Maybe that's a 'hidden technique' that Apple won't tell the FBI.

Thanks Alex
As it turns out, we tried and tried and eventually it accepted the information
without the additional email addresses.
So all is good.

Hi Peter

I had all sorts of Apple ID issues recently including a mis-typed email address
that I didn’t even notice when I did it but they were fixed by calling Apple
Support. They were very friendly & helpful & knowledgable to boot.

Re: Apple ID log in

2015-10-26 Thread Brian Risbey
Hi All

I took it back to MacWorx Joondalup, and they 'flashed' the correct serial
number.
iCloud all happy again and updates were able to be completed successfully.
Thank you Ronni for your diagnosis and experience.

Brian

Yes Brian,
I had this happen after a new logic board replaced in my 17-inch MacBook Pro.
Normally the technician changes the serial number to match the new logic board,
but some times they 'forget' to :)
Took it back to MacWorx and they 'flashed' the correct serial number.

You'll need to take it to an Apple Technician, or give Daniel a call he might
have the correct tool to do it for you.

My god the fog is thick down here I can hardly see to drive to my next job.
It was clear before 5am when I started work.

Cheers,
Ronni

Bingo!

Hi Ronni
Yes the serial number is blank.
This is an older 17" MacBookPro and has had various upgrades and repairs over
the last 6 years. Perhaps this is why the serial could be missing.

Re: Apple ID

2014-10-25 Thread John Thompson

Hi Ronni,
Thanks but I have attempted that several times. The problem occurs
when I try to update/upgrade from the App Store. When I click on update, a
screen pops up requesting I ‘Sign in to download from the App Store’. This
screen as where the incorrect Apple ID is already inserted, greyed and
uncorrectable appears. The error is a transposition of two characters in the
first part of my Apple ID and no password is acceptable. When I innate the App
Store or Software Update directly it accepts my correct ID until I attempt to
actually update items. I am unsure how this error occurred, possibly my own
finger troubles typing initially, but there is no record of the incorrect ID in
my Keychain or anywhere else I can find on the computer.

Until this issue is fixed, I can not update or upgrade.

Regards

John

Hi John,

Ok, this sounds like you have purchased Apps using the 'Old' incorrect Apple ID
at some time.
This means apps are associated with your old Apple ID.
If you have downloaded apps from the App Store using your 'Old' Apple ID you
won’t be able to update using the new Apple ID.
All apps are forever tied to the AppleID under which they were purchased.

Go to the link below and follow the instructions and choose Forgot your Apple

Fill in the information in the resulting page and Apple will find it for you
and help you reset your password.

If not successful you might need to contact Apple Support to sort this out.

Re: Apple ID

2014-09-23 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi John,
Good to hear that all is working as normal again. When making any changes to
your Apple ID / iCloud ID - people must read and follow the correct order in
Apple's Online Support Instructions. The same applies to when you change to a
new computer.
And Yes, 1Password is a brilliant (must have) program.

It's not so much 'Bugs' in iOS 8, it is the changes in iOS 8... and there are 5
major iOS 8 features that you can’t even use yet.

1. iCloud Drive - is available to all iOS 8 and Yosemite users. However,
activating iCloud Drive right away, before Yosemite comes out, will mean you
won’t be able to really take advantage of it when it comes to transferring
files or syncing some apps that rely on iCloud functionality – and many app
developers have warned users not to move to iCloud Drive just yet.

2. Handoff (Continuity) - only works either 'iOS 8 to iOS 8' or 'iOS 8 to
Yosemite'

3. Health and Healthkit - Apple have encountered some HealthKit issues, which
prompted it to remove apps using HealthKit from the App Store until a fix is
found.

4. HomeKit - Apple is also focusing on a connected home in iOS 8. However,
while developers are likely to include HomeKit functionality in various apps,
you won’t have a dedicated app for your home inside iOS 8, and you won’t feel
this functionality is even present unless you actively search for
HomeKit-enabled apps and connected home devices.

