[SlimDevices: Touch] FS: Almost never-used Squeezebox Touch

2020-09-14 Thread rgro

I have a Squeezebox Touch in excellent condition. Comes with original
power supply and remote control. The Touch is in perfect working order,
powered by the original PS. Not sure about the condition of the remote.
Sadly, the original packaging is long gone.

Will ship anywhere in the US, if you pay for the shipping method of your
choice.

Asking $100. Photos available upon request. PM me if interested!

I put one on order. So, I'll be feeding the USB from the VBA directly
to the REGEN and then from the REGEN into Benchmark using the Vortexbox
Player (aka Squeezelite). Right now the Vortexbox player audio output
device is configured for the Benchmark. Do you happen to know if that
will need to be reconfigured as showing the REGEN as the audio output
device or is the REGEN transparent to Squeezelite?

Hi rgro, nice to hear from you! Thanks for the information. Direct
connection to the VBA is appealing to me in theory, but I hesitate to go
that route in practice now that we've moved into a NOS 1906 house where
my VBA is on the top floor and the stereo is on the first floor. Running
a long USB cable through 1906 walls is a thought that I'm not sure I
want to contemplate. OTOH, the inability of the Benchmark to lock onto a
changed resolution automatically is driving me crazy. Too bad, because I
like the DAC very much, especially now that I've inserted an Uptone
REGEN in the chain, with astonishing results for SQ.

 Best regards,

 Guido F.

That'd be a long run for a USB cable! I've kept a Touch around as a
backup device, but I've been using the VBA directly to the Benchmark
(which I love!) for a year or so with just a few minor issues.
Mostly--about 99.9% of the time--- the setup works great. There's
always the homeplug route if you want to try to get the VBA next to your
dac.

I had a look at the REGEN which, it appears, has John Swenson's hand in
its design. People have lots of good things to say about it in other
forums, but the bits are bits rational side of me wonders whether the
sq improvement is real or just expectation bias. One thing I haven't
seen, yet, is anybody who's done any blind testing with it.

I've got my Benchmark connected directly to my VBA via USB and am using
Squeezelite as the player (no Touch in between). Within Squeezelite you
can set a delay time that helps the Benchmark better deal with sample

With EDO installed, then installing TT3.0, the SBT does not boot anymore
correctly. It boots a moment until the screen turns white for a short
second and then turns black and does not react anymore. No possiblity to
contact it through WinSCP either. Luckily, factory reset via the bottom
on the back still worked and helped me out. I'm not sure, what I did
wrong. Maybe things would have to be installed the other way round, TT3
first, changing settings, EDO after, or so. However, for the time being
I don't care and I leave only EDO installed, even though I can't use USB
output or 192k yet, but I hope I will get the chance to test further
 soon.

And, you thoroughly read through the instructions and notes here?:
http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/2011/11/touch-toolbox-30.html

If so, you would have read that one of the things that TT 3.0 does is
disable the screen. Don't know why you couldn't get in through WinSCP
after installation unless you'd already run the tt -k command which
effectively locks you out of the Touch until you do a reboot. I haven't
seen that it mattered in which order the EDO and TT 3.0 were installed.

BTW, it's all working perfectly for me, including Triode's Screen Off
app...producing wonderful SQ.

Besides installing Triode's app, all you'll really need, besides what
you likely already have, is the proper USB cable to go from Touch to to
dac. There are a lot of posters over on the EDO thread who have chimed
in on which dacs work and which have compatability problems (very few,
really) with Triode's app. I think if you give this a try, you'll be
pleasantly surprised at the increased SQ in your system. I've never

Thank you both for your replies. I'm not sure where I'll go with this,

Rega DAC is one that rgro likes according to many posts I've read. The
price is a bit more that I'd like to spend but if it is truly
exceptional perhaps I could be persuaded. It's not offered at Amazon and
I'd like to have a trial run with whatever DAC I decide on. So, again,
 thank you for your advice.

This forum is so valuable and both of you and others are (and have been
in the past) so very helpful! Thank you.

