Can I load OpenOffice on my classroom computers at school? Is this legal?

I'm trying to use the MailMerge service via the openoffice 2.2 API.
It outputs the correct number of documents, and I can even name them
with a column from the data source, so most things seem OK.
However, the fields are left in the generated document, not replaced.
