On a test system with zVM 5.3 someone tried to logon with incorrect
password more than the allowed 5 times. Does anyone know where the 60
minutes or other value is set to allow the user to logon again ?
HCP780E (XAUTOLOG failed for userid -) Maximum password attempts
exceeded, ,
. They must not attempt to logon for 60 minutes, or
else the timer starts again.

We used to do the stepped approach until zVM 4.4 or 5.1.
Originally we did CP/GCS and TCPIP then did CMS later.
That was until TCPIP became dependent on CMS.
Now we're Big Bang believers.
If you must do stepped -remember CMS BEFORE or AT SAME TIME as TCPIP.

I'm not sure what the 'JL' command is but it sounds like you want your
job sysout, jesmsg, etc. to stay over on the JES3 side. You might try
editing the jcl on the VM side to include a //*MAIN ORG statement to
override the origin similar to //*MAIN ORG=jes3node.LOCAL where jes3node

I do remember you can get messages about shared Y- stat for the Y disk.
Same goes for S-stat if you were to copy the 190 disk.
The saved segments have to agree with the minidisks. Use DDR to copy the
old disk to the new disk.

I also would not create another id.
Just create new MAINT mdisks, do DDR copies and then flip flop the
mdisks in MAINT's directory and DIRM REPLACE. We use DIRMAINT.

We are going to be moving our zVM systems to new IBM dasd (DS8300).
In past dasd migrations we had used REXX execs and some assembler code

We would shutdown the system and run the DDR's from one of the other VM

We currently have external timers that are somehow magically connected

It depends on what specific things you want the z/VM systems programmer
to support-such as:
Install and maintain z/VM
any specific IBM and ISV products under z/VM (SES and non-SES)
any existing REXX exec's
any existing Assembler programs
any existing Exits and Mods
guest operating systems such as
Oh and add
Security concerns (support of DIRMAINT and RACF or VMSECURE or TOPSECRET
, or whatever Security products you use.)

You can use SET SHARE to stop the CPU runaways.
We have one bad app server we decided to cap permanently.
The application code problems have actully been on a Windows server -but
it impacts the oracle db on the mainframe- we just capped the test db
server so it doesn't impact the other servers.
It depends.
The cpu power of a z9 (or now z10) is larger than a z9BC.You need to
consider what 'size' IFL's you're talking about, what kind of
applications- do they do a lot of I/O use cpu, use memory, etc.
