here is Tobias's Page that helped me earlier today
on Filters.
>From there I wrapped it in {Triple Brackets }

So this will give you a list of Tags

{}

you can also add a sort to that

{} - No ! means Normal Order

Here is where I get stuck as I am not sure how to list all the items in a

I apologize if you knew all this already and I hope it helps at least a

I have a feeling that there is another better way to do this so I look

[tw] [TW5] TED Talks TW - Learning Stuff by building stuff

2015-01-23 Thread RichShumaker
I know that Tobias is working on the Cue Player Plug In and I am excited to
test it as he builds it.

Until then I found an old TWC that had a spreadsheet of TED Talks and I
decided to see what I could build.
Since I had lots of help on the Hangouts from everyone I tried to not reuse
much if I didn't have too so I could learn.
I took the Spreadsheet and turned it into a TW5 that way I could learn how
to do things better from scratch again.
I have the shell built and I need to add a lot of stuff BUT I wanted to
share and find out what everyone thinks so far.

I know I want to add better searching and list creation on the fly.
As well as more of the features that TED allows you to change.
Again I am learning so any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here is the Link to the TED Talks TW
that I have started.
Feel free to hack it like crazy.

Oh and I guess the first question is how do I have the Tiddler start with a
video in it?
Right now it has an error to start but, it works once you use the drop down.

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions.

[tw] Re: Trouble importing plugins

2015-01-22 Thread RichShumaker
I was able to get it to work and I understand you are on Node.js
I can't screen cast my node set up as it is on my RasPi and I don't have an
HDMI recorder.

You need to set the TYPE to Markup for Markup to have Markup work, d'oh!!!
So I copied all 5 Tiddlers by hand, the 4 shadow Tiddlers and the Plug in
itself.
Once I did that 'Markup' shows up as an option and you change your Tiddler
to that and now Mark up works.

If you need a video I can redo this into an empty.html and I will confirm
it works.

Scratch That my TW already had these 4 Tiddlers

This plugin contains the following shadow tiddlers:

$:/config/markdown/dialect
$:/language/Docs/Types/text/x-markdown
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/markdown/markdown.js
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/markdown/wrapper.js

I am trying to see how to manually input the plug in into a Tiddler and
have it work.
If you can create and save a Tiddler and copying and pasting the data works
then it should work.

[tw] Re: Trouble importing plugins

2015-01-22 Thread RichShumaker
Can you create Tiddlers and are they saved?

It seems there are 4 things required for the whole plug in
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/markdown

This plugin contains the following shadow tiddlers:

$:/config/markdown/dialect
$:/language/Docs/Types/text/x-markdown
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/markdown/markdown.js
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/markdown/wrapper.js

Have you tried to drag and drop each part of the plug in as it is possible
that it is choking on trying to get all 4 parts across?(this is a guess)
I tried to hand copy the 4 plug ins but I don't know how to create a shadow
tiddler and after I was done it didn't work.
I created a video of how to do it by hand to show you and help but since it
didn't work for me not a lot of help for you.
If I can figure out how to make it work by hand copying I will post the
video on how to do it.

Hope this helps.

Did a rudamentary search for web3d javascript and this came back
<http://threejs.org/>, three.js
three.js seems pretty cool but seems to be a lot for TiddlyWiki to take on
and I don't know if there would be any advantages.

It would be cool if you could create Tiddlers that were 3d objects and
scene Tiddlers and then use three.js to combine the Tiddlers easily.

I will keep my eyes out for more stuff that might add to TW5.

2015-01-21 Thread RichShumaker
Thanks BJ for the question I used a Special Tag so I knew what all the
Tiddlers were, I do not need to change that.
Thanks again Tobias for all your help, I hit one minor snag and I don't
know if your code will be able to overcome it.

I did more testing last night and I think I have to use JSON because the
embedded file is not deleted when you switch to "_canonical_uri".
I found it funny as I am doing this to reduce the bloat of my TW and it
didn't work the way I thought.
I thought once I put in the "_canonical_uri" the embedded data would go
away and I was wrong.
I should ask you Tobias have you tested with an embedded image and does the
image data stay or is it deleted?

