Ahhh Dalton, now I feel young as I like FB. Although, it's the pictures of my
grandchildren and all the positive comments that I like the most! Not too old
for FB.

Re: [TMIC] Facebook

2013-01-25 Thread Pat Voorheis
It could be the medications. I blamed mine on the steroids. I thought they
fried my brain. Although I was an avid reader before TM, it was four months
before I could pick up a book. Like Cindy I had to reread over and over to
comprehend the story. Reading TM Forum, writing to tmic, working puzzles and
reading my Bible have brought me a long way. However, I'm slow and I blame it
on meds.

Hey everybody; I've done this site on and off since the beginning. I do like
the facebook thing. I like the quick banter when I'm going nuts for social
stimulation. I've just taken a temporary job as a school nurse. They needed
someone fast and they agreed to try and accomodate me, but it is only 6 weeks.
I'm about to collapse before the end of the day. I do need the money because
my disability insurance has fought tooth and toenail to not pay. When I walk
in the halls, my feet spasm, my legs get charlie horses all night, and in the
am, I have a heck of a time with the stairs. But, when it's all said and done,
I really love this job. It is so exhilirating working with these kids. Pam

Hi Dalton,

The first thing is to file as soon as possible… I
believe they make you wait five months from the time you file before actually
making
any payment to you.

Here's two websites for Social Security\Disability -
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/index.htm
 - and - http://www.ultimatedisabilityguide.com/

On the first site, the form to fill out requests the last 15 years of
employment
BEFORE you became disabled.

Also, check these websites: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Disinissues/
 and  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/offtopicplace/
They have a lot of answers for SSDI and LTD.

Another site:
http://www.disabilityhelpsite.com/

Here's one that outlines acceptable disabilities
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/AdultListings.htm
Usually TM falls under the Neurological disability.

Just remember… most initial requests for SS are
denied. You must stay on top of them and keep applying. And make sure your
physician writes a very detailed description of your condition and limitations.

When I filled out my portion of the form, I included every
single affected task – no matter how seemingly insignificant…
bathing/showering (including temperature sensation loss in lower body),
toileting (including chronic constipation due to medications and loss of bladder
bowel muscle control), holding a hair dryer to dry my hair, walking up
and down the stairs in my home, making meals, dusting/vacuuming, changing bed
sheets, anything requiring manual dexterity/finger function – my fingers
are now somewhat clawed, weak and not able to write or keyboard/mouse normally;
I have difficulty pulling zippers; blowing my nose is next to impossible;
laundry
is difficult (pulling wet clothes out of washer), standing at sink to do dishes
(difficulty holding wiping them). I have balance issues due to major
weakness in left leg, I can no longer run, jump or even walk swiftly
fatigue easily after any exertion and must usually lay down to recover. Take a
couple days to make sure your list covers everything.

Good luck with it.

Hi John,

Since my TM struck at C7 and I have remained mobile, though still with
adverse affects, I find the easiest way for others to understand is to tell
them TM is like a semi-recoverable form of MS. Most everyone knows what MS
is and how it affects the body. It at least gives them a reference point.
Not everyone wants to hear all the individual little details, so I only add
that my hands and leg were afflicted along with a loss of temperature
sensation below the chest and the banding around the torso. That's enough
to satisfy their curiosity, but not too much to lose them entirely.

I am totally with you Patti. After completing my rehab (one month), I
returned to work part-time. I lasted two and a half months. At the end of
each day, I hurt so bad I couldn't do anything - even cook dinner. And it
took the entire weekend to recuperate from the exhaustion in order to start
the next week. That meant turning down almost every offer to do anything
fun. I finally gave in and went out on permanent disability.

I so miss the social interaction afforded by working, but I don't miss the
forced exertion. To keep from becoming almost a hermit confined to the house
- which is so easy to do when you don't work - I make a point of
'scheduling' things to go out and do during the week - even if it's just to
grab a bite to eat for lunch or check out a new sale. After 34 years of
working (31 for the same company), it was very hard to let go of the people
contacts. it's so easy at work to be 'involved' in co-workers lives just
thru office conversation. It's not 'convenient' for them after you're gone.
I try to stay in occasional e-mail contact with several of them, but it's
just not the same.

TM definitely adversely affects your personal life as well as your physical
one. I think that's why we feel so connected to each other on this site - we
all sympathize and appreciate each other's losses as we've all walked in
each other's shoes where TM is concerned. Loss of health, loss of jobs, loss
of friends, loss of dignity. It tears away at one's resolve, but this site
affords us a non-aggressive format for social contact (albeit thru cyber
space), appreciation and validation of aches, pains and fears, and a way to
gain knowledge about our condition thru the experiences of others.

I thank everyone on this site for helping me get thru the worst of my times
and teaching me how to accept and move on with what I do have. You're all an
inspiration!

Robert you are much braver than I could ever be. Just the thought of
heights makes me sick to my stomach.

I did work part-time before TM and after about 7 months I was able to go
make to my part-time job. It was exhausting at times but I enjoyed the
people contact. Last year we moved about 120 miles away to be near my
daughter and her family for my health. I didn't seek work after we moved.
I don't miss working but do miss the people contact.

