I was trying to setup my RH 8.0 box to act as a gateway. Currently, I'm
using Win XP Pro. I just want to switch things around.
I got TKppoe working but am unable to reach the internet now from the XP
box. I didn't setup ip masquerading which is probably the problem.
I was read
I fixed the authentication warnings part by adding apache to the
/etc/mail/trusted-users file.
However i do not yet have the IP masquerading part working yet.

/etc/sendmail.cf file. I restarted sendmail (/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail
restart).

I have setup a new
dual boot machine with W2k and RH 7.2. I want to test the reliability and
speed differences between IP Masquerading and Internet Connection Sharing.
This new machine has 2 ethernet cards, one goes to the cable modem and the
other to the internal network
OK...
Well my masquerading problems pop back up... sometimes everything works
great for several hours, but usually there are problems.
Both computers have their MTUs set at 1500. Is that good? Any other
ideas?
Guess I'll break down and get a second ethernet card for the server if
there's not

Literally as soon as I hit "send" on that post it seems to have been
working great! I even watched streaming video over C-Span on the
masq'ed box.

If it's any consolation, I can confirm the symptom. Although diald would kick
in correctly on the gateway machine, and although the rest my workstations
could then correctly access internet through the gateway machine, diald would
not kick in if it was the workstation trying to get out.

Since these refer to the Win95 machine, and that machine is on the private
side of your network, you can put anything that you want there. The
general concept is to be in the format of host.domain. So, for your win95
machine you could put the host as 'win95' and the domain as 'my.domain' fo

Absolutely I have 4 machines here using this box as the gateway to the
'net, this box being connected to my isp on dynamic IP# assignment.
I think what you are getting at though
After lurking for several months on this interesting list and learning a lot in this
