Re: [users] Formula in spread sheet

Shouldn't it be...

=IF((N25*N26*21,67)>=1000;1000;N25*N26*21,67)

You originally had a string "1000" in the IF formula.

[users] Formula in spread sheet

2005-04-18 Thread Chadley Wilson

Greetings

In cells G23 i Have this formula

=IF((N25*N26*21,67)>=1000;"1000";N25*N26*21,67)

And in cell G33 I have this formula,

=G23+10

When the condition is true for the value to be 1000 then it ignores the value

eg: G23 is equal to 1000

G33 = 10 instead of 1010

Why??

I am stumped

TIA
Chad

[users] Pocket Excel compatibility

2005-04-18 Thread Wisu
Hi all,

I tried opening a Pocket Excel file
failed with OOo 1.1.4 calc
worked with OOo 1.9.79 except for formulas
where "=E1+E2+E3" would result "ooow:=E1+E2+E3"

Thought I'd feed back, or maybe someone has an alternative
however I can still manage with deleting the "ooow:" in front of each
formula

Thank, Wisu

Try changing the file extension to .txt or .csv and then try it.
Alternatively in Calc select open and then select the file.

I'm assuming that the file is simply a delimited file of X rows of data...

Try opening up calc through the start menu or however you normally start
it up when ready to do something on a new file. Click on file, open.
Go to the file and click on it once. Then in the File of Type box,
select Text CSV. Then hit open. You should then get a box that lets

[users] Deleting filepaths / URL's in OO1.1.4

2005-04-18 Thread Charles Murphy
Hi Everyone,

Open Office automatically turns file paths into URL's (Cool Feature).

These are displayed and can be accessed when you are in a document in the

"Pull down window" in the upper left of the screen. It looks as though you
get every

document you have worked on to date.

Question: How do you "Clear any or all of the entries" from that window or
does

   Open Office automatically do that after a time or a certain
number of

   files have been accessed?

Question: Can you inactivate or turn off this action?

Please answer, I'd really like to know.

THANKS!!!

Hi Paul,
Try using $ - end of a paragrph. For some strange reason it won't

I'm trying to replace '^-' (or, using more conventional new line
notation, '\n-') with ' -' - that is, I'm trying to collapse
paragraphs - but tying the search string to the end of the previous
paragraph doesn't do it. That's probably because a multiline marker
would be needed - another thing I didn't see listed in Help.

Thanks,

Someone else explained that SEARCH and REPLACE doesn't look across
paragraphs - it only looks a paragraph at a time. To collapse them, you
have to fool it. i do that by replacing the paragraph marker with a
symbol (like %%), then doing your global replace, then replacing %% with
new paragraphs.

I use this when I inherit a document with paragraph markers at the end
of each line and double-spaced paragraph markers between paragraphs.

Try replacing $ (the paragraph marker) with %. Then replacing %%
(double-spaced lines) with \n (new paragraph marker).

Not sure why you're using the "-" in your search string. The right one
is "$" for end-of-paragraph marker, "^" for start-of-paragraph. To find
blank lines, use "$^", or "^$".

A "Form" in a database document is really a Write document.
Forms and controls are contained in the draw page. Your first step,
therefore, is to obtain the draw page.

Sub Main
 Dim oForms
 oForms = ThisComponent.getDrawPage().getForms()
 MsgBox FormsHeirarchy(oForms, "")
End Sub
Function FormsHeirarchy(oForms, sLead$) As String
 Dim s$
 Dim i%
 Dim oForm
 Dim x
 GlobalScope.BasicLibraries.LoadLibrary("Tools")
 For i = 0 to oForms.getCount()-1
   oForm = oForms.getByIndex(i)
   s = s & sLead & FormHeirarchy(oForm, sLead)
 Next
 FormsHeirarchy = s
End Function
Function FormHeirarchy(oForm, sLead$) As String
 Dim s$
 Dim i%
 Dim x
 s = s & sLead & "+" & _
 GetFileNameExtension(oForm.getImplementationName()) & _
 ":" & oForm.getName() & CHR$(10)
 For i = 0 to oForm.getCount()-1
   x = oForm.getByIndex(i)
   If x.supportsService("com.sun.star.form.component.Form") Then
 s = s & FormHeirarchy(x, sLead & "+")
   Else
 s = s & sLead & "++" & _
 GetFileNameExtension(x.getImplementationName()) & _
 ":" & x.getName() & CHR$(10)
   End If
 Next
 FormHeirarchy = s
End Function
Now, you can see how things are embedded. Each form and forms object
should support getByName(), so if you know the name and the name of each
parent item, you should be able to get what you want. For example.