Pam

Hi Dalton,

The first thing is to file as soon as possible. I believe they make you wait
five months from the time you file before actually making any payment to
you.

Here's two websites for Social Security\Disability -
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/index.htm - and -
http://www.ultimatedisabilityguide.com/

On the first site, the form to fill out requests the last 15 years of
employment BEFORE you became disabled.

Also, check these websites: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Disinissues/ and
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/offtopicplace/ They have a lot of answers
for SSDI and LTD.

Another site:

http://www.disabilityhelpsite.com/

Here's one that outlines acceptable disabilities
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/AdultListings.htm
Usually TM falls under the Neurological disability.

Just remember. most initial requests for SS are denied. You must stay on top
of them and keep applying. And make sure your physician writes a very
detailed description of your condition and limitations.

When I filled out my portion of the form, I included every single affected
task - no matter how seemingly insignificant. bathing/showering (including
temperature sensation loss in lower body), toileting (including chronic
constipation due to medications and loss of bladder bowel muscle control),
holding a hair dryer to dry my hair, walking up and down the stairs in my
home, making meals, dusting/vacuuming, changing bed sheets, anything
requiring manual dexterity/finger function - my fingers are now somewhat
clawed, weak and not able to write or keyboard/mouse normally; I have
difficulty pulling zippers; blowing my nose is next to impossible; laundry
is difficult (pulling wet clothes out of washer), standing at sink to do
dishes (difficulty holding wiping them). I have balance issues due to
major weakness in left leg, I can no longer run, jump or even walk swiftly
fatigue easily after any exertion and must usually lay down to recover. Take
a couple days to make sure your list covers everything.

Good luck with it.

Robert you are much braver than I could ever be. Just the thought of heights
makes me sick to my stomach.

I did work part-time before TM and after about 7 months I was able to go make
to my part-time job. It was exhausting at times but I enjoyed the people
contact. Last year we moved about 120 miles away to be near my daughter and
her family for my health. I didn't seek work after we moved. I don't miss
working but do miss the people contact.

2009-10-20 Thread kevin weilacher

Got to admit, I'm a FaceBook'er also...been on there for awhile. I belong to
quite a few different groups of interest but not so many games. The only one
I'm active in any more is YoVille. I don't know why but I like buying and
rearranging the stuff in my houses. I was on a couple of the farm games but my
attention level is so short that I can't stay focused on these things. I bounce
around between so many things during the day that I'm surprised I get much of
anything done.
I do like FaceBook for the fact that I am able to stay in touch with quite a
few old friends as well as new. Plus there is a group that I belong to from my
hometown that I enjoy.

site. Have been afraid to go on there. Do you have to have a picture on there
or can you just use an avitar?

I am so addicted to Facebook it is not funny.. So is my husband. He is sooo
bad with some of the games he sets the alarm for weird hours just to farm, cook
or feed. He will also stay up till 3 am to do the same. I originally joined to
keep in touch with friends from public school and now have many TM, school, old
neighbourhood, Mn., Boston, and people I met on Pogo as my friends. I am in
Farm Town, FarmVille, Mafia Wars, Pirates, Sorority Life, Mobsters, Roller
Coaster, Cafe World and so many more. Oh and lets not forget about the Fish..
If I am unable to be at my computer my husband will harvest, plow, plant, cook,
and feed for me. I usually have my chat open when I am on. I get more
information on my hometown on facebook than I do in the local paper..LOL. I get
to share in the daily activities of my friends and hear all the exciting news
like pregnancies, and engagements to the sad news as the passing of loved ones
and the breakup of families or a bad diognosis. I love the pictures people post
as well as the music, artwork, and status updates. If I am in a bad mood or
depressed I jump on line and there always a funny joke, picture or video to
cheer me up. There is always someone available to chat if I need it. Anyway..
here I go again.. if you want to add me as a friend look for Kathleen Moorhead
Blaschko or ladyowl1...@gmail.com

Kathy who is off to harvest in Lil farm..

Janice, you're so funny. I might add that you've got a lot of company here
regarding the age category Ha - I've been on Facebook for about a year, but
I still haven't played any of the games. My brain isn't capable of playing with
a full deck lately.

By the way, I ordered the Sloggers shoes that Grace wears all the time. They
should arrive in a couple of days. They look really comfortable. I'm sure my
doctor's eyes will light up when he sees most of my foot covered. It will be a
first!!

Maybe I'll give the games a try - they sound fun.

It could be... I've been on Facebook for j years and haven't
used it as much as I have the last 2 weeks since starting Farm Town. Good
thing I finished putting the latest TMA newsletter online before I got
into Farm Town, I would have really had some time management problems.

I got my mom on it too, which might have been a mistake. When harvest
time happens around our diner time, guess which has been coming first?
Yup, we have been eating later every night. :-)

Thanks Gracie. Pizza would be nice but I still need someone
to feed it to me too. :-)
Mahjongg and Pandora's Box are the ones I was hooked on for quite awhile
too. It's fun to find a game I can actually play where speedy movement of
the mouse is not a requirement.

It's a virtual farm sim. You plow your land, plant seeds,
hire people to harvest. You gain experience point to move up levels by
planting and visiting friends farms. You can also send Farm Town gifts to
your friends. So the more friends playing the better it is.