5. Apply Pay - will only be available in October, following as iOS 8 update
that’ll fix all these “issues”, and only on iPhone 6 iPhone 6 Plus at first.
Other phones will join in 2015, once the Apple Watch launches - obviously only
when connected to an Apple Watch.

Cheers,
Ronni

Apple ID: What to do after you change your Apple ID
 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796

For iCloud on an iOS device it recommends the following:
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings iCloud.

If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID
 to sign in.
The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.

If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm
that you want to delete data from your device.

To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone
turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.)
The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in.
The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.

Re: Apple ID

2014-09-22 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi John,

I surmise you no longer have access to your old email address?
Are you using iOS 7

The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great follow-up information
for once you've changed your Apple ID:

Apple ID: What to do after you change your Apple ID
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796

For iCloud on an iOS device it recommends the following:
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings iCloud.

If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to
sign in.
The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.

If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that
you want to delete data from your device.

To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned
on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the
password, then tap Turn Off.)
The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in.
The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Ronni,
Many thanks for getting back on this one. You are correct, I no longer
have access to the old email address but will try to work through your
suggestions. Up to now I have had no success but will keep trying. I am
currently using iOS 7 and will not be in a hurry to upgrade to 8 at this time.

I had a similar experience on Saturday when buying something from the Apple
Shop at Garden City. The chap in the blue T-shirt talked me into downloading
the Apple Store App onto my iPhone, claiming it would make life easier for
future visits and I wouldn't even have to bother anyone when making a purchase.
The App downloaded fine, but when it came to the point of actually buying
something, it insisted I change my iTunes Store password (the password I had
just used to download it!). When I started down that road and got into the
twenty questions nonsense we called it quits and just used the store system
anyway. When I arrived home I checked everything and found my current password
to be still intact.

There's an underlying software issue at play here, not an Apple ID issue. I
only hope they sort it out. If I'm able to use their App, fine, but I'm not
going to lose any sleep over it. I just hope they're not causing people to rush
around changing IDs and passwords needlessly.

Hi Diana

Sounds like you've had some fun with AppleID's. They can be a bit of work
sometimes ;)
First thing I'd probably start with is looking on each device and see what
AppleID is being used where for the AppleStore. Then if need be, once you have
them listed you could sign out of the different ID's and sign in with the
combined one. (You wouldn't need to do iCloud, as you do want those using
different IDs).
Once you have them listed, then yes, you should be able to log out/ in and
change or adjust them to make them one again.

Hope that helps.
(If you still get stuck, then I'm happy to have a look at it as well if easier).

Kind regards

Have you recently upgraded to Maveriks?
Have you checked the Sharing pane of System Preferences?
What does your computer name show as?
If it is iMac 13,1 then you have not been compromised.

Worth a look, it might explain the email.

Re: Apple ID compromised

2013-10-24 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Stephen

You can check the details the following way,..
Computer Name can be found from Apple menu - System Preferences - Sharing. It
will then show Computer Name.

To see the Model Identifier. Go to Apple menu - About this Mac. Click on
More Info... (or System Profiler…. for older OSes). Then click System
Report…
Under Hardware Overview, on the right hand side it will show Model Identifier
and be something like iMacx,x for the iMac range (e.g. iMac13,1)

Hope that helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Re: Apple Id

2012-12-12 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Chris,

If your wife used your Apple ID (email password) to make any purchases, those
purchases will always be linked to your account and that cannot be changed. The
purchased apps are tied to the Apple ID which she was logged in with, at the
time of the purchases.
You cannot merge Apple IDs nor can you transfer content from one ID to the
other.

It sounds like you both have been using the ONE Apple ID... Your Apple ID?
You have mentioned below that you have now changed the password on this Apple
ID?
If so you will need to change it back to what it was when the purchases were
made.

If your Wife does NOT already have an Apple ID she needs to Create an
Apple ID at the link I supplied previously:
 https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

Then she can sign out of the Apple ID on her iPhone (the ID with your email
address password) and sign in with her newly created Apple ID and password.
Follow the instructions in my original A) and B) at the bottom of this email.

