Alas, it's not that simple. A "good" source will sound much more musical 
than a "bad" source.

My view, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle, i.e. between the source 
vs. speakers camps.

I think the ear/brain is much more able to hear "through" a 
less-than-perfect frequency response than it is able to discount the 
effects of a poorly reconstructed digital source. Sure, a 
less-than-ideal frequency response might be more immediately obvious 
but, on long-term listening, the poor digital source is much more tiring.

Well, to my ears anyway.