Function getFromForm(oDoc, sNames())
 Dim x
 Dim i%
 x = oDoc.getDrawPage().getForms()
 For i = LBound(sNames()) To UBound(sNames())
   If x.hasByName(sNames(i)) Then
 x = x.getByName(sNames(i))
   Else
 Print "Warning, object named " & sNames(i) & " does not exist"
 Exit Function
   End If
 Next
 getFromForm = x
End Function
The following code works for me... I have a form called Standard, which
contains a form called Catalog, which contains a form called Country,
which contains a control called "TextBox_Country". The second example,
returns the Dealer form, which is contained in the Standard form.

Sub Main
 Dim x
 x = getFromForm(ThisComponent, _
 Array("Standard", "Catalog", "Country", "TextBox_Country"))
 x = getFromForm(ThisComponent, Array("Standard", "Dealer"))
End Sub
Finally, I noticed that you cross posted to the users, dev, and dba
mailing lists. Wow, that is a lot of mailing lists. Of course, I might
not see your answer if you do not reply to the correct one. H

My personal opinion is that this is just a hold-over from the

OOo2 betas are in rpm and now in deb format and therefore the old
install or setup file information is not germane, just hasn't been

If you have a look at the following installation guide it should
answer all your queries :
http://documentation.openoffice.org/setup_guide2/index.html

You specific problem however is that once you have downloaded the file
you need to unzip the contents of the file into a spare directory.
Once that is done, you can run the setup.exe file...

Open Office by default uses the the fonts installed in Windows- you

Are you aware that the 2.0 Beta uses a different default file structure

I presume you use KDE if you are using konqueror.

If there isn't one, the spellchecker for UK English is probably closer

[users] [Scripting] possible to modify a database form field?

2005-04-18 Thread Jens Ansorg
Hi all,
Using m92
I have set up a database that connects to a table in mysql.
I have created a form in that database that allows me to edit records.
I'd like to extend this form a little:
I'd like to add a button that executes a function/macro that
 - gets the currently selected text in a multi-line textbox
 - asks me (input dialog) for a string, i.e "foo.jpg"
 - adds some generated text around the selected text in the textbox,
i.e. [img=foo.jpg]selected_text[/img]

is this possible with scripting in OOo?
Which language would I need?
I played around with Basic and I got so far that I get some information
about the form (like what database, what query etc) but found no way to
access the form fields and modify the content

any ideas?
thanks

Re: [users] [moderated]

2005-04-18 Thread Urska Colner
hi kathryn

1. to create new documents as A4, you can do one of the following:
a) go to Tools - Settings - Locale and set the locale to something other
than en_US (which uses Letter as default, if i'm not mistaking) or
whatever you're using. but this might also influence some other behaviour.
b) open a new file, go to Format - Page, on Page tab select A4 as Format
and click OK. then (do not change anything else in the document!) go to
File - Templates - Save and name the file DefaultA4. save it with OK. then
go to File - Templates again and select Organize. in the dialog, find
DefaultA4 template and click on Commands button. when it opens a drop-down
list, select the 'Use this one as default' command. click OK again. and
close OpenOffice. when you open it again and select a new text document,
it should open an empty A4 page.

2. the spellchecker will work if you have the following: you must have set
up the correct language for your documents. if you're writing your
documents in german, the english spellchecker will not work :) so: go to
Tools - Options - Language settings and check what you have for Western
and for Locale. select the langauge you are using. if you see a blue
checkmark next to its name, this means that the spellchecker for it is
installed. now, in a new document, also check which language the Default
paragraph style is using: open Stylist (F11), right-click on Default and
select Modify. under the Font tab you should find the list of languages.
make sure it is the one you need.

hi gary

thanks for testing OOo, since it's not stable yet. to make sure developers
get your issue information, you should sign in to issue tracker and file a
report. for that, you'll have to register on the OOo website.

