Re: hanging up calls from the lock screen

2016-09-08 Thread rajmund

Hi,
Thanks for that, thought it did the same. Thought if you pressed
it once, it silenced, and if press it twice, it hung up, but
clearly, it sends to voice mail. Thanks for that, that's useful
to know. Still, it can work in facetime.

Hi,

I apologize if I got the subject wrong but I already deleted the
previous email.

I just tried the double tap of the power button and it sent my
wife's

test call directly to my voicemail, it did not hang the call up.

Thanks.

RE: Hanging up calls

2015-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Daniel,

Thanks for that tip. Are you low vision and use magnification but not
Voiceover? If not, how do you use this with Voiceover then? The thing is that
as soon as you take the phone away from your ear it switches to speakerphone
and then as you said, pressing the power button just locks the screen. If you
put a finger or hand over the top of the phone it will switch back to earpiece,
but it does so because the proximity sensor is covered which In turn disables
the touch screen and power button.
The only way I could find to make this work is to take the phone away from my
ear, then find the "Speaker" button which shows as selected, if I double tap it
the call will switch to the earpiece but without locking the screen or buttons.
When I now press the power button the call is indeed ended, but in order to get
to this I have to find the speaker button which may even be hidden if the
keypad is on the screen and if I have to find a button to tap on I might as
well just look for the End Call button which is easy to find since it's just
above the home button and it's there even if the keypad is on the screen.
Like I said, if there is a different way please could you explain what steps
you follow?

Sieghard

I forgot to mention it only works if you have the call on earpiece. If it’s on
speaker the phone locks yet the call continues.
Sorry for the confusion.

RE: Hanging up calls

2015-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Daniel,

Your 6S must work differently than mine, if I am on a call, take the phone away
from my ear and then once the call switches to speakerphone press the power
button I just get Voiceover telling me "Screen locked".
I tried pressing it once and I tried pressing it twice quickly, but it
definitely doesn't hang up the call and when the phone is still to my ear,
pressing the power button does absolutely nothing as you pointed out because
it's disabled.

I find a two-finger double tap works well and reliably to hang up calls. You
just have to make sure once you take the phone away from your ear that you
don't do it super quick, give the proximity sensor a moment to make sure the
screen is fully activated again, then make sure your fingers aren't too close
together and do a nice, distinct 2-finger double tap and it should work every
time, just repeat it once if it really doesn't work the first time. You'll know
if it worked because if it does and you repeat you most likely start playback
of whatever it is you had playing last.
Of course if you are using a headset you can simply press the button on the
remote to hang up.

Sieghard

Hi,

At least on he 6S Plus, you can still hang up calls with the power button, but
the phone needs to be away from your ear to do so, since the proximity sensor
prevents the button from being pressed by accident while you’re on a call.

RE: Hanging up calls

2015-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
So just to be clear, you do these steps:
1. You take the phone away from your ear when you are ready to hang up and let
it switch to speakerphone
2. You then find the Speakerphone button and tap it so the call switches back
to earpiece
3. You now press the power button to hang up the call?

What if you are in a noisy environment where it isn't possible to hear
Voiceover when you look for the speakerphone button? Do you use a headset for
those situations?

Hi Robin,

The ability to disconnect a call by pressing the power button while the phone
is still held up to your ear is only possible with the 5S or earlier. I
understand it works on all phones before the 5S.
What Daniel described he is doing on his 6S apparently makes sense to him, but
it doesn't to me since if I have to find the speakerphone button which I then
have to double tap in order to put the call back on the earpiece before I can
then press the power button to hang up the call I might as well just double tap
on the End Call button. For one thing I think it's much easier to find since
it's just above the home key and the other thing is that it is always there
whereas the speakerphone button is hidden if the keypad is on the screen so in
that case I'd first have to find the Hide button for the keypad, double tap it,
then I'd have to find the speakerphone button and double tap it and only then
can I press the power button to hang up.
All these things are highly subjective but I find a well-practiced 2-finger
double tap anywhere on the screen after you take the phone away from your ear
is still the easiest and quickest way to hang up a call and at least in my
experience it works probably 9 out of 10 times.

So, there "appears" to be some fragmentation on Apple's iOS as it pertains to
Hanging Up PhoneCalls on various iterations of Apple's iPhone.

As I understand it from various Postings on this list, only the iPhone5S &
quite possibly the
iPhone6S+ have this capability of Hanging Up
PhoneCalls simply by using the iPhone's PowerButton, is this correct?

How about the iPhone4S? How about the iPhone5? How about the iPhone5C?

Guess the Hanging Up of PhoneCalls isn't as easy
as some of Apple's Experienced iPhone users might
have "us" to beleive is true. It varies from iPhone user.

I don't find it that easy, and feel I am fumbling around sometimes! I'm always
glad when I happen to be using a piece as it makes answering so simple.
However, I do use the flick left method on my 6S which seems to put me in the
right place and it works fairly consistently, if not all the time. I'm not
quite sure, because I don't have that many phone calls. This is worth a try!

