Sorry, I've never used gdm. I use xdm in most cases, kdm in a few. I'd
suggest taking a look at an xdm installation and how my previously posted
solution is set up with that, then trying to apply it to gdm.

In addition to what I mentioned, I'm using an MSI 6561 SiS 745 mobo w/
Athlon XP 1800 w/ DDR RAM.

Sorry, can't say. The file reflects the distro's PAM cfg. I just added

All that said, perhaps it's time to try an ATA-100 in one of the boxes
with a currently available mobo to see what kind of performance
differences there are with the current hardware. I hope I'll find that I
can justify dropping SCSI, and saving the added expense.

Yeah, that's what happened when it ran before I made the change to $USER :/,

I have never seen a 100 bT ISA NIC. AFAIK, they don't exist, cuz the bus
is incapable of handling the bw. I believe 100 bT requires a PCI bus.

Isn't SO 5.2 also free (as in no license fee required)? I also use SO

add-on server pkg w/ group-ware characteristics.

Correct - you shouldn't run both tftp and bootps. I made the same
mistake, and wasted several days trying to figure it out.
say that as long as all client hardware was the same so that you
wouldn't have to make any distinctions in lts.conf in regards to having
one or more machines configured differently from all the others, that
dynamic IP should be fine. Whatever works for you.

My problem was solved by disabling bootp. If for some reason you need

so that they aren't simultaneously active.

There are undoubtedly several possibilites. I encountered a similar

After any changes, you would need to restart inetd.

Indeed - for the implementation I'll be using a different type of client
entirely. For the next step, I'll reverse the client with the server, as
the 1st phase was more a "proof of concept" particu
