The cut command is not available in read-only boxes and lists. The copy command should be available in this case. Also, I don't think cut is available in file browser, because generally a cut item is only in the paste-board once cut, and if you cut something else that file would be lost.

You don't need a guide at all. In fact all you need to do is insert the DVD and either restart the machine and hold down the letter c until you hear the DVD begin being accessed by the Mac, insert the DVD, open System Preferences, select startup disk, and choose the Snow Leopard DVD,

The one common thread I can find is that I was working with files, rather than selecting text. So, I was selecting them by moving through the file table. Whenever I went into the menu, I was always able to copy the file, and the file I wanted always showed up as being selected. For any

You can start the upgrade the way you just said yep. The other option is to put the disc in, it'll appear in the finder, and there's a file you can launch on there that'll be called something really obvious like install snow leopard that will restart and boot from cd for you. Whichever works

First yes, if you reboot the machine, you of course will need to insert the DVD prior to booting. In fact in order for the Mac to boot off the DVD it needs to be in there in advance for you to hold down the c key or set it as the boot disk. As far as space required, I am not sure of the
