So my “charter” is up and I now officially own Masquerade. Now I have to
document her. How difficult is the process to do yourself? Any tips or advice
would be much appreciated.
I could use a service but the president of our local service has always been
pretty miserable to deal with so I don’t

Can you find them? Yes. That’s how I got my Baltic 47. Check the Mass Maritime

If you buy a donated boat, prepare to roll up your sleeves and do some serious
work on it.

When I switch my head to use fresh water, the flow is supplied by my regular
fresh water pump. I can see no reason not to plumb it that way. Most boats
follow suit. There is no way effluent could get into the FW system.

Dennis, either that or just set her up by the lee and boogie with the weather
rail awash! :)
We actually went wing and wing by the lee for a couple of miles with the
asymmetric kite on the Baltic 47 in a windy race last summer. But Masquerade is
post IOR and a lot easier to keep on the edge wit
Sounds like what we used to call a “Chicken chute,” Bruno.
A heavy air kite should be narrower at the top and flatter than than your
regular kite... do hoist it all the way up or you will find it will oscillate
more and steer the boat for you...perhaps in directions you don’t want to go!

On any professionally run boat you’ll find vinegar and water 50/50 mix is used
for wiping down any interior varnished surfaces. It is the best for getting rid
of fingerprints, etc. and doesn’t wreck the finish as cleaners like 409 will.

Someone is trying to start a fight! :)
The 40 is certainly and objectively the best looking of all the C&Cs.

I had mine inspected and some reheaded about five years ago on my 1981 40. We
had to replace the D3/V2 because when it was reheaded the fitting where it went
around the spreader would have been in a different place. I think we replaced
some turnbuckles, too. Just did something similar with my 19
Charles, what sources are you using for the C May bridges? NOAA charts list
them as 55’ at high water.

I did the entire ICW from Norfolk to Ft Lauderdale in November. Some of the
supposed 65’ bridges only showed 62’ on the gauges. The one in C May is a 55’
clearance at high tide, I believe. That canal is a nice short cut rather than
going out and around the cape. In case anyone is curious, I take

I think the tall rig on the 40 is fine for the ICW.
I loved that boat. She gave me few excuses to use the engine, even in light
airs if I looked at her sideways she was doing 5 knots. And she'd point like

Me too. My second boat is a Herreshoff 12 1/2. Oh wait, that’s a sailboat. But
I do have a Cape Dory 14, oh wait...
I guess I *am* totally without sin...in that regard, anyway.
