Does anybody have any reason to believe that this (seemingly new) USB
interface will work with ALSA? The specs look pretty good and the price
does also. I'm considering this instead of PCI interfaces since I might be
forced into a long term relationship with a laptop soon.

use the OPL3 midi port to get midi sound, but I haven't been able to get
this to work. Your best bet is to use timidity. Get a recent version that

At a minimum, you need to use sbiload (found in the alsa/tools/seq
directory) to load the sound definitions. You can find instructions here:

You can try two things: remove config.cache and try again. If that doesn't
work, look at config.log and find where the error message is generated. It
should show you why it thinks you don't have libasound.

I don't know anything about your card, but if it's not an isapnp card then
that might be your problem. Reconfigure and add '--with-isapnp=no'. The
only appearance in alsa drivers of the init_module routine is for isapnp
initialization. If your card is isapnp, then disregard.

I don't have a snd-mixer loaded (only snd-mixer-oss) and my native alsa
mixers all work fine (gamix, alsamixer, amixer). I think the problem your

Make sure you unmute and boost volume for master and pcm. They both have
to be up for the yamaha chip to work. I find that gamix is a very nice and
easy mixer to use, but alsamixer will do fine, just a little bit harder.
