Hi, You can do this, at least with floppy tapes. The trick is to have a .rhosts file on the machine with the tape drives specifying the name(s) of the machines you want to back up. Then you just access the tape drive with: tar cvlf machine_with_tape_drive:/dev/rft0 (or whatever). Good

Thank You for your respons Mr. McKay, The rpm is a new one from Red Hat, reinstalling would not have fixed, I figure it out! Last night I added a user via the internet (through a terminal).I obviously could not use the usercfg (that has spoiled me) so I had to do it through the commandline.