Since I hit that snag I am building a JSON based on a tiddler I exported
and it is going pretty smooth.
Once I can figure out what I am doing wrong on the JSON import I should be
good to go.

I will be trying out your solution shortly Tobias and thanks to everyone
for the help.

[tw] [TW5] Changing an Image from Embedded to _canonical_uri

2015-01-20 Thread RichShumaker
I have a bunch of JPEG's that I put directly into my TW5 before I saw the
"_canonical_uri" light.
I have all the images in the same place and I can easily change each by
hand to "_canonical_uri", it just takes time, lots of time.

I wanted to know if there is an easier way to 'change' an Embedded Jpeg to
"_canonical_uri".

Here is what I have,
I have created a Special Tag for all the Jpegs and I need to have a
'field name' of '_canonical_uri' with the file location added to the 'field
value'.
Ex.
The Tiddler is named 'Picture.jpg' then the file location is
images/Picture.jpg.
So I need to add the *field name* '_canonical_uri' with *field value*
'images/TiddlerName'.

Half way through I figured out that probably the best way to do this is to
massage the data using JSON.
Arg now I need to figure that out.

Okay so if anyone has a different way to do this trick let me know.
If you have any questions about what I am trying to do let me know.

Thanks again everyone for all the help.

There are a variety of 3D viewing options coming on board soon.
But how do you view data in 3D?
Since TW is based on the web browser, and web browsers are adding and have
3D options how can that be leveraged by TiddlyWiki?
Has it been leveraged yet? A lot of times I ask a question and find out

2015-01-16 Thread RichShumaker
Thanks Mario for all your work that you have done, it is really amazing
everything you did and do with the Hangouts and I appreciate it.
Like I said early on I am glad I did not find what you did until I was knee
deep as I would not have started this, and I have learned a lot from
creating it.

8 hours seriously, can I say "Not it" and let the next person take it,
#heheh.
Oh and I was hoping someone besides you might try the tools out and see
what they might be able to do.
So if anyone reads this, and wants to try things out, start at the low
numbers of the missing Tiddlers, as Mario is starting at the high ones :)

I still have to get your first 20 done and that may take a bit.
As an FYI, I have your Hang_Out versions unedited in Tiddlers, then I have
to strip " and make them ' to work with the Macros I am using.
So there is duplication of data in my system. I may turn your Tiddlers
into Shadow Tiddlers(?) so they are removed from the search cue to avoid
doubling up.
Oh and that would be after I finish them all.

[tw] Re: [TW5]Choosing Tags

2015-01-16 Thread RichShumaker
d'oh!!! Thanks Birthe, forgot I could just open a Tiddler in the
Pre-Release and try it.
So I did and BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE it works.
This is exactly the fix for the issue I was discussing and I like the
implementation.
There is an exact match for the TAGs separated by a line with 'fuzzy links'
below the line.
fuzzy links are Tiddlers or other things that have matches but NOT TAGS.
So now I will get a small Alphabetical list at the top for exact tag
matches and the junk I get now will be below the line.

Also that is a great tip Tobias about trying things out and Tagging them
for removal later.

Thanks again everyone.

Similar but much more than I was saying.
I just want the Tag list to show Tags with names I type in.
Issue #1223 is a much larger one than what I describe.

I want the Tags I have created to follow the alphabet.
So I type A I get Tags starting with A.
Type matching A could be okay so I type A and anything with a Capital A in
the Tag name shows up.

Right now I get stuff inside stuff, so it is searching the Tags Field of
all the Tiddlers and pulling them as well.
So if I tag a Tiddler called 'Something' with A then when I type in A in
the Tag field 'Something' Tiddler shows up.
I have not tested to see if 'Something' has to be a tag itself in order to
show up on the list, it probably does.
BUT
A and Something are 2 different letters of the alphabet so it is
"corn"fusing.
In fact Capital and lowercase A, a, don't even appear in the Tag Something
so why would it even show up in any case.

[tw] [TW5]Choosing Tags

2015-01-15 Thread RichShumaker
I have been searching and I have found some stuff but I don't think it is
what I need.
So I decided to ask here before sanity slips away.

