I recomend not using google sync. I found I would get 2 or more copies of
contacts when I tried this. I suggest instead that you export your address
book and then import into Google unless you have a very specific need to keep
the two in constant sync.

Tried everything I can think of and cannot sync my address book to gmail

I enabled it in the address book preferences with username and password , etc.
I even went to sync menu and pressed sync now. I check in my gmail contacts in

you are using TextEdit you can enable this feature by using the context menu, VO-Shift-M, and then either quickly pressing

straightforward when you are used to it.
Try the following.
Open address book.
Press command N
A new contact card should come up where you can enter normal name etc.

Brett's instructions assume that you are in the default viewing mode (Command-1 Card and