Yes, the lightning show was spectacular, and you are not the first person to
ask if I took any photos ;-)) unfortunately I didn't, I wish I had!

If you forgot your password, you can easily recover or reset it using the

For security reasons, Apple cannot reset your password for you.

cant use mine until she changes hers would that be correct?

Since I had originally created her ID using my email, could I go in and
create a new one with her email and password or would I have to do that
with her iphone (she is still at work)? If I cant use my iphone, could I
 use her mac laptop?

I wont even go to the Apple store until I sort this big mess out!!

Thanks heaps for your advice Ronni...I guess Im almost got it sussed

Hi Ronni

My apologies for not getting back to you on this Apple Id but I have been so
busy and had no need to go to the apple store.

I have just attempted to change my ID on my iphone using the settings approach.
Unfortunately it wont let me as it says my email is already in use as an Apple
Id (its mine). I have changed the password but it cant continue with this email
and that is the one I use? Not sure if I should just cancel and start again?

In answer to your original questions, Cath did not already have an apple id
until I went through process I mentioned to create one.

Neither of us use iCloud

Many thanks for any advice

Thankyou very much for your help on this.

As Cath doesnt rarely does online activity with her phone, she was surprised
when she tapped the App store icon that showed several updates to a number
of apps. When she tapped to update the Apple Id loggin appeared and she
noticed it had my email as the user name as I had mentioned.

Sounds like the Apps were purchased using your Apple ID and synced via your
 iTunes Library, is that correct?

She wants to put in her email address as her Apple Id then choose a
password. That would be better as then my email and password would remain
 for my iphone, ipad etc.

Your wife needs her own Apple ID.

Should I get her to follow your instructions to change her complete apple id
and password for her iphone using her laptop at the apple page you mention?

Some facts to consider before giving a solution:

   • An Apple ID is linked to each iTunes account.
   • An iOS device can have apps on it from any number of iTunes accounts
   • A device can only sync with one iTunes library at a time.
   • Syncing a device with a new iTunes library disassociates it from the
previous library (and deletes the media synced from the previous library from
 the device).
   • iCloud accounts store contacts, schedules and email and have little
to do with your iTunes content.
You probably want separate iCloud accounts unless your wife wants to get
reminders for your appointments and vice versa.
Given this information, there are a couple of solutions.

 Solution 1:

You and your wife use separate iTunes accounts with separate iTunes
 Libraries, on two different computers.

Here, you each keep your stuff separate, but you can authorize her iTunes
library to use media from your account and vice versa.
 See Apple knowledgebase article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

You still will want different iCloud accounts (if you are using iCloud).

 Solution 2:

You use separate iTunes libraries, separate iTunes accounts, but your wife
can sign into your iTunes account in the App Store app on her iPhone and
download any of your previous purchases.

From Apple knowledgebase article ht1311: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311

The account ID that was synced to the device is displayed at the bottom of
each page [in the App Store or iTunes apps], so you'll always know what
account you are using on the device.

Simply open iTunes or the App Store on your iOS device and scroll to the
bottom of any page to see which account is currently in use.
You can also see this in Settings under the Store option.

 I would recommend Solution 1:
Then you each have your own Apple ID's, your own iTunes Libraries, Media,
 Books, Apps etc.

I would most definitely recommend using two separate Apple ID's for iCloud
 syncing.
While you can have multiple devices attached to a single Apple ID (as you do
with your iPhone and iPad), all of the same information will be pushed to all
devices, meaning you would not have the ability to maintain discrete
 contacts, calendars, bookmarks, etc.

Apple ID's in general, and for iCloud use in particular, are really designed
 to be single user identifiers.

The good news is that using two separate iCloud ID's does not prohibit you
and your wife, from still sharing App Store purchases.
iOS devices maintain separate login information for iCloud syncing, App Store
 and iTunes account info.