PS: I don't want a DAC that's too complicated. Is Triodes app an easy
 app to implement? TY

Triode's app is quite easy to implement. But if you're after easy, the
Rega might not be the best choice. Not because it's complicated,
itself, but the direct USB connection implementation on the Rega only
goes to 44.1/48 khz. In order to take full advantage of Triode's app,
you'd need to purchase a USB to SPDIF converter to place between the
Touch and the Rega (then you can use either coax or optical out of the
converter, depending). Since I already had the Rega, the only option if
I wanted to go with USB and be able to listen to full 88.1 or 96 khz
files---unless I wanted to go with a completely different dacwas to
try it with the converter. There are other USB-compatible dacs---less
expensive but still excellent quality--- where the converter is not
necessary (though you may or may not need an inexpensive USB hub,
depending on which one you get). It sounds more complicated than it
really is, in practice, so you really shouldn't be concerned whichever
way you decide to go.

Hard to give you a clear answer as I had the TP PSU in for quite a while
prior to Triode's USB implementation being successful. I have not done
any testing or listening via USB with and without the TP, having
preferred just to leave it in. At the time I purchased it (when there
was no USB capability), I felt there was a slight positive difference in
the overall sound and now, psychologically, it just makes me feel better
to leave it in there ;). One very minor nicety is that it's nice to
have the power switch that's on the TP PSU conveniently accesible if the
need arises to have to do a power-off reboot of the Touch---much easier
than having to reach around to unplug power from the wall or back of the
Touch.

It looks like you can do TT3.0 and EDO at the same time, though I think
that would interfere with one another. I'll have to try it out
 sometime.

You could try a hub, but I doubt it'll solve the issue of EDO and TT 3.0
working together. EDO and TT 3.0 will work together just fine if you
modifiy or eliminate the TT 3.0 priority section.

In the EnhancedDigitalOutput.lua file, does it matter what name the

the other files. The default name in the EnhancedDigitalOutput.lua file

[1] hopefully fixes rgro's problem. It looks like the alsa library

uses a fixed (the default) buffer size when opening streams which need
resampling via the plug layer. This means you ought to be able to tune
the output buffer (should you think this is useful) and it not prevent
you also switching between low sample rate radio stations and higher

Hi Triode,

Absolutely brilliant! The problem is, indeed, fixed. Thank you so

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch: WIFI or WIred that's my question?!?

Thanks to SBGK, the problem with switching to low bit rate streams is
now isolated to the period count. At 10 buffer with a period count
of 2, works o.k.; period count of 3 mostly works (chipmunks on the radio
stream for a second and then stabilizes, but can switch back and forth
between low bitrate station and server music).  At a period count of 4;
using any buffer setting, up to and including 9, the switch back
to server music from low bitrate stream kills everything. I don't know
that there's a solution to allow a larger buffer AND larger period count
but at least there's some understanding, now, of where the problem
lies...

I've experimented with a number of different combinations, but the only
one that seems to work when switching from a low bitrate radio stream to

Quite odd...

Went to the touchscreen after that hour to see what would happen

And, again, pressing the reset button was non-functional, so had to do a

Hi Triode,

So it seems there is a two part problem. I was playing a low bit rate
radio stream and then switched to My Music to play some music off the

locked up the Touch. It disappeared from the available players and
essentially become non-existent, and though the screen was still

I have recreated this three times in a row, so I'm quite sure that's
where the problem lies...

Will publish soon for test [only held off as it has a few other
 experiments in it]

Squeezeplay has 3 buffers of relevance:

 Streambuf (3M bytes) - (decoder) - Outputbuf (10 seconds at 44.1) -
 (jive_alsa) - alsa buffer

outputThreshold changes when jive_alsa starts to play a new track from
output buffer. I have tested with the threshold at 1 second which is
the same as you are using. It seems to work in these cases for 192k
playback. Note that 192k is always going to be more susceptible to
other processes on Touch than lower rates as the 10s output buff is
sized for 44.1 and is only 2 and a bit seconds worth for 192k. However
the rest of the squeezeplay application should not block for this long.
Jive_alsa runs at real time priority and it is the frequency this runs
which is impacted by alsa buffer tuning.

Edit: try the attached (unzip and use to replace in /usr/bin/jive_alsa
within Touch - make sure it is executable). It is intended to be used
with periodCount of 3 or more.

Hi Triode,

I'd like to give this a try, but have no clue what to do with this file

it with tt 3.0). What does one need to do to make sure it is
executable? Sorry for being a noob...but thanks for all your good

Glad to hear that might be a solution. I don't know if your how your
Rotel circuitry is set up internally. It's possible that there are
some handshake issues with the Touch's digital signal being fed into
the Rotel's internal dac. Others more knowledgeable than I can probably
explain why this might be.