Re: Hanging up calls

2015-11-05 Thread Robin
So, there "appears" to be some fragmentation on
Apple's iOS as it pertains to Hanging Up
PhoneCalls on various iterations of Apple's iPhone.

As I understand it from various Postings on this
list, only the iPhone5S & quite possibly the
iPhone6S+ have this capability of Hanging Up
PhoneCalls simply by using the iPhone's PowerButton, is this correct?

How about the iPhone4S? How about the iPhone5? How about the iPhone5C?

Guess the Hanging Up of PhoneCalls isn't as easy
as some of Apple's Experienced iPhone users might
have "us" to beleive is true. It varies from iPhone user.

The following is my own speculation, I have never read or heard this from an
official source. I imagine the reason they did away with the ability to
hang up calls with the power button on the 6 and later is because the power
button is now on the side, rather than the top, making it too easy to hang
up a call by mistake. Although I rarely used it, I wish I still had the
power button option as an option in settings. Being that the two-finger
double tap is not reliable on my 6, I have long since gotten use to double-
or split tapping the end call button, which is on the screen, just above the
home button. I am now enough use to using it that I can hit it even in
noisy environments where I can't hear VoiceOver very well to guide me.

I did a quick search of the archives, and found this thread about
difficulties with hanging up a call. Was wondering if there were
other threads about this as well, or if others have been experiencing
the same issue. I seem to have a lot of difficulty doing a
two-fingered double tap to end a call. It works 100% of the time when
I am pausing or restarting books in the audible app. I've gone
through the practice and never fail for the two-finger tap to
register. I even placed calls from my land line to my cell phone and
attempt to hang up from the cell phone. It fails to hang up most of
the time. I am under know pressure since it is only me on the other
end. I take my time, try various finger positions, various locations,
 but it refuses to disconnect.

So, is it only me and the person who started this thread that are
having this issue? Did the person who started the thread get better
at hanging up or are you still having the issue?

 Thanks.

I can't say I have the problem of hanging up calls all of the time, but, it
does happen to me. There are times when I like to turn voice over when I am
on a call and then turn it back on before I hang up.
Someone sent a tip to another list that I am on. The suggesttion is to keep
the phone by your ear, and then tap the top button on the phone, which is
the power on and off and also locks the screen. Do not move the phone away
from your ear and just tap it for a second. It works like a charm.

I don't have a problem with this. When I take my phone away from my ear,
I wait until the speaker phone kicks in and then I do a two finger
double tap. If you don't want to pull your phone away from your face or
wait until the speaker phone kicks in then just hit the lock button.

Thanks.

Re: Hanging Up Calls

2014-01-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't have a problem with this. When I take my phone away from my ear,
I wait until the speaker phone kicks in and then I do a two finger
double tap. If you don't want to pull your phone away from your face or
wait until the speaker phone kicks in then just hit the lock button.

Thanks.

Re: Hanging Up Calls

2014-01-13 Thread Candy Lowe
I can't say I have the problem of hanging up calls all of the time, but, it
does happen to me. There are times when I like to turn voice over when I am on
a call and then turn it back on before I hang up.
Someone sent a tip to another list that I am on. The suggesttion is to keep
the phone by your ear, and then tap the top button on the phone, which is the
power on and off and also locks the screen. Do not move the phone away from
your ear and just tap it for a second. It works like a charm.

Re: Hanging Up Calls

2013-12-03 Thread Arnold Schmidt
What probably happened when VoiceOver stopped working is that your phone
interpreted whatever you did as a three-finger double tap, which turns speech
off. Just three-finger double tap it, on purpose this time, and it should come
back on. I do wish they would let turning speech off be the three-finger
triple tap, which now toggles screen curtain on and off, and let the
three-finger double tap toggle screen curtain on and off. Having speech turn
off, and not knowing why, caused a few don't know what to do moments when I
first got my phone.

Dear List, today I had difficulties hanging up calls. Voice over went dead.
The end button is usually spoken very low for me but just audible but today
there was nothing. I tried the two finger double tap about eight times with no
joy. I thought that my gestures mayh have been sloppy, but the two finger
double tap to pause audio in podcasts works on the first or second try. In
extremus are there any other methods for hanging up calls? Can you set how much
voice over's volume decreases when a call is initiated? You can't use the
volume rotor if there is no voice feedback. What percentage volume is
recommended before calling to make voice over audible with the decrease in
volume assuming I can get it to go over 25 percent.

For me the rotor bug is not just the 25 percent limit, but also that if you
move it from five percent to ten percent and keep going the same way sometimes
you go back to 5 percent instead of on to 15 percent.

  Many Thanks, Lee

Re: Hanging Up Calls

2013-12-03 Thread David Chittenden
Please do not take this the wrong way.

