Josh,

Here is a short video describing RSRP (Reference Signal Received Power)
calculations in LTE. As most LTE is used in Mobile operations, this
measurement is necessary for cellular handoffs, CINR measurements, etc. This
is comparable to RSSI that most WISPs are used to.

RSRP (Reference Signal Receive Power) is the average power of Resource Elements
(RE) that carry cell specific Reference Signals (RS) over the entire bandwidth,
so RSRP is only measured in the symbols carrying RS. While RSSI (Received
Signal Strength Indicator) is a parameter which provides information about
total received wide-band power (measure in all symbols) including all
interference and thermal noise.

So it would be safe to write that, in LTE, RSRP provides information about
signal strength and RSSI helps in determining interference and noise
information. This is the reason, RSRQ (Reference Signal Receive Quality)
measurement and calculation is based on both RSRP and RSSI.

Here is another tutorial about RSSI vs. RSRP

-80 dBm or -80 in the LTE measurement? I know there are two different values
and they vary greatly, but I'm not sure on the details.

I don't believe the 12 meg would be the entire AP's capacity at that
distance/range/signal, especially with LTE (think 1 bar on your cell phone not
taking out the entire Verizon tower).

Isnt the NLOS performance a direct trade-off vs throughput though? I remember
when the Telrad guys were showing this link that was miles away through all
these trees connecting in the -80's and they were all excited that it was still
pushing 12mbps to that CPE. But at the expense of it was consuming 100% of the
AP's total resources (airtime) . So basically just take a 450 AP and run every
connected client in 1x or 2x mode and that will be the same thing as trying to
push an LTE system to the limits. Am I wrong?

90mbps in a 20mhz Channel? That's what Cambium 450 could get 2 years ago on a
whole lot more solid software/firmware.

So whats the advantages of the LTE? Is it going to be cheaper than the Cambium
450? Is the license keys for SM throughput or can 1 SM do the full speed?

I have it. They are letting me talk about it pass my nda. Hardware so far is
solid. Software is very beta. Missing many key features needed for comerical
deployment. We are seeing about 90mb on 20mhz which is what is to be expected
with R9 LTE. I posted maybe a week ago on one of our links. 5ghz is on the
road map. Shoot me your questions.
