Are you operating that serial port at 4800 bps? You could improve

Then follow the instructions in the K3 Utility help file to force a K3
firmware load. You must unplug the power from the K3, not just cycle
with the power button.

I used it the other day when I had a cheap headset with no PTT button
and was mobile (parked).

Yes, Don Argo is very responsive--love MacLoggerDX. I'd also have to mention
John Henry
at Ten Tec for is his great firmware support with the Omni VII.
I can't wait to get my K3 so I can fully appreciate Wayne and the super
service he and Elecraft provide. But it will be months unfortunately.
For the first time in my radio career, I have a fast internet connection
co-located with my rig. I just used the K3 updater to install the current
firmware and the process was amazingly smooth and fast. The software
checked for an update, found one, downloaded it and then sent it to the rig.

* TUNE POWER level menu entry added (TUN PWR). This determines the
power level used
when the TUNE switch is pressed. The default, "NO
.g., CONFIG:FLx BW).
To use the FIR (new) filters, tap '7' until you see
"IIR OFF". This is now the default for newly-shipped
K3s.
