I need help getting my sound card to work or even be detected half the time,
second, my (non winmodem) USR 56k x2/v.90 modem I need the same help with,
lothar doesn't seem to do any good finding it and even though i've specified
the port, it's not seen. Could someone give me some suggestions

I noticed the same thing happened with Mandrake 6.1 but the problem went away
after I played with it a while...can't figure out what I did (and wish I could

Try editing your /etc/conf.modules and deleting any line (or if you want to feel safer
just put a # sign in front of) any line that says sound in it.

against another wall (why don't i buy normal hardware). I have to configure
my sound card manually, and I think I am not far from the point of when it
will work. But I can't load the sound module when I try to

Midi's play fine, but wavs seem to be muted. In xmms the eq goes up
and down, but all I get from the speakers is a click. The spkrs are
fine (work in Windows), and I can play midis (at least the one that
sndconfig plays), but not mp3's either.

In Mandrake 7.0, the sound volume changes I make with aumix do not stay in
place. Every time I reboot, the settings change back to EXTREMELY LOUD,
which I of course don't notice until I go to play music and have to rush
to turn it down. How can make my volume setting changes stay in place
