My Father was in it from the very start (UNIVAC, ENIAC days). We always had computers in the house. There's a Leading Edge Model D 8088 floating around the family that may still be working. He was integral in modernizing the US Postal Service in the early 70's and taught Assembler Language at Northern Virginia Community College in the late 60's.
(wow.... I feel like I'm writing his eulogy) He retired in 1985 as the head of Computer Security for the Department of Commerce. I learned ColdFusion and SQL on my own.... I still need to go back and get an actual degree at some point. -- Scott Stewart ColdFusion Developer SSTWebworks 4405 Oakshyre Way Raleigh, NC. 27616 (919) 874-6229 (home) (703) 220-2835 (cell) -----Original Message----- From: G Money [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2008 8:15 AM To: CF-Community Subject: Why did you get into computers? (was: churvii: a study in brainiacs) I spun this off into a new thread because it got me thinking........why did everyone here get into programming? Was it by choice? Did it just happen that way? Did you major in CS in college? Was it to make money? For me personally, I wanted a job that had 3 primary characteristics: 1) Made good money 2) Would be in demand for the foreseeable future and 3) Would allow me to work with minimal contact with other people I'm not a misanthrope, but I do really enjoy just shrinking into my own world sometimes and pounding out code without having to interact with a bunch of people to get stuff done. So.......how did everyone else get into this business?
