version. What s/w are you using at the time? Does this only happen
when you're online? That sort of thing...

I ran King's Quest 6 on my 486 33MHz with 8MB RAM. Just run DOS 6.something as the
OS, and you should be fine. I think. I have no personal experience with VPC3, but
lots with DOS. If you need any help setting up things like a mouse or CDROM under
DOS, I can help. Good luck.

*SNAP* of an arc. Things still worked OK, but I attribute that to dumb
luck. Others that have done that have had their ADB stop working

Umm... does the ADB have power when the 3400 is sleeping? Remember,
ADB isn't hot-pluggable. That's a good way to burn out your ADB port.

That's because System 7.1 needs an enabler to run on a 180. I know because I helped
my friend reinstall 7.1 on his 180. Enablers go in the System Folder.
The only thing you can do is make a special boot disk that has the enabler on it. You
can download the enabler you need from Apple's Older
on reload for
40-50 times before the page finally loads, does it? (I'm using NS7 on
9.2.2, not on my 3400 though, and it's damn near unusable because of this.
And it's purely NS, because IE or iCab will load the same page just fine.)

can get a HD of a size equal to or greater than your
3400's HD, then you can do a complete backup to the HD, including having all
the utilities you want installed. Just boot from the external drive when

According to the AppleSpec database, the Powerbook
I had a PB145 that I tried to get a new hard drive for about six months ago. If the
drive in there works, think long and hard about making it work. If you need more
read-write storage, there are several old SCSI cartridge type systems that can be had
cheap. This includes Zip, Syquest, or you could
if there was no crash.
Compared to your copy of TechTool Pro, that NU is ancient. If you can't
update your Norton, I'd stick with TTP3 and get a copy of Disk Warrior 2.

Copy reads all of the separate image files and mounts a single volume. This should

A quick thought: try eraseing/reformatting a mac floppy. I have an old memory
flickering in the back of my brain about two different format processes, one that
shows the bar and one that doesn't...maybe. Try it and see.

Sorry, but the info on which drive is a startup drive isn't stored on the
drive but in PRAM. With that in mind, if none of the above suggestions
work, you could try zapping the PRAM, which should then default the 'Book
back to booting from the internal HD.
