installing Linux? This is really importnat to know. The server install and
custom install will wipe all existing partitions. The Workstation install
will leave any existing DOS partitions.

When logged in as root in linux, you type fdisk /dev/hda (or /dev/sda if you
want to check your scsi disk)
Then to see the state of your drive's partition, you type p.
It will give you the different partition on your drive, their size, their
type, ...

yep, finally something great today! :-) I can see ALL my partitions,
actually, using a Windows boot floppy, I can also ACCESS them, but my
Marc...I'm not sure what version of linux you are using, but I'm using Linux
mandrake complete 6.5, and I did a server install, and all of my exhisting
dos and windows partitions are still there and I port data back and forth
between them, I had no problems with losing partitions or anything
: drive tho, maybe.

IDE drives may not work well, or at all, on some systems. How
was the bios set before you dedicated space on your IDE drives

Format a diskette with the MSDOS (or VFAT) filesystem. Copy the following
files from your Windows partition to this disk: Command.com, IO.sys, and
Msdos.sys. Download and extract Ranish Partition Manager 2.38 onto this
diskette. Keep this disk in the drive and reboot the PC. Type "part"
reinstall partition magic. It should have asked you to make a rescue
floppy. If not, there should be the option to create a rescue disk on
the cd if you can access it under DOS boot floppy.
