I read in the Linux Pocketbook that /etc is for miscellaneous files.
It's only for config files isn't it? Does anyone know the significance of the name
/etc (why not /config?)?

It should work, I believe, hoping that you can disable your onboard
vga. If not, and if nvidia drivers uses your onboard as default, you
will be able to fix it by adding a line PCI 2:0:0 or something like
that to your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and you will force it to use
check out the current cooker distribution. There have
been some big changes to the mandrake configuration tools, and i believe
they also have a scannerdrake tool now.

Currently, X uses kdm as the login manager, however i would like to
experiment with gdm/xdm, so could some kind soul please tell me how i

I get that same error. Then later in the boot up process I see all my
i2c modules getting loaded. Take a look at dmesg and lsmod and see
if it's not the same with your system. lm_sensors + gkrellm works
fine.

Mike, have you looked inside the kde3 rpms you have? I'll just
bet they're already set to install to /opt.
Try 'rpm -qpil kdebase-3.0beta1rpm |less' or use MC.

BTW, get the SO 6 beta -- much nicer!
Unless you need the drawing package, as it is buggy as hell. The word
processor and spreadsheet are very nice however (and i havent tried the
presentation software).
