Glenn,

I agree with you completely that the NT goes far beyond obeying the OT.  But how do you go beyond (as in more fully) obeying the OT, without obeying the OT?

I also agree that most Christians “believe in obedience.” They just don’t obey. Most are complete hypocrites who choose their way rather than God’s way whenever they must choose between the two. Most are liars. Many are adulterers. Most wink at every form of sin. They vote their pocketbook instead of their conscience. They watch godless TV and movies, and secretly indulge in internet pornography. They are Sunday morning Christians, and live secret lives of apathy and indulgence the rest of the week. They mean well, but lack the integrity to work out their salvation. They are believers in word only; not in deed. And they use the doctrine of grace to excuse their sin.

If I can’t simply obey the 10 commandments, I have no intention of obeying the deeper meaning of the laws of God—especially the Law of Love.

I don't know of a single Christian who believes the below.  Christians believe in obedience.  But not to the Old Testament that as been fulfilled with it's Sabbath and other details.  Obedience to Jesus the Christ in the New Testament.  In fact, Jesus' teachings are FAR BEYOND the OT teachings.  For example, in the OT you just could not kill.  Jesus went far beyond that in teaching, in saying that if you hate your brother, you are a killer.  OT taught not to commit adultery but Jesus went FAR BEYOND physical adultery in saying that if you lust after a person you have committed adultery.  Jesus' teachings went far beyond keeping a Saturday.

But I am not afraid to let others know what I believe, even though I know this will cause many Christians to think themselves superior to me because they think that “grace” is just “believing in Jesus”, and obedience is just for the Old Testament.
