Hi,
I have been serving too small lists on my mac with OS 9, using free software:
Macjordomo as a list server and Stalker Internet Mail Server as a
mail server, so that the mail accounts of the lists actually reside
in my mac.
I want to move up to OS X, which I hoped would make it easy to do
Hmm, I seem to have jumped midway into this thread. Do I understand that
you're trying to install 9.1 over 8.1? It's been a long time since I used OS
8x but if memory serves, you have to update to OS 9.0 before installing 9.1.
At any rate, you need to update to 8.6 before doing anything with OS
Just a question. Is this easily corrupted in your own experience, or via
word-of-mouth from others? I've been using Entourage for about a year and a
half, and I've never lost and email, and any corruption I've had was
easily fixed with a database rebuild. I haven't counted recently, but I
I had an 8100 once and I successfully installed OS 9 on it over OS 8.1
using the OS 9.0.4 CD. You don't have to upgrade to 8.6 before you can
upgrade to OS 9.

Ah, nostalgia! Yes, this brings it all back. But wasn't it the case that you
had to update 8.0 to 9.0 before you could install 9.1? Perhaps Mr Turner can
be more specific?

Dear all,
I have been having problems with my cd/dvd rom drive (apologies if this is
sounding all too familiar..) When I got my Tibook (May 2001) the drive was
great- none of the mounting/alignment problems that plagued other early
machines. But recently the drive refused to mount any CDs.

My WS 266 with an added 64Mb runs its fan half of the time that it's in use

We all know how credible Spymac is... but still, this seems to make
sense. Of course, if Apple stops bundling IE with their computers and
copies of OS X, then MS will probably seriously consider dumping Office
support for Macs. That could hurt.
I also think that Chimera doesn't have Flash

Yes, I understand that. But it seems that Apple has made that

Okay. I haven't personally gotten it to work, but then again, I haven't
really made a concerted effort. However, since the website where Flash
can be downloaded usually only lists plugins for IE and Netscape,
people new to computers (or ones like me ;-) may not have any idea what
to do.

I have a Titanium Powerbook G4/400 that seems as slow as molasses. The

I just posted this to Apple Discussions but thought it still worth posting

do NOT use your Ethernet port routinely (I use AirPort, personally).
After installing x.1 on my wallstreet (300mhz 8/192) the installer
restarted my computer after counting down 30 seconds, it booted up into my
other OS (9.1) on another partition and I went to the startup disk control
panel and selected my partition w/ X to boot on. The booting of X failed

this be an upgrade that I haven't heard about in the machine since I just
bought it and did
Yes there was a G3 450MHz upgrade made for the WS. PowerLogix made one,
not sure who else.

Let me get this straight, Van. You say you can install 8.1, right? But that
9.1 won't do a clean install. What if you were to hack your 8.1 System

installer into believing you already had OS 9.0 on board? Worth a try.

Restore old extensions afterwards only if you know they'll work in
