doesn't need to be on in the first place.
The only band I have found the K3 preamp useful on is 6 metres. But that
probably has more to do with the noise level I have here than the K3
off the AGC so you will not see any S meter movement until the signal

ugh if you want a fair comparison, I suppose you should multiply the
bandwidth used by the time factor needed to convey the same information.
There aren't many CW ops who can send as fast as they can speak. :)

other radio would do any better, though. With many radios you have to keep
the drive below the ALC threshold so you are completely at the mercy of the
sound card frequency response and the TX filter ripple.

option, clicking Start sending and typing slowly. PSK D appears to have the
same problem. The transmission doesn't change to a single tone, but there is
a delay of a couple of seconds before the next character is sent. This is
with the last beta version sent to registered beta te
tracking the
frequency(ies) you are using? The K3 provides all the information software
needs to know if it is working split and what the VFO B frequency is, but
the software still needs to ask for that information and use it.

, on the tab where you can set the baud rate etc. there is a
button marked Advanced Settings. Unfortunately when I clicked it a message
came up something like "you need write access to the registry to change
these settings" so I couldn't see what these settings were. You might be

switch bands as appropriate. However I would have thought the
clicking of relays as the radio switches from band to band would discourage
anyone from actually scanning a set of memories in different bands.

in a command window that should turn RTS and DTR off. So if you could put
that command into whatever the Windows XP equivalent of autoexec.bat is
(assuming there is one) that should solve the problem.

I have never used VOX. Why would you need to? If you have a fully wired
serial cable between the K3 and PC then just set WSJT to use that COM port
and in the K3 menu configure PTT to use RTS.

If it isn't that, then it might be due to the use of a USB to serial
adapter. Real serial ports tend to be quieter. Some have found that it is
important to have continuity through the cable shielding from the K2 right
through to the computer
e information that might be helpful.

There are also versions for Linux and Mac OS that can create executables for
those platforms from the same source code. It's what I use to create KComm.

I haven't looked at this particular mod yet since I don't have a need for it
but I assume, as with the other mod, that the replacement resistor can be a
leaded one if you find that easier.

rst. Is that going to be possible?
If so, then it seems as if all of my main annoyances with the K3 are going
to be addressed very soon. :) It's just a pity that one has to brave so much
flak in order to get this information. :(

involving third party computer software
that was suggested early in this thread, which doesn't seem to me an
acceptable solution to something even my FT-817 can manage.
Anyway, thank you for your reply, Jim. You've convinced me that the K3 isn't
the right radio for me and
more of
your bandwidth.

use TX and RX EQ (and specifically the SAME TX and RX EQ selected for
optimum SSB transmission and reception) in data modes. Or was that meant to
be just another smart put-down?

I do, however, understand how you may dislike your mailbox filling up with