On the Google Hangouts TW5 Page I am working on.
When I use the Tags field and start typing, I invariably get Tags of Tags
meaning anything Tiddler with the Tag I am looking for.
So I type "Li" I get all the "hangouts"(they use this Tag) when in reality
H and L have nothing to do with each other.
Is there a way to change the Tag search to be strict based on what is typed.

That way if I type Li then only tags with Li show up?
For any solution that exists, would this be a case sensitive search so li
would not work on Li?

Thank you very much for your help.

Re: [tw] [TW5] Idea for a Hangouts TiddlyWiki

2015-01-15 Thread RichShumaker
Getting back on track now that the error is resolved.
The site is updated with new data from quite a few of Mario's Pages.

I am closing in on having all the data moved over only 20 more to go,
#heheh.

Once I have the 20 moved over I will start to cut down the missing tiddlers.
Also creating new cross links between the world and the Hangouts TW.

There are 6 Hangouts

that are missing Detailed Logs.
If you want to help out check the site link above and create a log for one
of them.
I have put Jed's YouTube Video Annotations tool using Astrid's YouTube
Macro into the Missing Tiddler to make it easier.
PM me or post here if you create a detailed log so I can grab the data and
add it in.

Thanks to Mario and Tobias as well as Jed Carty and definitely Astrid.

Thanks Mat for the links and no I am not in Brussels right now.
That is some cool stuff and it leads back around to
indiewebcamp

I wanted to experiment on this at a very basic user level.
So I created this Website
, if anyone want to try,
download a copy, and put it on the web in a place we can all see it.
Update the things that are specific to me.
Typically you would drag and drop a post of interest into your TW5 and then
create a 'New Here' Tiddler so it links back, hence threaded.
So once you set it up, create a Post, reply to my Post, Experiment.

If you do join the experiment please Post here your site address so we can
all check it out.
This is an experiment to see how things work and what works and what
doesn't.
Meaning don't put vital data that you might need later without making a
second copy somewhere as the data set might be deleted in the future.

I need to read up on the TWaggregator and get that set up to pull all sites.

I guess here is a basic test but I don't know how useful it would be.
Let me know your thoughts,

You or I or someone creates a 'Tiddler' lets call it 'Forum Post #1'
Then the other person drags and drops it into their TW5(some type of URL
link between is created) and uses the New Here button(Or some method for
tagging) and Replies.
During the day each person can reply back and forth and anyone can also add
to the discussion on there own site.

To unify everyone at the end of the day(time could be more often) the
TWAggregator could look at our 'community TW's' that we each have and have
some basic TW functions to show all the threads with replies.
If you want you can then drag from the TW Aggregator somehow and continue
the discussion on your own TW.

Sound like a test that makes sense or just a waste of time?

So if you are able to play audio streams, audio podcasts, YouTube Videos,

If it can do all that stuff then AnyPlayer or AllPlayer or maybe just

Wow there is a lot here.
Nick if and when you read this you may want to start some of these

everyone makes it to the hangouts.

I am not sure if this helps but under the Control Panel is an Appearance
TAB that allows you to change colors around.
There is also an editor for the color palette.
Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

> I think it is very important to have an obvious manner to traverse a
> tiddler in an easily predetermined order, even if this order is simply

> current tiddler. Think of email, e.g.

The way I have been doing this is using 'New Here' when I do things
manually.
So Tiddler #1 is created.
I then hit 'New Here' and create Tiddler #2 which is now TAG'd [[Tiddler
#1]]
Once Finished I then hit 'New Here' on Tiddler #2 and now Tiddler #3 is
Tag'd Tiddler #2
The only issue with this method is that now Tiddler #1 and #3 have no
direct link even though they may need to be.
So I will also (sometimes) create a 'Subject' Tag that I use across all 3
Tiddlers so they are all linked by a common 'Subject' TAG and not a stitch
to a stitch to a stitch.

There should be an easy way to sort the tiddlers (if there is not already)
> and sort their tags into a desired order. By "easy" I mean that this basic
> functionality should be part of the GUI, as Find is now.

