Hi all, Totally agree Anthony. People's motivation for doing the CCIE are very different: prestige? personal challenge? to be at the top of one's professions? to be taken seriously by "pointy haired bosses" who only listen to people who are CCIE? to keep up with work colleagues who are after it? And yes, more money.... I think all are valid reasons, but some are more likely to be fulfilled than others. You have to know your own true motivation for doing it, and a realistic assessment if it actually getting it will meet those ambitions. On the salary front, yes it is true that salaries are dropping. However, I am reminded of a Billy Connolly joke: There are 2 Scottish cameramen, filming lions in the middle of the African plains. One of the lions turns to the cameraman and roars directly at them. One of the cameraman pauses and starts changing into Nike running shoes. The other cameraman says: "You'll never outrun a lion!!", to which the first replies, "Forget the lion! As long as I can outrun you, I'll be fine!!" CCIEs outrun CCNPs who outrun CCNAs. The higher you get on that ladder, the safer you are in times of recession, depression and Euro Zone collapse.....