If the Rotel has some type of bypass switch or direct mode(you can
probably find that out in the manual somewhere), you could also go back
to your Toslink or coax connection and, if you do have a direct or
bypass mode, see if that affects anything. Otherwise, probably best to
just stick with using the Touch's analog outs and let the amp do the
digitial lifting.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Asynch USB vs. non-USB

Looking at all the excitement over Triode's work with asynchronous USB
stuff, can someone explain to all of us numpties if asynch USB is
somehow better than, for instance, using a regular dac's connection

For instance, my Rega dac has a USB input. If the efforts to refine
the Touch's USB output are ultimately successful, and reliably so,
would there be some advantage to my implementing the Rega's USB
connection vs. the coax/toslink connections?

Thank you.

Thank you both. In light of your commenets, I did a bit of research on
the Rega dac. It seems that its USB interface only supports up to 16
bit/48khz files.

While I don't have a huge amount of 24 bit/88/96khz files, I have
enough that I don't think I would sacrifice those in order to make the
switch.

Apparently there are several ansychronous USB to SPDIF convertors (the
MF V-link being one) that will handle up to 24/96khz files. But, I
wonder if adding another device that converts the asynch usb back to
SPDIF is going to make me no better off, or even worse off than just
staying with my current configuration (aside from purchasing a
different dac). Any thoughts on this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Pop when changing tracks of different sampling rate

2012-03-05 Thread rgro

I tend to agree with Mnybit's likely the dac. Mine does
this--always has no matter what's running in the Touch or LMS (I knew
this was a feature when I purchased the dac). Oddly, it doesn't do
it 100% of the time when changing sample rates, and for me it's more of
a modest little static burst than a pop.

Welcome to the Touch world! You can use any of the outputs and note
that they're all on and active simulteneously. So you can actually
hook all three up at the same time (if your Marantz has all three input
types) and switch your amp's inputs back and forth to see which you
prefer. However, many (including me) here would argue that either of
the digitals will be the best. But, really, for a relatively small
investment in a coax, Toslink/optical, and RCA cable, you can hear and
decide for yourself.

TT is working fine for me on 7.7.1. Maybe try deleting and
reinstalling the the whole tt file. In the past, the Touch firmware
updates overwrote the old firmware, necessitating a complete reinstall
of the mods.

I actually had a problem with the Touch's firmware update hanging up
and wound up needing to do a complete Touch factory reset. Of course,
this also required reinstalling the TT file and redoing all off the
Touch's configuration mods. A bit of a pain, for sure, but at least I
know that TT 3.0 will work, given a fresh install.

Fortunately, if you don't need to do the factory reset, installing TT

Also, you should take a hard look at the Vortexbox Appliance as a very
good server + storage option. A number of folks here, myself included,
are pretty pleased with this one box solution.

Thanks for that, i will have a look into one of these. Any help on

Out of interest, how well does the Rega Dac work with the SB touch?
Is it much of an improvement over the on board Dac as i know it is ment
 to be good?

Over on the audiophile forum, there are two threads having to do with
Touch tweaks that, for some, seem to have made noticeable improvements
in the overall sq. One thread is Soundcheck's Touch Toolbox, the other
thread started out with mods made by dynaudiorules and then others added
their own improvements.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89359

As far as the Rega Dac, I couldn't be happier with how it sounds in my
setup and, yes, I did feel it was an excellent improvement over just
the straight Touch dac. As far as my own experience, the positive
comments regarding the Rega Dac made by others here and in other forums
are accurate.

Personally, I like the Vortexbox solution (having used my main PC as
the SB server for a year and a half) because I can just tuck it away
somewhere out of sight, leave it on 24/7 and the thing just seems to
work. If you don't have the budget (or desire) for a dedicated server
device, then using the PC makes sense as a multi-tasking unit. But, I
just found it became increasingly a PITA to use the PC for my music
server stuff.

Do keep in mind that the Vortexbox is a Linux-based device. I didn't
know one thing about Linux prior to purchasing the Vortexbox and,
honestly, that hasn't really been much of a factor. Any tweaks such as
those in the above threads will have you working with Linux command line
stuff in the Touch, so if you're a fiddler at all, you'll wind up
dabbling in Linux anyway.

I think most here would advise you to try both and see which one you
like. All outputs on the Touch are active simultaneously

I suspect your h/k receiver has input switching, so connect both
digitial and analog outputs from the Touch and you can just go back
forth between the two and see what you prefer.

