Re: no sound in the lock screen whn getting a text message
No, you will not hear calls with do not disturb on, unless a contact in your favourites call you, or you get the same call within three minutes. You can also tell do not disturb to silence all incoming calls in its settings. The only improvement I can see is, a better speaker. My younger brother has an iphone 5 and the speaker is so much better. If there were a sixth Gen iPod Touch it would have been announced 10 days ago when Apple had their iPad and Mac event. The current fifth generation of the iPod Touch really is hard to improve on at this point except maybe with respect to the processor. It has the A5 processor which is the same as in the iPhone 4S and typically Apple would not put the same processor in an iPod Touch as you would find in the top of the line model of iPhone at the time which means the A7 processor. It was even surprising to many that Apple put that into the iPad Mini. At best an upgrade this year would have meant the iPod Touch might have come out with the A6 processor, but apart from that last year's upgrade already included most of the good stuff and in any case, the iPod Touch often has been on a 2-year cycle. The current model already has the new form factor with a 4 retina screen, a 5 MP Eyesight rear camera with flash, a front camera for Facetime and Skype, it has Bluetooth 4.0 and simultaneous 2.4 and 5 GHz 802.11N WiFi and it has SIRI. If somebody wants an iDevice but is not ready for an iPhone or an iPad or iPad Mini, then the fifth generation iPod Touch is an excellent deviceand it's much closer in specs to an iPhone than was the case with the third generation iPod Touch or even the fourth generation. Ok folks, I'm wondering something here. Why would you need to lock the rotation on an iPhone? I've never had an occasion yet where I needed to lock the screen from rotation. Obviously, some people have a need to do so or they wouldn't be doing it. I can only recall one game that did it but it changed it and locked it for you and that was shut the box chrome. RE: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC
Sorry for jumping in on this conversations- I am trying to follow your directions and need a bit of clarification. Are you saying that unwanted apps must be deleted in 2 locations? 1) on the PC- in the iTunes media/mobile applications folder 2) within iTunes itself- select the 'Apps' button, find it in the list, then use the delete key to remove? This is interesting because I thought some list members had said that unwanted apps could not be deleted from the PC, just not installed on the phone. Cher -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Saturday, November 02, 2013 1:57 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC Hi Linda, Go into your apps library and delete those you don't want, iTunes will ask you if you want to move them into the Recycle bin and you should say yes to that because otherwise it will delete the entry from your apps library but the app remains physically on your PC in the Mobile Applications folder which is inside your iTunes Media folder. If, in turn, you go into the Mobile Applications folder and simply delete the apps using Windows the entry for said app is not deleted from your iTunes library and will result in a broken link. If you press Delete on an app in the app library (I find checking the List radio button is easiest to go through your list of apps, you first get the following alert: iTunes Are you sure you want to delete the selected app from your iTunes library? This app will not be deleted from any iOS device that synchronizes with your iTunes library. Do not ask me again (this is a checkbox so you could check this if you don't want that message each time) Delete App Cancel (these are your 2 buttons you can press. If you choose Delete App, you then get this prompt: iTunes Do you want to move the selected app to the Recycle Bin, or keep it in the Mobile Applications folder? Only files in the Mobile Applications folder will be moved to the Recycle Bin. Cancel Move to Recycle Bin Keep Files This is the same prompt you get when you try to delete a song and some people find it misleading. It asks if you want to move the selected app to the recycle bin or keep it in the Mobile Applications folder (or music folder in the case of a song). Then it tells you only apps in the Mobile Applications folder will be moved to the Recycle Bin. Basically what this means is that if an app is not in the mobile applications folder, you can delete it but it won't be moved to the recycle bin. With apps this may not happen as often because typically you would have themin the mobile applications folder. However, let's assume it's music in which case the prompt would say: Do you want to move the selected song to the Recycle Bin, or keep it in the iTunes Media folder? Only files in the iTunes Media folder will be moved to the Recycle Bin. If you used the File and Add Folder to Library option to point iTunes to a particular folder on your hard drive or even an external drive and added these songs to your library, then deleting them from the library would not move them to the Recycle Bin, they would remain in wwhatever folder or on whatever drive they are. Only if the song is in a subfolder in the iTunes Media folder you can not just delete it from the library list in iTunes, but also move it to the recycle bin. Say Move to Recycle Bin if you want to delete the app or song completely, say Kepp Files if you want it gone from the listing in iTunes but if you want to leave it physically in the folder. Hopefully this makes sense. Re: Locking iPhone in portrait mode