I think Tobias has this built into his TB5
if you are discussing what I
think you are.
His site is really well laid out as he has the sections right up front and
when you click on them you can see all the TAGs easily.
I am not sure if there is an 'easy' way to make this part of the core like
'Search' and 'Advanced Search'.
TiddlyWiki allows you to create what you want rather 'easily' so it tries
not to build in too many 'features' that may or may not be used.
If you need a 'feature' then you can add it or make it.

Actually I don't know the data set size as I could not find any buttons to
download all posts.
If I had I am sure I would have choked on my drink when I saw it.
That was also part of the reason I brought this up is 'How' do we get the
data?
I did some preliminary research and found this page from Google
, not
sure if that helps though.

In regards to the size of the content,
In Classic TW you could create several broken up TW and bring them together
in one.
So I guess that is another question at what point is a TW dataset too big
for a single HTML file and can TW5 do that same Classic Trick of creating
many small TW5's that feed a main TW5?
I know with TW on Node.js and TiddlyWeb the data set will be more of a
server issue than a file limitation / browser issue.

The point is getting ready and working on what we can so we are prepared
when we have something 'federated'.
It also helps get things started for federated TW by looking at a problem
that would directly use it.
Or better said as a question, How do we deal with Nested Multiperson
discussions?
Take away the federation for a second, I am talking about simply inside a
TW5, how would you show a forum post?
Is there a better way to handle 'threaded' material than what we already
have the ability to do?

You brought up a point I was unaware of that there is no server side
node.js search, then how do you search with node.js TW then?

Your point is very valid so lets inverse this and make it like all things
TW just a single Tiddler.
All our posts are Tiddlers technically.
Do TW5 Tiddlers currently have enough details to allow it to be used as a
Single Forum Post?
Can you tell from the Tiddler all the details you can tell from a simple
'Hello' post on the google groups here?
What is missing, what is incomplete, what could be easier or better?

Here is an exercise and what got me to start thinking about this issue in
the first place.
Take one small thread(3 - 5 posts) how can we work with that single issue
data set inside TW5?

This post was and is to explore exactly where our issues are besides
'federation' and to start plugging the gaps we can.
I saw the gaps with
1. Getting the data and figuring out how to work with it.
1a. There might be some magic plug in that would allow us to view google
group data inside TW for all I know.
2. How to view and work with this data inside TW5.

Thanks Tobias and Astrid for taking the time to discuss this and for all
your help as well.

2015-01-12 Thread RichShumaker
I was researching me and I read something I wrote a long time ago.
It is actually very relevant now as we are discussing eating our own dog
food methods for this forum.

I would think one of the first steps would be to download all the TW Google
Group Data(and Dev Data), Parse It, and Inject it into a TW5.
Anyone have any clues on how to even start to do something like this?

Ideally we could start our own TW5 "forum thing" in the future with all the
data from the past and a method to show only TW5 or just TWC data.

Let me know what you guys think and as always thank you for your help.

Build idea - Button inside TW for playing YouTube video that you assign to

Add a drum loop and you have the next big YouTube World Sensation, Autotune

That is awesome Chris and I need to get my TiddlyWeb working now as that is
the single feature I have wanted the most. A way to save data locally and
just create a link to it.

THANK YOU TOBIAS

I have been hacking up the YouTube plug in and WOW.
I know it will get better, I am just amazed at how good it is already.
I agree with Astrid as well that this is a great lesson on how to build TW5
Stuff.

So one question came up while I was hacking things up.
I created a 6 times winning video
, because I could.
Here's the question, Can multiple video's appear in a single Tiddler using
your YouTube stuff?
I tried but couldn't figure it out and will try some more today as it was
fun to use and create.

This was not intended to be a 'thing' but I could do it so I did.
The end concept was to create a YouTube Sampler, again because I could and
no other real reason.

Since you can start a video and stop a video at specific points you can
create samples.
I thought of this as I saw a Ted Talk where they took Captain Kirk's
dialogue and cut it up and used it as samples to rebuild phrases and
things, pretty cool stuff.

Thanks again Tobias and Jed and Astrid and everyone in the community.