2011-04-02 Thread rgro

Ah, but the question pertaining to this thread would be: did the files
that caused the problem have embedded artwork larger than 500 X 500?

If so, then it becomes a question of trading off any perceived SQ
benefit in shifting the decoding to the server vs. having (or deleting)
the large embedded art files.

As an aside, that mod can be one of a set of (Soundcheck's) mods that
some folks here (me included) say have made a noticeable difference in
the Touch's SQ, though if done one at a time, people may or may not
perceive any differences with an individual mod.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Album Covers sometimes appears question

2011-03-31 Thread rgro

Embedded art works fine, but every once in a while it can cause a little
problem. I recently downloaded an album from HDtracks that had embedded
art in each track. Unfortunately the art was 1400 x 1400 (238kb) and
the large size of the image caused SBS/Touch to have a big hairball.
The result was a huge burst of static when I tried to play the
tracks...no music whatsoever. I had to use MP3tag to remove the
embedded art from each track and then put a smaller jpeg in with the
traditional cover.jpg file and all was solved...So embedded art, unless
you put it in yourself and are careful with file and image size, can
cause this sort of issue.

edmondwolfman;622233 Wrote:
Do you have your art as a jpg in the same folder as the music or have
you embedded it into each file?

I use MP3Tag and embed the album art into each flac and my artwork
never disappears. I do run my server and have my music on my pc though.
I had it on a synolgy NAS at first but that was just too slow when
reindexing, etc. You said it takes over 40 minutes to rescan and my
synology was similar to what your are getting. Since I moved my server
to my pc and my music to a hd on the pc my clear everything and rescan
takes around 7 minutes and I have a lot of music, much of it being hi
 res.

Howard Turkster;612091 Wrote:
Thanks for the replies. I feel like I'm making progress. :) On option
#1 above here, does the router have to be connected to my home
 network/modem?

If I put an ethernet switch between the VBA and Touch alone, without
any connection to my home network, would that suffice?

Basically what my situation comes down to is this -- my stereo
listening system does not have wired access to my home network, and
enabling it as such with some new wiring doesn't seem feasible at this
time. And I do not want to connect wirelessly. I also prefer ethernet
connection to use of standalone HDD connected via USB. I want to use
the Touch on my listening system because I like the use of its analogue
outs, and I do like the ability to stream Internet radio (yes,
wirelessly for that) into my amp via these analogue outs. And I like
 its overall functionality.

So the easiest way to plug a 'server' directly into the Touch is what
I'm looking for. If I can use a VBA with an ethernet switch between
them I'm all for that. If I can't connect them through any
intermediary that itself is not somehow connected to my home network,
then I might just go back to using a netbook, which has already proven
that it works. I just would prefer using a VBA, or similar device, at
 this point.

My configuration is this:

DSL modem/router 16 port ethernet switch VBA Touch Stereo

I have about 10 devices (including the VBA, Touch, and a wireless
router configured as an access point) connected to the switch---all via
CAT6 cable---and it all works flawlessly. Installing the switch is dead
simplepower it up, plug in your internet connection into one of the
ports, plug in whatever devices you're going to plug into it, and it
takes care of each device being able to see/talk to the others.

One thing to be very aware of is, if--as I did---you're going to plug a
wireless router into the switch AND if both your broadband and wireless
router are running DHCP servers, you'll very likely need to turn off
DHCP in your wireless router and turn it into a simple access point.
Otherwise you'll probably run into IP address conflicts between your
broadband router and your wireless router which will vex and befuddle
you (speaking from personal experience!).

Well said, Aubuti! Now, last night Mrs. rgro and I did about a 1/2

abolutely nothing else changing, we went back and forth (though this
cannot be done instantaneously) between screen on and screen off. The
difference is subtle, at most, though we're going to try some more,
today. FWIW, Mrs. rgro was able to identify the screen off mode in a

screen-on tracks had a bit more of a muffled sense in comparison to
screen off.

This is somewhat contrary to whatever occurred before (per my original

striking. BUT...as I pointed out, we did a bunch of stuff mostly in
one fell swoop. Along with the other stuff, when we did all of the

of course, makes me wonder if it was much easier to resolve and hear
the effects of a number of cumulative changes as opposed to being able
to hear and resolve the effect of just the one specific mod, cable
change, ethernet, etc. (probably stating the obvious, but...).

iPeng, etc. we can dispense with the screen, but that seems a bit
much.