So if you decide to go with Solution 1:

 A) If your Wife does NOT already have an Apple ID she needs to Create an
Apple ID at the link I supplied previously:
 https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

 B) If she already DOES have an Apple ID (but her iPhone is showing your Apple
ID, as your email address is showing.
 1. On her iPhone Go to: Settings iTunes App Stores tap the Apple ID shown
 2. Sign out.
 3. Sign back

I agree with everything Daniel has mentioned below (I don't think I

I purchased both iPodRip (now iRip) years ago also Senuti. Both
are good at what they do.

What I like about iRip, as well as its clear interface, is that it
can also transfer iBooks (which of course will not concern your
daughter with her iPod transfer), but this is handy for transferring
 from an iPad.

Senuti has a more simple interface but does work well, but I don't

I haven't used either app for a long time, but that is what I

iRip can be downloaded from here

Senuti can be downloaded from here

 Hopefully later this morning.

A few questions for you to answer please:

What OS X is the new iMac running OS X 10.? 10.6.8
 What version of iTunes 10.?, 9.?10.6.1 (7)
Is the NEW iTunes Library Empty? NO
If not what does it have in it? Just music or Books etc iTunes
Store purchases?Music, 1 movie - incs iTunes Store purchases,
some music purchased from JB etc

Does the iPod only have Music on it? YES + 1 (?) video
 (video not important)
Or does it have photos as well? NO
Is there any iTunes Purchased music (Apple's DRM) songs which need to
be authorised for every Mac they're played on?Prob only this
Mac. Not sure what Apple's DRM means?

I'll get back to you after your reply to my questions and as soon as
 I possibly am able to.

Hi Alex,

I'm pleased all went well and you and your daughter are happy again :)

I agree with everything Daniel has mentioned below (I don't think I have ever
disagreed with Daniel's advise).
I purchased both iPodRip (now iRip) years ago also Senuti. Both are good at
what they do.

What I like about iRip, as well as its clear interface, is that it can also
transfer iBooks (which of course will not concern your daughter with her iPod
transfer), but this is handy for transferring from an iPad.

Senuti has a more simple interface but does work well, but I don't think it has
the ability to transfer iBooks.
I haven't used either app for a long time, but that is what I remember.

Cheers,
Ronni

 Hi Alex

You can't do it from within iTunes, as it would be bypass Apple's DRM (as
 Ronni mentioned).
Basically to get iTunes off the ground years ago, Apple had to work around
things to get the music companies on board (lng story which I won't go
 into).
To do that, they had to lock what the iPod could do, and the way music
could go. i.e. it can only go from iTunes to iPod and not the other way. This
was to stop people taking their music they bough and ripping it back to
someone else's music collection and vice versa. (hey, you buy $100 worth of
music, I buy $100 worth of music. We rip it to each other collection and have
$200 of music). I'm not saying everyone would do this, i'm just using this as
an example to help explain it :o)
(And not implying you would either, just trying to show why it's done that
 way).

The way around it to get back music that is yours, is to use either of a
program called iRip (used to be called iPodRip but they got asked to change
their name) or Senuti (which is iTunes spelt backwards,..get
it,..backwards,..like taking your music backwards from your iPod to iTunes.
 Clever eh!) :o)

iRip can be downloaded from here
 http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/

Senuti can be downloaded from here
 http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

Neither program is free but they do let you try it to see if it's going to do
 what you want.

I've used iRip a few times for clients who've lost music on their main
machine but it's still on their iPod and they need to get it back. I've found
it works really well and bought it years ago. Actually I really like a lot of
the apps from The Little App Factory, they make some great stuff.

 Hope that info helps!

6. Connect the iPod

If you want to keep the music library on your iPod, but copy songs or playlists

It is normal for your device to take a few seconds to change from Automatic
Mode to Manual Mode.

When in Manual Mode, to add songs or playlists, drag them from iTunes to the
iPod icon in the sidebar.

To remove songs or playlists, select them on the iPod in iTunes and press the
delete key.
You can also create playlists directly on the iPod.

Let me know how you get on please.

Hi Chris,

You have not mentioned if you wife already has an Apple ID, or if you are both
using iCloud / iCloud syncing.

My comments are below In Situ.

Sounds like the Apps were purchased using your Apple ID and synced via your
iTunes Library, is that correct?

