However, to put it mildly, your plea is somewhat vague. We need to know:
1. What media are you trying to use? A Mandrake CD-ROM? A downloaded
version?
I would recommend getting one of the books for linux programing (trust
me there are loads). Also there sould be some documention in the
/usr/doc folder on you system.

I am just trying to install a new version of it, and it is asking for a
CDROM drive. I know i have an ATAPI drive. its not listed, so i dont have a
clue! I tried all the modules but no luck..

A couple of things it might be.
Check all your connections to CD also.
1)ATAPI CD that is not recognised. I had a Delta 44X that would NOT work...I
toss in my Toshiba 32X...BINGO..:)
2) Bad ISO d/l...therefore bad CD burn -re d/l try again
3) bad CD burn - re d/l try again...probably with 7.0

I'm trying to install Gnome Chess,which contains a file called "gnome

which should create a directory, more than likely gnome-chess-0.2.2 or
gnome-chess
2) cd to the newly created directory
3) look for some docs like README or INSTALL
4) read the docs and hopefully it will inform you how to install
the gnome-chess-0.2.2

or undocked without any problem. Compaq uses cable select on all their drives
so you don't have to worry about master/slave jumpers. Does your laptop use