Garym, pragang, et al: I've been reluctant to get into the power
supply issue on the Touch since the benefits seems a bit err, ummm,
unclear. One question that this does bring to mind, though, is:

Is there any point to looking at the power supply to the DacMagic or is
that just not going to enter into the equation??? I've never seen much
discussion of the ps's on dacs influencing SQ. I suppose there's
probably a good reason for that, but I've no clue as to why.

I see, now, that the DacMagic's power supplies are actually internal.
The visible wall wart is just the transformer, so one can't just pop
on a new power supply.

However, it appears the both Audiocom and Fidelity Audio (both in the
U.K.) offer fairly signficant DacMagic upgrades.

Easy enough to check by reverting the cables.

I'm not too familiar with the particular Copland (personally preferring
the Bernstein/NYP) recording, but I see that it has a fairly high level
of residual tape hiss - even the SACD version wasn't cleaned. This
hiss is detail in the original tape master recording - like it or not
 - and so should be preserved in the replay chain.

So your changes must have slightly flattened/dulled the frequency
response if you now find the hiss less noticeable.

wi-fi/ethernet doesn't change frequency response nor do Soundcheck's
mods - ESPECIALLY if you are using an external DAC.

Thanks, Phil. Interesting that it could be related to the simple
change of cables...that's probably the last of the three changes I'd
have thought responsible (too simple, heheh). My reasoning for
changing the cables was thinking that those cables are essentially the
main artery for the sound traveling between dac and amp, so why trust
that to cheap cables...the LC-1's were only about $30, so it wasn't a
life-altering investment and seemed worth it if only for peace of mind.
I hadn't really expected that anything would change as a result.

But, indeed, it's very easy to check, and check I shall as soon as I've
had my morning coffee

And, in all honesty, there was really not a readily apparent difference.
If I'd really worked at it I might've convinced myself that there was a
slight improvement in overall SQ with the LC-1's, but it would fall
squarely in the Twilight Zone. Fanfare still sounded stellar. I'm
still keeping the LC-1's---more as an insurance policy than for anything
else.

I am quite content to say that, whatever combination of factors outside
the cables that have conspired to come together, I am absolutely
delighted with the result. It's only been about 15 months since we got
our first Squeeze device (the Duet) and it's been an amazing progression
of improvements and a really fun learning process. The current combo of
Touch, VBA, VA speakers, etc. is producing truly wonderful sounds in the
living room chez rgro!

I suspect that I am now at, or at least very near, the endpoint of
squeezing (sorry for the pun) the last few % of sound quality from my
existing systems. Absent spending some really big money, I'll probably
call it good for now. Couldn't have done it without the assistance of
this great community here.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Music really IS better sounding after changes

2011-02-05 Thread rgro

Hi...

I've made three changes in my system over the past month or so:

1. Switched from wi-fi to ethernet.

2. Implemented Soundcheck's mods (except one the turning off the
Touch's screen---that one is off-limits by spousal decree).

3. Most recently (yesterday) changed the interconnects between the
DacMagic and my amp from the cheap RCA's that came with the DacMagic to
a pair of Blue Jeans LC-1's.

I've been happily running through my music collection and enjoying some
good sounds---seeemingly sounding improved, but hard to really say for
sure. Tonight I cued up Copland conducts Copland---a collection of
Aaron Copland's works---Fanfare for the Common Man, Appalachian Spring,
Rodeo, etc. This was recorded in the 60's I believe with the Columbia
Symphony Orchestra.

I'd listened to the Copland a few months (pre the above changes) ago
after ripping my whole CD collection onto the VBA and, had mentally
noted a fair amount of audible noise (hiss) and, though a bit
disappointed, I'd just figured it was due to it being a not-so-good
recording. I could really hear this noise during Fanfare---anyone
who knows the piece will understand why. Suffice to say that tonight I
was stunned from the opening bars. The noise/hiss is almost gone...the
reverberations from the gong and tympani are crystal clear and there
was a depth and breadth to the sound that was simply not there
beforethis piece of music has completely come alive.

In some of the other Copland pieces, besides the enhanced clarity and
depth, I can hear those little human-caused noises from the musicians
that were not audible before.

This one's not just an I kinda' think it sounds betterI have
absolutely no doubt, now, that one or more of these changes have upped
my system's performance to a higher level. My 57 yr. old ears are
still in damn good shape (I can still hear the infamous Mosquito
tone), so I know---at the least---that I can hear the difference
between more hiss and little or no hiss, heheh. No, it's not night and
day, but I have absolutely no doubt, now, that an additional level of
quality is present that was not there before.