I can't seem to replicate your issue. My table columns stay where they
are. You may have been advised of this in the past, but OOo isn't
really the best for creating web sites.

My recommendation has always been Nvu (www.nvu.com) for that type of thing.

Hi Urska and Cor,

Yes you are both right, once I defined blank pages and used the header
styles in the template they were correctly imported into the
documents each time I reloaded it.

So defining them isn't enough, they have to be used in the template to
be used in the document. Once again, it's a case of the most obvious
thing possible is the way it works.

Thanks to both of you for the pointers and help

 The folder that the dictionaries are installed into is something like
/share/dict/ooo as opposed to 'dictinstaller' you mention.

Have a check on this directory and advise the list.

select Symbol font in dialog, click OK, click Find

Re: [users] Spellcheck Problem

2005-04-18 Thread Urska Colner
hi helmut

this will seem a bit obvious, but what is the language you use to create
your documents in? maybe you have the spellchecker set up for say German
and all the documents you receive are in German, but you use English for
your documents. happened to me before, too.

go to Tools - Options... - Language settings. check the default Western
language and the locale. if you have it both set for the correct language
(=the one you use to write your documents), then it should work.

Re: [users] mail merge more than 1 page of labels

2005-04-18 Thread Urska Colner
hi

NOTE: after you do mail merges, that is after you click Print, OOo will
only display one page of the document - the last one that will be printed.

is this what you're seeing? because if it is, OOo will still print the
rest of the labels, but it will only show you the last page so you can see
where you left off.

or, did it only print 14 labels instead of 5 pages?

Re: [users] Finding an Instance of a Font

The only thing I can think of is to reapply all the styles. If you are
sure that you have used no symbol styles, then reapplying the styles
that you have used should not effect anything but that font which has
creeped in.

I would recommend that you do this on a _copy_ of your original to
ensure that nothing gets ruined... Select format > autoformat > apply

try this:
1. Ctrl-F to open the Find&replace dialog.
2. leave the Find and Replace with fields empty.
3. click Attributes. find and check Font. click OK.
4. click Format... and select Georgia from the list of available fonts.
click OK.
5. click Find or Find all.

this should find all words which use the Georgia font.

as alan already said, you have to save documents in .doc format to be able
to use them in word. word doesn't read .sxw format. you can even set OOo
to always save the files in .doc format, if you wish.

you should check http://www.openoffice.org to see if there's a dutch
version of OOo ready. it should be called something like
OOo_1.1.4_Win32Intel_install_nl.zip (for Windows). this one should contain
a dutch interface and a spellchecker. if you got an english interface, you
must have downloaded the wrong version. OOo2.0 beta probably isn't
localized into dutch yet and is only available in english for the time
being.

Re: [users] Presentations

2005-04-18 Thread Urska Colner
hi vicki

there are two options as i see it:
1. either you were inserting graphics as links instead of embedding them:
when you select Insert - Graphic, you get a dialog for selecting the
graphic. in the lower left-hand corner of the dialog you should see a
field called Link. if this is selected, impress will only put links to
graphics into the file, which means that Impress will only display these
graphics as long as they are still saved in the same location as they were
before. as soon as you move the impress presentation or the graphics to
another location, it will lose them and no longer display them

or
2. you disabled graphics view: in OOo 1.1.x version, this was controlled
by a button on the object toolbar in the left-hand side of the document.
it look something like different shapes and a red cross over them. you
might have clicked it accidentally. if you did, then the graphics are
still there, but impress won't display them (the viewing of the slides is
usually much faster this way, i always use it)

hope this helped

[users] Finding an Instance of a Font

2005-04-18 Thread DC Parris
I have written a book that I plan to publish on Lulu.com. According to
Lulu's help info, OOo should convert to PDF pretty well. However, I have a
symbol font that does not get embedded into the PDF file. Since I used
paragraph styles for my text (and never set anything to use the symbol font)
I am not sure what is using the symbol font. I do see that I need to change
the font settings in a few places, but I don't know about the symbol font.

Acrobat Reader 7.0 reveals all the fonts, and shows their status as
either embedded, embedded subset, or not embedded. How can I find what's
using the (or a) symbol font? Or how can I be sure it gets embedded?

