Okies...I think its because of the subject line.
Probably thought I was spamming about new computer parts being available
*grin*
It gets annoying sometimes how you have to watch out for your subject

Also got a USB2.0 PCI card for my office PC, for use with the external

I don't get any display on the monitor.

Try finding the clear CMOS jumper on the board and do that. Then try
booting again.

No..no beeps.
There is a 4 LED cluster on a bracket in the back that gives you
indications of whats happening.
And that one is indicating that the board is getting as far as Early
Chipset Initialisation and then just sticking there.

Well the CPU is in tight...there is a HUGE rentention clip spring
mechanism pressing the fan assembly etc. to the CPU.
So...if its in that tight and not 'seated' right its totally fried. And
I smelt no smoke or anything. THere's only one way these CPUs can go in

I took the memory out, and it still stops at chipset initialisation, but
gives me three 1 second beeps every two seconds now.
So that's new. But other than that..nothing.
So perhaps its the memory?
No, not the memory. The three beeps are the code for bad or missing memory,
and since you
Okay, so it's definitely not posting. It could have been that it was posting

Hmm...I haven't fudged with the graphics card yet.
Let me pull that out and see what happens.
The board does not have onboard video. It needs an external video card.
This is the board:

Try unplugging all ATAPI and IDE drives if you haven't already. When
the ribbon connector is not seated correctly you will get similar
results (or lack thereof) to what you are getting.

Wow. Nice components for a new system.
I don't have any advice on the OS thing but would REALLY like to know
how fast you can overclock that processor.
With MSI's boards, you can do this pretty easily through the BIOS. Also,

You may have to upgrade your power supply also.
I know going from something like P3 1.2 GHz to P4 3.0Ghz, you need a new

DDR is not the same as dual channel. It's really a question of the mobo, not
the ram. I don't know for sure about this mobo, but IIRC the server K8T800
support dual channel while the desktop mobos are single-channel. Double
check with MSI though for your board.
I'm personally not a fan of OCZ. In
An extra 5v connector. Some P4 mobos need it, others don't. Having it is
supposed to provide a little extra stability.

My experience / advice...
Don't upgrade to XP from 2000.Everything was horrendously buggy.Minor
issues such as couldn't get Enterprise Manager to work, or Navigator to

Back up everything before starting.Do the hardware upgrade.Get

Some of them are pretty tough. They can take a bit of effort. As far as I

I guess I have to be thankful the motherboard is advanced enough that I
get some indication of the problem. :)

There should be convertors! Some sort ofthingy you plug into a