I've never heard of hiss as an artifact of a digital deficiency. That is
almost inevitably a byproduct of tape noise from the open reel used for
the original recording or something else going on with your analog gain
 stages in your amplification stream.

A recording from the 1960s would almost certainly have been recorded on
a studio open reel and this would have been pre-Dolby. The master
recording is simply going to contain a certain amount of hiss. Unless
you are using digital processing to remove this hiss, it simply won't
go away because you've changed certain aspects of your digital
 configuration.

Yeah, I'd thought about tape hiss and had wondered, myself, how it
would be possible for something on the recording itself to be sort of
filtered out by my equipment and not affect the rest of the recording's
sound quality, but that's about as far as my thinking and knowledge
could get. Perhaps something else is at work here?

I don't purport to know nor understand the source of the noise nor the
mechanism(s) by which it was all but removed (I can still hear a little
of it). Of course, this also made me wonder if, since this particular
recording had clearly audible noise that has been reduced, if I've been
experiencing other lower level noise (for lack of a better term) on
better recordings that has also been reduced, thus leading to a less
noticeable--but still there---improvement in SQ on other music.

But, all I really know for sure is that on this particular recording a
clearly audible noise that was once there and obscuring a degree of
clarity is now all but gone. I know the changes I've made (and they're
the only ones) and, at least as pertains to the particular noise, and
the current lack thereof, I trust my hearing as accurate. I happily
accept that a claims such as the generalized everything's so much
better when I did xx are open to rampant speculation and derision,
but on this one aspect on this one recording I am confident beyond a
shadow of a doubt that this change has occured. Beyond that it's all
electronic voodoo ;) as far as I'm concerned.

You can install the Vortexbox software on any suitable beater computer

download from the Vortexbox website. If you don't prefer the somewhat
enhanced functionality of the Vortexbox s/w (and its Linux-based
operating system), why not just install the SBS software on said same
beater computer? A lot of folks here have done just that and it seems
to work just fine. Currently, as a backup to my Vortexbox, I keep an
up to date copy of SBS installed on my Win7 desktop PC (which ran
everything just fine before I got the VBA). Just keep in mind that
you'll likely decide that want to run your server 24/7, so aesthetics
and power consumption may or may not come into play.

So I want to know what the sound of a Touch is like when connected to a
stereo. Maybe I connected my classic wrongly or used the wrong cables. I
connected it through phono, which was the only place where it was able
 to produce any sound.

Hoping somebody will be able to shed light on this matter.

 Peter

Ummm...if you had the Classic connected into the phono input jacks of
your amplifier, that would very likely be a problem. Much less of a
problem if you had the Classic connected to the correct amp inputs and
were just using RCA phono-type RCA cords.

If you don't have enough non-phono input connections on your amp to
accommodate the Classic or possibly the Touch (highly recommended!) and
don't want to buy a new amp, you might consider purchasing a small
switcher box where you could connect at least two devices in to it with
the switcher just one out to your amp. You'd have to switch inputs
each time you wanted to use a different device, but it'll be cheaper
than buying a new amp.

The receiver status light technically doesn't show you whether or not
the server software is actually running, but shows whether or not
you're connected to it. Seems like splitting hairs, but there could be
more than one reason (besides the server s/w not running) as to why that
light might be blue. The best way to know if your server software is
actually running is to go to the machine that's running the server

would be the same with the Touch.

Your latest mod guarantees to have a volume value of 100% - anytime and

I think if you'd advertised it just as that I guess I wouldn't be

I know nothing from the technical side of these things. What I think I

encourage that. Tinkerers usually have more misses than hits and the
fact that soundcheck does not seem to be doing this for any personal

enjoyment and that of the general community---again, I find this
admirable. He's put in a a lot of time on this stuff.

So, let's please not come down on him too hard when he misses
(constructive criticism on a case-by-case basis---or mod-by-mod
basis,as it were---is certainly appropriate) and let's keep an open
mind so that when/if he hits, we don't automatically lump everything
he tries in with the misses. On this one, it appears that to my lay
eyes/ears bluegaspode has made a good point (though, under the
circumstances, I think calling it a scam was a bit harsh).

When soundcheck starts trying to sell his mods to us for $5,000, that's
when we ought to get extremely suspicious. Until we are given to
believe otherwise, we ought to be encouraging his creativity and, when
appropriate, courteously pointing out any flaws in his mods and/or
