My Squeezebox has been working fine for months since I installed a new
PC under Vista Home Premium with an existing Netgear WGR614. Now, all
of a sudden, the Squeezebox cannot connect to SlimServer. I
re-installed SlimServer (v6.5.4)and reinitiated the Squeezebox, which

Reading elsewhere on this forum I came across Robert who had the exact
same symptoms. Turned out you need to completely remove Zone Alarm
firewall not just shut it down. It seems Slimserver service has an
issue with the Truevector Zone alarm

Vista has many problems, but, interestingly, Windows Server 2008, which
shares some of the same code, is a super operating system.
We have been running Server 2008 since April 2007. It is ultra stable.
We have not had a single BSOD or any other major problems with this
operating system.

You need to add "slim.exe" usually in C:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\ to the Windows Vista firewall exceptions
rather than opening a specific port.

switched off the socket the Homeplug network widget was plugged into

Just wanted to say, although I still can't get Defender to allow
Slimserver to automatically run on a restart, once I go into Defender
after getting to my desktop and let it go, it launches - running -
almost instantly. Before it would take about 15 seconds to initialize,

Yup It seems Like SD finally figured it out with 6.5.2. I installed
the beta release a couple days ago and BINGO... all is working... Of
course they still have not figured out how to get Slim Server to start

Did you read my message (#48) in this thread? If you chose the Vista
default installation of user with administrative privileges, I suggest
you uninstall and reinstall, and then use the workaround I explained.
If there is anything you don't understand, please post a more detailed
question.

Vista Ultimate 32-bit
SlimServer 6.5.1
I only get the tray-bar icon. When I select start Slimserver nothing
happens. I have no idea what I should do. I have recently gone from
wireless to wire. I diden´t use Vista on my other computer, wich was an
laptop, thereby the wireless.
Can someone help
