Tim,
The gas that caused the accident could be any number of different gases.
Methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, or just lack of
oxygen. Methane is usually colorless and odorless and would be difficult to
detect. It is flammable and explosive in the right mixture of
I forgot got mention yesterday that I have 2 rainwater storage tanks sitting

deliver elsewhere. See FB for photo.

Charles,
It is related to caving in the same way that all of the other caving related
equipment discussions on Texascavers are related to caving. This list
frequently contains discussions about equipment, including lights, cameras,
camping equipment, vehicles, etc., which cavers often use in

Rod, indirectly everything we touch is caving related, but we don't
discuss most of it on this list. I called Bill Bentley yesterday on
my iphone and talked about caving, but you don't see me discussing
iphone updates, patches on here.

I sent him a reply off list, didn't want to drag an argument onto the

I really don't understand your sensitivity about this topic. Computers and

Some caves can probably be ventilated using blower fans and hoses.
But at what point do you decide to carry oxygen tanks and a breathing
mask?
Also, is regular scuba gear the best way to do this?
Or is it better to use some kind of industrial apparatus like they
use cleaning chemical tanks?
Or
SCUBA certifications are only really useful for companies that run guide and
boat services, for insurance sake. You'll have no problem buying whatever
equipment you want from a SCUBA shop.
I worked on a human-powered submarine in college which operated fully

You might need full SCUBA gear for a cave like Honey Creek, but there's not
enuff water in Lemons Ranch to need fins or a wetsuit...
There's some tight squeezes in Lemons Ranch where it might be pretty tough to
try and wear an air tank. I suppose you could drag it along with you though.

My oversight. You are right, you both did the hard part and completed the
survey. Bad air yes, but it probably was much worse before we blew good air
into the pit for an hour.

Without Marks air blower and 200ft of tubing into the cave, the surveying
