I go one small step further and run the engine with water only for cooling until I'm sure it's OK. Any internal or external leaks can be fixed without a big mess or antifreeze getting into the engine. Did you vacuum the head and cylinders while under assembly?

Hey Chris, If air gets trapped where it's not supposed to it can case lots for problems including cooling problems. Fortunately the fix is easy. Take off the radiator cap, while the engine is cold. Squeeze a hose just to make sure. If the hose is hard then don't open the radiator cap. Turn on

Richard? Is that in the book? Pretty slick idea for a short drive home. Never fails how someone will drive that extra 1/2 mile to gas station instead of walking or getting help. Pretty much toasts the engine once you get over a certain temp for any length of time. Dan , who toasted his 230SL

Can't help you Curt. I've never had to pull a 123 tank - I guess they rarely fail. Remove the fuel cap before you blow any air into the tank, the pressure could force a lot of fuel back into your face and despite what you may think of me I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

When I still worked nights I had a driver call with a broken serp belt on his truck (15L Detroit Diesel). I instructed him to turn everything electrical in the cab off to conserve battery and drive to the closest shop open at night. He was in BFE New York and the closest shop was around 170-20
