From my own sad experience, I know that the place names in the Master
Location List are vulnerable to mistakes you make when you combine
locations there. You should/must always make a backup of your data
before making any changes to location names while in the Master List.

complete before the latest update, but now it takes about 9 minutes --

A non-plain answer would be a work-around like this: Merge the two
files. You could separate them again if you really want to, but I think

Yes, I see that you are right about the way it displays. I wouldn't
have thought there would be a difference. However, the recent files list
is visible in any case, either by clicking on the big L when it is
showing, or by clicking on the word System, just under a smaller L Icon
in the upper left
They are there, but are under a menu item called System. You can't see
the whole path, however, so it's kind of useless because the files are
now in a place where the path is naturally going to be longer than can
possibly be seen in that little space. I don't know why the Recent Files
display coul