Re: [tw] [TW5] Idea for a Hangouts TiddlyWiki

2015-01-11 Thread RichShumaker
Thanks Jeremy.

So I have used the upgrade tool and the issue continued.
I have put the file on Google Drive and it worked!!!
So I have sent an issue to my hosting provider to see if they can figure
out anything.
I could have a weird server side interaction or who knows at this point.

It is very weird.
Now I really need the emoticon for jumping up and down in a huff like I am
7.

Re: [tw] [TW5] Idea for a Hangouts TiddlyWiki

2015-01-11 Thread RichShumaker
So what is the emoticon for jumping up and down in place like I am seven?
I know I am missing something simple at this point but I don't know what
that simple thing is.
So here is where I am at and it is a weird place to be at.
If you go to the main page for all my TW's

All pages including empty5-1-5 are mess up except
http://www.richshumaker.com/tw5/TW-Learning-Level1.html
and
http://www.richshumaker.com/tw5/TW-Learning-Level1old.htm
Which is funny as those are the two I am wanting to redo the most, #heheh.

I tried to ZIP and upload and decompress on the server to avoid potential
issues being injected during upload.
Same issue Java Box of Doom.

I did what BJ suggested and compared the files from the server to the local
file and they are identical.
The file works locally but not on the server.

I just uploaded a fresh new copy of TW5
(5.1.7), same
issue, red box of doom.
So that is empty version of 5.1.5 and 5.1.7 that both are showing a problem
on the server.

I have not been able to do what Tobias asked as I was not sure exactly what
to remove when I was in the text editor.
Loved looking at TW5 in the Text editor, very cool. I will be doing that
more.

So I guess I could try to upload this file to a shared space to see if the
issue exists but many have said they see the issue locally even though I
don't.
The thing I find really weird is that not ALL of the files are broken which
would at least be consistent.

I am near my wits end so any suggestions are welcomed and thanks again
everyone for your help.

Re: [tw] [TW5] Idea for a Hangouts TiddlyWiki

2015-01-11 Thread RichShumaker
Thanks BJ will do that now as that makes perfect sense.

I used the TW5 upgrade tool on my local Hangout TW and stripped out almost
all the macros I thought could have caused it.
Uploaded and still same issue. So maybe it is getting corrupted on upload.
Will try to zip and decompress on the server to see if that fixes it.

What is weird is I didn't have this issue before so I am confounded on what
I did or changed.

[tw] Re: Tiddlyspot - Gallery for TW5

2015-01-10 Thread RichShumaker
I love this idea and would love to see some basic check box type stuff.

You want 'FancyFonts' Check
You want 'Calendars' Check
You want 'CrazyTalk' Nope

Or maybe better than that with the new baked in plug in methodology you
simply drag and drop to your new TW5.
So it would be 3 parts I think(maybe 4)
Part 1 - Download Empty TW5
Part 2 - Drag and Drop the Stuff you want to use like 'FancyFonts' and
'Calendars' to your New Empty TW5
Part 3 - Enjoy
Part 4 - (Optional) Add Content from Providers - So I package all the TW
Hangout Stuff I do into one package
Part 4 is interesting because you could have different fields of study this
way that are easily draggable to your TW5.
You need to learn Chemistry, then download Chemistry 101 for TW including
Periodic Tables and Interactive Chemical Equations.

The more I think about it I like a single page with drag and drop ability
for each "Things"
Not sure of the types of "Things" so I just lumped them all together.

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] YoutubePlugin (tentative)

2015-01-10 Thread RichShumaker
I get it now.
Not sure why it is doing this but I get what it is doing now.

The Tiddlers of just sections do indeed play from a start point to an end
point, the first time.
On the hangouts I built with Astrid and Jed's help, when it works(silly
javascript error), it shows brackets for the start to stop on the Tiddlers.

On your videos the start point on all videos is actually 00:00:00 and you
are "Jumping Playback" to specific point.
If you play a Tiddler once it starts at the correct spot and stops
correctly if you hit the Replay button it starts at 00:00:00.

Hope that makes sense and helps as well.