I'm using OOo 1.1.3 on SUSE Linux 9.2. I checked my copyright symbol, and
it's Georgia. The find/replace dialog seems to offer font-related
attributes, but I am not sure that means I can search for the instances of a
given font. Since I don't know what words might be using the symbol font, I
cannot search on the words, either. Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks in advance,
Don

Hi,
I have a long document in Writer 1.1.3. I use a custom template with 9
custom page styles, and also use Left Page and Right Page styles.
Some of the custom page styles have header and footer text, some
don't. Where headers are present, they are defined as using Header
Left or Header Right para styles as appropriate

When I update the template and reload the document, all header and
footer text on custom page styles is removed, and the para style is
reset to plain Header. Pages that use the standard Left and Right
Page styles are left intact and not changed.

The template is a blank document, containing no text, it only defines
styles.

How do I fix this behaviour?
Hi Alan,
The 'blank' template contains information about page styles as well. Did
you also define those?
(Re-)applying the template, make headers and footers change as well. Or
disapear, if not defined in your template...
You might also want to look in Format |Styles |Load. There you can
choose to load for example, only paragraph styles.

Does this solve your problem?
Kind regards,

[users] OOo-1.9.82: loading a Calc kbd-conf-file saved in an OOo-1.1.4 file

2005-04-18 Thread Ennio-Sr
I started trying OOo-Beta(1.9.82) ;)
Opened a Calc file previously saved in 1.1.4: in this file I saved the
keyboard configuration (i.e. CTRL+keys association to a few macros) to a
file, that can be re-loaded with Tools > Configure > Keyboard > Load.

If I try to do the same from 1.9.82 nothing happens; or, better, the
same steps do not raise any error but, at the end, the CTRL+keys do not
work ;(

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your attention.

Ennio.

Hi all,
I downloaded the deb pckgs from the site suggested a few posts ago
(ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/Beta)
untar-zipped them and then ran dpkg -i *1.9.82*deb.
OOo-1.9.82 was installed alongsize the older 1.9.79 and seemed to work.
Afterwards I removed 1.9.79 and it still seems to work (apart from a
particular for which I'm posting separately).
Now:
In the README file it is recommended to "call the installation program
of the newer version and choose 'Repair'" when you remove the older
installation.
The point is that I can't see any 'install' or 'setup' file in those
packages. How can I observe the recommendation?

Thanks for your attention.

If so, select F4 which brings up the data source manager. Select

like structure listing the individual entries that are in the
bibliography database. You can delete rows from there.

I would suggest however removing them from the text body is easier.

The ones in the text body are OK. It's incorrect unused ones I want to
delete.

I've assumed that you are using OOo1.X.X since it is a little
different in OOo2.X

 The simple answer is yes. If you want detailed information about
where and how "OpenOffice" can be used, find the license for it on the
www.openoffice.org web site.
 If you are using a Mac, may I suggest you consider NeoOffice/J

Open Office can use the MS Office document formats, but MS Office
cannot use Open Office document formats.

Writer by default saves documents in the .sxw format. To get a file
that Word can read you have to select the correct MS format in the
file type field of the Save As... dialog box

You could make the client aware of the situation, or ask him to put very

I thought about this, but Word handles this issue easily and thought

By way of an experiment, get the latest 2.0 beta candidate and try that

 Perhaps you misread the JRE requirement window. You do have a

Almost every build of OOo 2.0 I've used crashes when saving (no
problem with 1.1.4).
Originally I noticed that OOo 2.0 switched File dialogues to the GTK
gnome file dialogue and thought that was the problem; however in
build
1.93 I noticed it had been replaced with OOo generic file dialogue
box, much like the one common to 1.1.4. While I used Save As...
without error, when I later clicked the "Save" icon the entire
document crashed and I lost all data.
I'm wondering if this problem is specific to me, or Gnome users, or
Linux users in general etc.
Thanks.
I have the same situation in KDE on Debian testing in editions of ooo
above
1.9.79.

Re: [users] [moderated] downloading patch for 1.1.4

2005-04-18 Thread Anthony Chilco
Hi Sixshoes,
I can't help with the download problem other than to say
that you may not want to download at all. I'm using Win2000
as well. I installed the patch last week and have had
constant unrecoverable errors since. This morning I couldn't
even run OOo. I ran setup and repaired the installation and
all is well again. I'm going to try once more to install the
patch. I'll let you know what happens.