Alan, Many people do not hold their iDevice as vertically or horizontally as necessary to keep its orientation one way. When the device is tilted beyond 45 degrees, the screen changes its orientation so the side is now the top. This means, everything moves. Locking the screen means it will not change where the top of the screen is no matter which direction the device is held. I usually keep my screen orientation locked so I can hold my iPhone at any angle and have the top remain at the top. Re: siri voice quality
No, what you hear is what you get. You cannot change the speed of the Siri voice either. The only thing you can change is either male or female voice, if you are using the US english voice. If you change to british or Australian voice (UK is male and AU is female), your speaking accent also needs to change. When I had Siri set to AU for Karen rather than the US voice, dictation made a lot of errors. So, I have US voice when using Siri, and AU voice when using VO. Re: Locking iPhone in portrait mode
Right, when I'm putting my iPhone on my leg or on an end table, I may rotate it a bit to make swiping more comfortable. I don't want it flipping to landscape out from under me, and I figure why spend the processing power and battery consumption to check for something I don't want to change anyway. Of course, it's just a setting, which people can turn on if they want it or just leave it off if they don't want to or don't care one way or the other. I usually keep my screen orientation locked so I can hold my iPhone at any angle and have the top remain at the top. VO volume on iPhone 5s after updating from 4s
Hello all, Sorry for the cross post, but I have a question. I recently updated my iPhone 4S to a 5s, and I was aware of the bug where you have the volume in the roter. I knew one should't go below 35% and that it couldn't go above 90%. IAfter my update I still had volume in the roter, and it was on 45% and wouldn't go above that! I didn't dare go below that. I still have my 4s, which I can go all the way to 1% to 100% successfully each and every time. So, how do I get my VO volume to go up to 100%? Should I sync my iPhone 4S with the computer with it up to 100% in the roter volume and then sync my 5s so that volume is at 100% and then lower it to say 75% and take volume out of the roter? I did the following on my iPhone 5 and it worked. This does not mean it will work on the 5S, which I do not have. Remove volume from the rotor. Be somewhere where a two-finger flick up will cause VO to do a lot of reading. Perform the two-finger flick up and, whilst VO is talking, press the volume down button until no sound is heard. Now, do another two-finger flick up. Though it cannot be heard, VO will start reading the screen again, the same way, and at the same speed. Re: VO volume on iPhone 5s after updating from 4s
Hello, Yes VO volume will adjust with the volume buttons, but when I lower it using the buttons my VO ring volume decreases and I do have adjust with side volume turned to off and so the VO voice and the allerts are both low despite the slider telling me the ringer volume is 84%. It didn't work like this on my 4s. When the slider was at a high volume, the system and allert sounds were loud and VO spoke softly. Re: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC
Sieghard and All, I know this goes beyond the original question, but how do I remove unwanted apps from my Ipod Touch? Step by step directions would be appreciated. Tia. Susan -Original Message- From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Saturday, November 02, 2013 1:56 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC Hi Linda, Go into your apps library and delete those you don't want, iTunes will ask you if you want to move them into the Recycle bin and you should say yes to that because otherwise it will delete the entry from your apps library but the app remains physically on your PC in the Mobile Applications folder which is inside your iTunes Media folder. Re: How to Reauthorize my iTouch 5 in iTunes?
You actually don't have to authorize iDevices to playback content synced from iTunes. If your computer is authorized, content should transfer just fine. If you want to associate your device with your Apple ID for automatic downloads and downloading past purchases right from the device, then go to settingsiTunes App Store and make sure you're signed into your primary Apple ID. Then simlly turn on the options you want, such as automatic music downloads. But again, content from iTunes should be syncing fine without doing any of this. RE: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC
Hi Cher, If you tell iTunes to move the app to the recycle bin when you delete it in iTunes then it will be removed completely. However, the app is still in your purchase history and if you ever search for that app again in the app store you can redownload it without having to purchase it again. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Don and Cher Bosch Sent: Sunday, November 03, 2013 11:51 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC Sorry for jumping in on this conversations- I am trying to follow your directions and need a bit of clarification. RE: Removing Unwanted Apps From Itunes on PC
Hi Susan, The easiest is to delete the app on your iPod Touch, if you are syncing apps with iTunes this will also uncheck the app in iTunes and it won't reappear on your iPod Touch. To delete an app, just do a double tap and hold on the app (or any app for that matter), Voiceover will say Moving followed by the name of the app you were on when you did the double tap and hold. Now just find the app you want to delete, Voiceover will say each app name as you swipe or move around the screen followed by editing. Once focus is on the app you want to get rid of, double tap anywhere and Voiceover will ask if you want to delete the app, you have to confirm it and that's it. When you are done press the home key once to get out of editing mode. Re: How to Reauthorize my iTouch 5 in iTunes?
