I have both the FA 28-70 and the FA 28-105. Optically I'd consider them to be nearly equivalent. There is some light falloff in the 28-70 that seems to be worse than in the 28-105, but in terms of sharpness etc I don't see any difference between them -- but, I have never done formal tests.
