While copying a file from my dos partition KDE locked up so tightly that I
had to do a hard reset to regain control. Many many fixes were applied to
my file system during the reboot. When X started it brought me up to a KDE
sign-on applet instead of the normal Mandrake one. There were no
bz2 files are bzipped archives. bz2 is often used
as it has a very good compression ratio. Normally mandrake 6 has bzip2
installed. just try to type bzip2 at a command line and it should pop up with an
error message saying it can't output to a terminal. If it doesn't, have a look

I have the same problem with KPPP in 6.0 except that it doesn't disconnect,
it say's starting kppp and it is connected and all it does is hang there,
when I disconnect it more or less say's the same thing except the connection
time is usually 0.2 min...

When I had the same problem, I found out I had set the modem to the
wrong serial port. If you want to follow the PPP HOWTO, you need
scripts, ppp-on, ppp-off, and ppp-on-dialer, that are in
/usr/docs/ppp-2.3.7/scripts. I moved them to /etc/ppp and filled out
ppp-on with info

I hit some icon and boom! GNOME icons squatted on top of my KDE icons.

CPU or something else, first I'd try Xconfigurator and using the lowest monitor
setting, and setting the resolution to 640x480 and color depth to 256 colors.
