I would use another TFTP program. I started off using the Cisco TFTP server
and then started running into large problems when upgrading 3660's. Timeouts
and errors etc. I changed to use pumpkin (freeware) and things have never
been better. The same copy that failed previously works great done
try the pumpkin tftp server from klever..

It is possible if you give the user a privilege level etc..
So first you create a privelege level.. say 7 and allow the user to do a
copy run tftp i.e
privilege exec level 7 copy running-config tftp
username test privilege 7 password test
and that should allow them
:)

Well, that's basically how TFTP works on Unix-style systems. You have to
first create the file (i.e., 'touch cisco-confg'), then give everyone
write permissions to it (i.e., 'chmod 666 cisco-confg') before it can be
written by the TFTP server. As far as I know, there's no way to
circumvent that
I agree - Pumpkin.
Every one of our engineers use it now and never heard of a problem.
Also supports multiple simultaneous TFTP - not sure if this is a feature of
others or not. don't suppose it's that much of a selling point, but the
reliability is.

You should add the following line to your config:
no service config
Otherwise the router will try to automatically load its config from a
server. If the router SLARPed (got its IP address from the other end), it
tends to do service config even if you never told it to.

The version of TFTPd that ships with RH7 doesn't work right. You need a
newer or older version.
Note if you start the TFTPd with -c switch it will allow the creation of new

tform does not support relocatable

this may be a little late, but if you are using Cisco TFTP Server try unchecking "show
file transfer progress" and "enable logging" from options.

Had the same problem a while back. I ended up connecting my laptop directly
to the router using a crossover and did it that way.

Charles,
I know this sounds dumb, but I have caught myself trying to TFTP something
from a router to my computer when the TFTP server software hasn't even been
launched. The router would the generate the timeout message you were
getting. After you launch the TFTP sw you can just minimize it.
Can you ping the router from the workstation and vice versa? If so make sure
the tftp server is started and try copy flash tftp.

There is a cool little tftp client/server program for windows called
Pumpkin. I grabbed it off of tucows. I'm not sure if there's a CE version,
but it's worth looking into. The footprint is tiny.

Hi all:
Thanks for your reply.
Both TFTP server`s IP address and the Router`s are in the same subnet.
I can not ping the router`s fastethernet IP from TFTP server.
