you can check your current IP address by running /sbin/ifconfig. This will display the local IP address, network IP address, broadcast and adapter status. You can also (if you're running pump, type pump -i interface --status, although I'm not sure if pump monitor modems--I haven't tried it.

Sounds Like you may need to move the cdrom to the second IDE port. Make it clame master, and make shure the harddrive on IDE 1 is clamming master. I have noticed the some times even thoung the cdrom is compatable if you have them on the same IDE chanel that will give it an eror that it can't

Success!!! I took out my servername and address in /etc/hosts and am now able to connect to internet. /sbin/ifup ppp0 dials modem and connects /sbin/ifconfig shows eth0.,lo,ppp0 with IP addressess on ppp0 it shows the address the ISP gives me upon connection. What is command to disconnect?

Hi Kathleen, I use the compiler that comes with Mandrake which is also the same one in Redhat and the others. If it's C you're programming in invoke 'gcc', if you're doing C++ use 'g++'. Although actually either one will work for both C and C++. I've gotten some funny errors from gcc when
