Well the A mode as I describe works wonderfully on my Metz 40MZ2 + Z1
so I'm used to that. Once you override, then flash settings are used
of course. Anyway it doesn't work so...
That said it now seems to me it is a feature of the 360FGZ to give
access to ONLY PTTL on a camera which offers PTTL.
I get some odd behavior also with the 360FGZ on the K10D. Sometimes it
cycles between all 4 modes, sometimes only two. If the flash is set to A
or M mode with the camera off, and then the camera is turned on, it
seems to cycle through all 4 modes. But if the cmaera is turned on

you are wanting the A mode to basically function like it was TTL -
basically taking any readings/changes you make on the camera and then

that and TTL is that the sensor is in the flash instead of the body.
Not having used a Metz, every flash I have ever used has behaved more
like the AF360FGZ. Basically because the settings were all on
mechanical switches that couldn't be set from the body. If you look
at a Pentax AF280T or AF400T, you will see this type of unit. Most

Very weird.
I can confirm that even with fresh batteries (alkaline but well they
provide 1.5V each and were perfectly new one) that unless in M mode
(camera) I can only choose PTTL or SB.
Also, it will not show correct parameters when in A mode (flash) and M

After further investigation, when the camera mode is manual, it cycles
between the mentioned modes, but if the camera is switched out of

My woops - I almost always shoot in manual mode, so didn't try it the
other way.
My understanding and usage of A mode is that there is a sensor on the
flash that is used instead of the one in the body. The flash can be
set to any parameters that you want, independent of the body. This
allows you to control the flash as you want. It lets you do fill