She wants to put in her email address as her Apple Id then choose a password.
That would be better as then my email and password would remain for my
 iphone, ipad etc.

Solution 1:

You and your wife use separate iTunes accounts with separate iTunes Libraries,
on two different computers.

Here, you each keep your stuff separate, but you can authorize her iTunes
library to use media from your account and vice versa.
See Apple knowledgebase article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

You still will want different iCloud accounts (if you are using iCloud).

Solution 2:

You use separate iTunes libraries, separate iTunes accounts, but your wife can
sign into your iTunes account in the App Store app on her iPhone and download
any of your previous purchases.

From Apple knowledgebase article ht1311: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311

The account ID that was synced to the device is displayed at the bottom of
each page [in the App Store or iTunes apps], so you'll always know what account
you are using on the device.

Simply open iTunes or the App Store on your iOS device and scroll to the bottom
of any page to see which account is currently in use.
You can also see this in Settings under the Store option.

I would recommend Solution 1:
Then you each have your own Apple ID's, your own iTunes Libraries, Media,
Books, Apps etc.

I would most definitely recommend using two separate Apple ID's for iCloud
syncing.
While you can have multiple devices attached to a single Apple ID (as you do
with your iPhone and iPad), all of the same information will be pushed to all
devices, meaning you would not have the ability to maintain discrete contacts,
calendars, bookmarks, etc.

Apple ID's in general, and for iCloud use in particular, are really designed to
be single user identifiers.

The good news is that using two separate iCloud ID's does not prohibit you and
your wife, from still sharing App Store purchases.
iOS devices maintain separate login information for iCloud syncing, App Store
and iTunes account info.

So if you decide to go with Solution 1:

A) If your Wife does NOT already have an Apple ID she needs to Create an Apple
ID at the link I supplied previously:
https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

B) If she already DOES have an Apple ID (but her iPhone is showing your Apple
ID, as your email address is showing.
1. On her iPhone Go to: Settings iTunes App Stores tap the Apple ID shown
2. Sign out.
3. Sign back IN with her Apple ID or her NEW Apple ID (if she has created a new
Apple ID in A)

Hope what I've written above is clear and helpful to you.

 Thanks heaps Ronni

You're welcome Chris.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Apple ID passwords

2006-01-17 Thread Mark Secker
the link is kosher (or at least matches password resets that I've
done) so without knowing what your apple ID is and if it's close to
some one else's it's most probably a result of some one with a very
similar apple ID mistaking your ID as their's and having failed to
login with their password have requested a password reset which
of course has gone to you at your designated e-mail address.

as you didn't ate

Just received the following email from [EMAIL PROTECTED], it is as
received, except for the actual key in the link.

I have not requested a reset of the password or even been in my
Apple account section for some time so I assume someone has entered
my user name by mistake.

Probably no harm can be done but with the scams that are about I
though I would just ask if anybody is familiar with the way Apple
deals with there password resets.

Thanks

Re: Apple ID passwords

2006-01-17 Thread Derek Y-E

Hi WAMUG folks.

While the email links might APPEAR to be legit, remember that the URL
that you see in your email message body (e.g. https://
iforgot.apple.com ) is JUST the text that is displayed in the body of
the email; it's just text for 'display' purposes.

If you actually click on such a link, you are not necessarily taken
to the visible link in the message body. Instead, you will most
likely be taken to a third party's site, that isn't listed in the
visible message body.

To check where it's really going, view the 'Message Source' of the
original suspect message. E.g. View - Message - Raw source, if
you're using the Mail app. There are similar options for other mail
programs.

That should reveal the first actual URL you would really be taken to,
if you click on the link provided in the email. And from there, the
first site might take you to a second site etc.

So, if something looks suspicious, such as this, it most likely is.

Cheers,
Derek

This is a typical way for a con artist to get your password .

If you have not been in to apple recently there is no need for them to
be sending you

an email about your password. Chances are that this is a scam .

If you want to check out your password ,
in a fresh browser window you type in from your keyboard an apple
address that you know ,

NOT the one shown in that email .