Yes, it’s actually quite a mess. I have iTunes warning me that if I don’t authorize the computer for iTunes, apps will be deleted from my iPod. When I try to authorize the computer, it says it’s already authorized. I ok that, and I get the not authorized message again. It’s chasing its own tail and driving me nuts. LOL So yes, I thought I’d gotten my computer authorized, but something is definitely in a limbo state. I’m using the same Apple ID for everything. Re: VO volume on iPhone 5s after updating from 4s
Please note: I did not say that the feature was working properly. I specifically stated the method I used to get VO to go above 35%. The fact is, all of the iPhone's volumes will go down to 0. Then, all of VO's volumes will come back up, bringing VO above 35% with the master volume. After this point, VO should remain in-sync with the master volume. This is merely a work-around until Apple repairs the volume issue for VO. Re: How to Reauthorize my iTouch 5 in iTunes?
Hi Teresa, I think your best bet is probably to deauthorize all your computers and then reauthorize them. To do this, go to the Store menu and choose the View your account option. On the page that will come up, there's a section called Computer Authorizations. It tells you how many computers are authorized. In that section is a Deauthorize All button. Once you do this, I think you'll be able to authorize your computer again. Best, Anna On Nov 3, 2013, at 7:17 PM, Teresa Cochran vegaspipistre...@gmail.com wrote: Yes, it’s actually quite a mess. Hi, In Settings/Siri, you can designate which contact is yours. If you labeled your address as a home address or you only have one listed, Siri will know it's your home address. A Question About Clearing The Notification Tab area in the Facebook App
Hello All, I posted a comment to Facebook using the Facebook app. A while later, I touched the Facebook icon on the iPhone and it said I had one unread message. I opened the app and selected the Notification tab near the bottom of the screen. I read the notification and then I double-tapped on it. At this point I was taken to the original message complete with the comments. Excellent. Now, the question is how do I clear the notification area in the app? Even though I read the notification, when I close the app and relaunch, the old message is still in the area. I'm very confused. Thank you for any help on this. RE: telling to maps where I live
Hi Pablo, You should name your own contact just with your name, first and last just as you would do with any other contact. Then make sure your home address is entered in the proper format and that it is labeled Home. Now go to Settings, General, SIRI, double tap the My Info button and select your own contact card. Now SIRI will know who you are and will know your phone number, you r address and whatever other information you put in your contact card. For your girl-friend you should do the same thing, make sure you create a contact with her name, phone number, email and address. Now tell SIRI to Call my girl-friend and SIRI will most likely tell you that you have to specify who your girl-friend is, tell SIRI her name, you should be prompted whether SIRI should remember that relationship and from then on it should work. Re: Having trouble with the bbm app
Hi I figured out (or rather let me say my cousin helped me figure out), how to get past the buttons that won't activate. At the bottom at the left of the contacts button, right at the edge of the screen is a tiny button, which is not labelled. VoiceOver still announces it as contacts. If you tap this button, a menu opens which lists each button underneath each other with badges, for instance Chats (4 active chats), contacts (8), Groups (0), updates (4), Invites (0). It's a very small button, and I use split-tapping, because if I lift my finger I might not hit the right spot again. Swiping to it also won't work. Hope it helps. I've noticed that with the chats, contacts and groups button, if you swipe right through the buttons, once you get to invites, and swipe again, VoiceOver says the button names and if you double tap on it there, the button activates. This doesn't always work for invites though. And sometimes, if I'm lucky, I manage to open some kind of menu, which says: Chats (1), contacts )4), etc., and if I tap invites and/or updates from that menu it works. But I don't know what I did to bring the menu up. Double tap and hold didn't do the trick. I did send somebody who I know has a Blackberry a request to add me, but if you want you can send me your Pin and I’ll add you and then I can try it. I asked a sighted friend to look and it says I have x number of contacts but only one contact is displayed. Anyone else having problems with this app?
