don't know how to get out of. Before I wiped my hard drive to install MD

Help! how come my gnome starts without the DESKTOP ICONS? Also right
clicking and Left clicking on the desktop does nothing.

false alarm, just when I thought my SUDDEN LOGOUT problems was fixed by
deleting the files in "tmp/" i was wrong.
after the sudden logout of my KDE 3.0.2, F7 now displays >> and does not
respond to anything not even STARTX.
now what?...Help.
