Hello All,
I just purchased a 3810 to practice some Voice labs. I was hoping someone
could answer a quick question for me.
The 3810 I'm getting has 32 MB of RAM - Is this enough to run the 3810 as a
VoIP GW ? Can someone give me some insight in regards to setting up the 3810
to support VoIP ?
Can LAN to LAN VPN be possible by having a PIX 510 at the corporate office

has VPN concentrator with T1 circuitBranch 3 has PIX with DSL CircuitBranch
4 has Router with DSL Circuit or all the branches should have the PIX

I must admit that I only quickly scanned your post the first time and

The IP OSPF MTU-IGNORE command (IOS 12.1(3))is a drastic measure for rare
occasions, but Cisco IOS does not allow changes to the physical MTU size, so

John,
It will be half duplex unless it has been configured for full duplex.
Setting an ethernet interface to full duplex is done in software and
requires a recent IOS. I have forgotten the minimum rev required but I know
12.2.3 will work.

Cisco sells a 16M and a 24M version of the removable flash, can you use a

You're right about giving an example of a question, but wouldn't the test's
emphasis on one topic or another depend on what questions the candidate

The MC3810 requires 64MB of RAM to run a VoIP feature set. You'll also
almost certainly need 16MB of flash as well. To support the 64MB of RAM,
you'll have to also get an updated BootROM. Those are free from Cisco's
1-800 line - part number BOOT-381V=. And of course, once you have all of

Sure.. To really get into this, you need to dig into graph theory and
the use of various algorithms to calculate minimal spanning trees (or
shortest spanning trees etc). Doing this will help you understand much
more than STP as used in 802.1D, but also most routing protocols as
well.
Does anybody have a good understanding (or better yet, a good URL) for when
and how to apply pad and gain to a voip configuration? I looked through the
Cisco website, but didn't find what I was looking for. Thanks.

Maybe I was not clear about the problem. SW1 is the root for all Vlans.
SW3 is the designated bridge for the link between SW2 and SW3. So, I
expected port fa0/24 of SW2 be blocked for all Vlans. But it was
forwarding for Vlan 1 and blocking for the others.
After erased the configuration, reset
Peter, if allow me to say so, your job is really nice. I understand that
and it is the reason I said I have a strange behavior. SW2 should be
blocking on interface fast0/24 for all Vlans.
After the erase configuration, the reset and the configuration again, it
result in the expected behavior.
Yes, I know it. SW1 is the root and all port are forwarding for all Vlans.
The problem was is por 0/24 of SW2. It was not the root port or the
designated bridge, but the state of por 0/24 for Vlan 1 was forwarding.
For the other Vlans it was blocking, as expected.

I think the 2500 series uses the AUI port for Ethernet, so I think
this is why the hardware doesn't support 100/full. I guess they had to make
sacrifices for flexibility that, in hindsight, probably weren't necessary.