Hello, I need to download the patch. Is the sot645mi.dll the one? I have Windows 2000. When I went to download, the website was openofficeorg-mirrors. I don't want to download harmful files, so I need to know if this is the correct site that I should download your security patch from. Unfortunately, I got the message about the security breach, after, I think, someone infiltrated my browser. It is acting odd since the 13th of April.

Thanks so much for your much needed advice on this matter. S.S.

Re: [users] Calc cell protection

2005-04-18 Thread Anthony Chilco
Hi Peter,
You can use 'format / cells' and go to the 'protection' tab
to set the protection for selected cells in a sheet. This
will not be effective until you use 'tools / protect
document' and select either 'sheet' or 'document'. Since all
cells have protection enabled by default, the best method
is to select the entire sheet and unprotect all cells, then
select the cells that you want to protect and enable
protection for those cells. Once that is done, protect the
sheet or the document. At this point, you will be prompted
for a password. If you don't want a password, select 'OK'
with the password boxes clear. If you enter a password, be
sure that you do not lose it. OOo encrypts the password and
there is no way to recover it.

Hello!
I'm Peter Boross from Hungary, I use OO.o 2.0 beta (1.9.91) under Linux.
I have a question:
How can I set, that in OO.o Calc, a set of cells (for example: result
field for a complex calculation) were no editable?
If I changed the input values in an 'input' cell, the content of
'result' cell could change with the pre-programmed way, but the direct
overwriting of the 'result' cell with a numerical data should be
impossible (=should be available only with password)?

Sincerely,

I hadn't explored the Calc - Options feature very much until recently. I
find that when going down the items, I will get to about "Sort Lists"
where it throws up an error "Invalid Increment" This happens in all the
other options from that point on. To use any of the Option features I have
to close the program and start again. I can only view the full list of
features if I view them in a blank spreadsheet.

 No joy - it told me that it couldn't do the job since "unicows.dll"
 was missing!
You can re-download it from the Microsoft web site.
Here is how:
1. Go to the Microsoft Download Center at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
2. In the 'Product / Technology' list, click either 'Windows 95', 'Windows
98', or 'Windows ME'.

3. In the 'Keywords' text box, type 'Unicode'.
4. Click the 'Go' button.
5. Click the 'Platform Software Development Kit Redistributable: Microsoft
Layer for Unicode on Windows 95, 98, and Me Systems…' hyperlink, and
follow the directions to download 'unicows.exe'.

Good luck!

[users] LINKS INSIDE SPREADSHEETS

2005-04-18 Thread Ramon Sole
Hello,
I'm working with a spreadsheet in which some cells are dinamically
linked to other spreadsheets.

Everything is going fine, but when I want to save te file its size is
huge (a sheet with just 5 cells linked is 14 MB). That's making the
loading process very slow. Just for comparison, the Excel equivalent is
about 5 times smaller.

Any hint about what's happening, pls?
Is that the ordinary behaviour of OpenOffice with links?
TIA

[users] A few questions

2005-04-18 Thread Suurland, Jim
Dear sirs,

Since a few weeks I am getting myself familiar with Open Office.org 2.0
beta to see if I can changeover complete from MS office.
Results so fat have been very positive so far.

But a few "stupid" questions still have to be answered and I hope you
can help me with that.
1) My Word program seems not to open Writer documents and Writer does
not open all the word files (all made in the same way), is this because
of the fact that it is a beta version?, or am I doing something wrong?
2) maybe the most important question:
Prefered language is Dutch, when I download the language is asked for,
the programme however stays in English.
Is it possible to convert, or to download a full Dutch version yet?
(would be easier to work with, also regarding the spelling control etc.)
Maybe you can recommend the 1.1.4 version in this case? or is the
language issue the same there?

Hopefully you can help me a bit further in this matter for which I thank
you in advance, hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards
Jim Suurland

I am using OO 1.9.79 and I am having trouble installing additional

Is there another way to install additional language packs?

Thanks,

Finally! An e-mail address where I can send my issue. I just downloaded the
latest version and found that I cannot use it. The developers seem to believe
that the English speaking population of the world is American only. I am
Canadian and do not subscribe to the US version of the English language. The
thesaurus is for Americans only. Too bad. OpenOffice is a very good idea and
some day I hope to be able to use it.
