Interesting chart. The differences are probably imperceptible in most
cases, although the 1.4 A clearly outperformed the 1.4 M. I would like
to see how the 1.4 K and FA would do. Of course, this is just
resolution and doesn't include other factors.

I have owned several different 50mm Pentax lenses, and I believe my SMC

At least the A50/2 and A50/1.7s are a great source of lens mount screws, oh and
maybe a resonable DIY loupe.

I have an A50/1.7. I find it to be an excellent lens, sharp and with high
contrast. Though I used it quite a bit in the past, it now resides on a back
shelf in the equipment closet in a sealed Glad bag with a little packet of
silica gel. Of the 50's, I use the A50/1.4 almost exclusively, not tha
I recommend the A50/2.8 macro for 50mm close up.

I would LOVE to have a K85/1.8! Anyone know where I
can find one??? I assume it is as good as the M42
versions? I was thinking of getting the M42 version
and then an adaptor to mount it to the istD. Finding
a K mount version would be better, assuming it is as
good as the screw mount. What are
Since I don't have one, I can't use it. I've the A100/2.8 macro, however,
there are times when I may not want to use a "flat field" lens. Thanks for
the suggestion and for jumping in.

The two lenses are supposedly identical in regard to optics, although
the M42 has a larger filter ring. In any case, the K is at least the
equal of the screwmount. They turn up on ebay from time to time for
$350 to $400.

I have both the A 50/2.8 Macro and the A 100/2.8 Macro, and, while I
would prefer the 100 for most of my macro shooting, the 50 is just
so compact, and so lightweight,
Thanks Paul, I appreciate the response.
