Another thing - it is probably best to buy the units without the
optional speakers and get some better ones from other manufacturers.
They will cost more, but will give you a better sound.

I'm sorry I can't comment, as the Transporter wasn't available when I
ordered the SB+. In any case I don't need the additional features that
the Transporter provides over and above the SB2 or 3.

No secret afaik, it's £800 for the SB+ with digital output only,
and £1000 for the SB+ with analogue and digital outputs.

Up until recently I've been 'seduced' by the SB2+ but now I am also
considering the Transporter. Both look great although the Transporter
is £300 more and has more features, but for me it's the sound that is
more important.

Prices are complete - you don't start with a squeeze box and have it
modified, you just buy the whole thing.

I've heard white noise only once or twice, and
disconnecting/reconnecting the power seemed to fix it. Did you try
that?
You might also try plugging the SB3 into a different outlet than the
amps to see if that helps, maybe run an extension cord just to

linear power supply, and getting some reasonably-priced cables to
replace what comes with the Denon. I don't think too many people would
disagree that the speaker cables that come with the HT receiver aren't
going to cut

colour jobby like the ones on an ipod video... just sufficient to show
a couple of thumbnails of your album cover. That would be more

and a Luxman L-430 integrated amp. Anyway, I have decided to retire the
amp and am looking for a good replacement.
Originally i was looking at a DIY KT-88 based PP amp, but I just don't
think it will drive these speakers
I just don't understand the whole Sonos remote-envy thing.
With Slim, a palm PC, tablet PC, or just a small laptop are imo
superior to the limited abilities of any remote. I mean, you get the
whole enchilada web interface with all the capabilities of the Slim
software. What's the big deal

Can be purchased online. There are a bunch of threads here that
recommend sources. (Search on Elpac or power supply should turn
sources up).
They generally run about $40. It's possible the only ones still
available (the company apparently discontinued them) will need to have
the connector

Have you tried comparing the northstar (with transporter disconnected)
to the transporter (with the northstar disconnected).
It could be that the tact aren't happy with two units connected at trhe
same time...

You have two choices. Build a dedicated linux slimserver or use the
Buffalo as your slimserver (I'm not suggesting Windows as it seems that

that connecting the ground of the SB to the ground of the TACT is
basically what makes the difference (ie the normal SPDIF ground
connection doesn't do the job)?

A bit more detail on the differences I'm hearing:
The best way to sum up the improvement is simply: way more musical and
natural sounding. I didn't even realize that my system had an element
of harshness/digititis to it that made listening somewhat wearying,
until I plugged in the modded power
