This new radio has changed my style of life. I hardly even watch T.V.
anymore which is saying a lot for a guy like me. I can only imagine
what the next few years is going to bring as far as apps and upgrades.
One thing is for sure, now that I have wi-fi radio I will never go

I'm trying to decide between the Touch and Duet. What are the
fundamental differences I should know about them (aside from the
location of displays) ?
They are almost the same price on Amazon.
I am interested in using Squeezebox primarily to play classical
recordings with maximum fidelity.

Are you saying that aside from price (which is negligible at least at
Amazon) there are features on the Touch that I would not have on the

Unless you really want the fancy handset, the controller, there is no
reason at all not to get the Touch. In other words, the Touch is better
at everything else but the remote/controller.

Hy Mnyb and Garym,
Many thanks for your help so far. I can now get music out of my Touch
fairly readily so now I need to focus on more minor issues.
FYI my PC is left on 24/7 - it was designed for this sort of
operation - this also applies to the 1TB powered exterior hard drive

I own both the Duet and Touch. If I had to choose between the two, I'd
get the touch. The touch has a larger display and does have the
flexability to control other players if your setup expands. As others
have mentioned, if you own an iPod Touch or an iPhone, you can use it

So I finally got my Shuttle "barebones". Installed Windows 7 and SBS on
it. When I hook it up to the Touch via ethernet and try to connect via
ethernet, get this message: "We were unable to find a DHCP address for
the network."

A SB Touch gives pretty astonishing sound quality when used with good
amplifier and speakers.

I'm having some problems with this. I tried setting what I thought
+1 for the touch.
I have both and do find that the touch is less prone to technical
foibles.
The controller on the duet is nice however as you will read in a few
posts the screen can dim over time and mine is now only readable in
very low light conditions.

I've installed firmware fab4_7.6.0_r9316.bin from
http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.6.0/ on to the Touch
device itself.
To do so:
1. Download the file.
2. Copy it to the root directory of your USB hard drive. For me, on a
Windows machine, this is my E:\ drive because my USB drive
Heh, heh. I was trying to convince myself to try some "expensive" cables
of the Cat7 or 6 variety, irritated by occasional noise issues. Then I
told myself I had to come here to clear my head. I bought the sub-$1
cable at Monoprice. Oh, it's still Cat6, but I think it was 76 cents.