Double-tap the display with four fingers, or go to settings, general,
accessibility, VoiceOver, practice area, and perform much more practice with
your gestures. You really need to get to the point where you are performing the
gestures you believe you are performing 100% of the time. By your message, it
is clear that this is not currently the case. For instance, when you perform
the single-finger vertical flick to change the volume, or any other flicker,
the choice does not go up and down and up again unless your gestures are not
precise.

The same is true with the two-finger double tap. You state you can get music to
start and stop playing with just a few tries. I get music to start with one try
and to stop with one try, always and every time I perform the command. This is
because I practiced the gestures extensively until I started performing them
100% of the time. Absolutely nothing but lots of practice will correct your
difficulties with the gestures.

When answering and hanging up phone calls, you are most likely holding your two
fingers too close together, so the touchscreen is only able to detect one
finger. Because we become anxious when the gesture does not perform correctly
the first time, the natural reaction is to tense up and cause our fingers to
come even closer together before we try again. When the gesture continues not
working, we do more of the same and get even more anxious.

Remember, the gesture commands do work properly, all of the time, when we
perform the commands properly. Practice, practice, practice, and when you think
you finally have the commands down, practice some more because the first few
times this happens, the chances are you are bored and flustered with the
practicing. Remember, it initially took you a long time with lots of
frustration and many mistakes when you learned to type, and when you learned to
use the computer with the screen reader. This is no different.

Re: Hanging Up Calls

2013-12-03 Thread Alex Hall
David, I am great at these gestures, and get them right just about 100% of the
time as well. I have used iOS successfully for three years, so trust me when I
say: I know what I'm doing. In iOS7.0.4, I have found, on rare occasions, the
two-finger double tap to simply not work. I have had this happen twice in the
past few days: a call is coming in, so I tap two fingers twice, and nothing
happens. I have been sort of monitoring this thread, so both times I
methodically checked my finger position, placement on the screen, tap speed,
and so on, and tried several more times. The gesture simply fails to work every
so often, for no reason I can think of. Like you, I originally figured that
those who were having trouble were just doing it wrong, but I must now say that
there seems to be a bug with this gesture. Unfortunately, it is a rare one, so
is hard to pin down and reproduce, and those are the hardest to fix.

perform the commands properly. Practice, practice, practice, and when you
think you finally have the commands down, practice some more because the
first few times this happens, the chances are you are bored and flustered
with the practicing. Remember, it initially took you a long time with lots of
frustration and many mistakes when you learned to type, and when you learned
to use the computer with the screen reader. This is no different.

Have you reported this, plus your normal skill with gestures, to Apple
Accessibility? Unfortunately, until a cause can be determined, a fix is most
likely not going to occur.

That said, in the original email, the person stated that one, two-finger double
tap starts music in the player usually in a couple attempts, and two, the
single-finger vertical flick up is not consistent - the volume goes up and
down. These two statements point to the conclusion that the author needs more
practice in the practice area.

Double-tap the display with four fingers, or go to settings, general,
accessibility, VoiceOver, practice area, and perform much more practice with
your gestures. You really need to get to the point where you are performing
the gestures you believe you are performing 100% of the time. By your
message, it is clear that this is not currently the case. For instance, when
you perform the single-finger vertical flick to change the volume, or any
other flicker, the choice does not go up and down and up again unless your
 gestures are not precise.

The same is true with the two-finger double tap. You state you can get music
to start and stop playing with just a few tries. I get music to start with
one try and to stop with one try, always and every time I perform the
command. This is because I practiced the gestures extensively until I
started performing them 100% of the time. Absolutely nothing but lots of
practice will correct your difficulties with the gestures.

When answering and hanging up phone calls, you are most likely holding your
two fingers too close together, so the touchscreen is only able to detect
one finger. Because we become anxious when the gesture does not perform
correctly the first time, the natural reaction is to tense up and cause our
fingers to come even closer together before we try again. When the gesture
continues not working, we do more of the same and get even more anxious.

wanted to see if it was a fluke, but I am about to do so now that it has proven
to not be a one-time oddity.

Hi,

To hang up a call, you can also hold the phone to your ear and while doing
so, press the sleep wake button once at the top of the phone.

This will say screen locked and hang up the call.

Hope that helps

Subject: Hanging Up Calls

Dear List, today I had difficulties hanging up calls. Voice over went dead.
The end button is usually spoken very low for me but just audible but today
there was nothing. I tried the two finger double tap about eight times with
no joy. I thought that my gestures mayh have been sloppy, but the two finger
double tap to pause audio in podcasts works on the first or second try. In
extremus are there any other methods for hanging up calls? Can you set how
much voice over's volume decreases when a call is initiated? You can't use
the volume rotor if there is no voice feedback. What percentage volume is
recommended before calling to make voice over audible with the decrease in
volume assuming I can get it to go over 25 percent.

For me the rotor bug is not just the 25 percent limit, but also that if you
move it from five percent to ten percent and keep going the same way
sometimes you go back to 5 percent instead of on to 15 percent.

Many Thanks, Lee
