[13] More from new keeper

Medical apparently on Thursday

"I've had a few disappointments before so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that
everything goes through OK. I thought I was going to Leicester, then Everton came in
for me, but both deals fell through. In the end, though, that could prove to be a
blessing in disguise. This really is a dream move for me. I've always wanted to play
for a big club and they don't come any bigger than Manchester United. I've spent five
years at Wigan and we never quite made it to the First Division. Sadly we never did
the business in the play-offs. I've had some great times here, but I know I will learn
even more in the top league."

Roy Carroll:

"It will be great working with Fabien Barthez because at the moment there's no better
goalkeeper in the world. Obviously he is the number one, but I'm hoping to do well if
I get a chance. The whole deal has not sunk in yet. I will be working with Fabien
Barthez and facing shots from David Beckham in training - it's incredible! I'm over
the moon and I just hope everything will be sorted out."

'A woman accused of stealing letters from the luxury apartment of David and Victoria
Beckham has had her case adjourned. Chinyela Obue was due to appear before
Macclesfield Magistrates charged with burglary. She allegedly broke into the communal
hallway of the building in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. The 37-year-old, who allegedly
took a taxi to the exclusive village from her home city of Edinburgh in the early
hours of Sunday July 1, also faces a charge of obtaining services by deception
relating to the cab fare. The case was adjourned in her absence to a date in around
two weeks' time.'

"Ruud has really impressed in training. He's fitted in really well and he's looked
really sharp. He has shown his quality with his finishing, but it's not just that and
his link-up play is very good as well. He's got a bit of everything. I think he can
only get better because he doesn't know the players yet. That will come with games and
by the start of the season I'm sure he will be flying."

"I think this term will probably be the biggest test any of us have had in our lives.
When you win trophies it is vitally important to keep that momentum going. People will
be expecting us to do well again, which is why this is a crucial period for Liverpool.
We have managed to put ourselves back on the world map and now it is up to us to try
to stay there."

[7] When is a Utd restaurant not a Utd restaurant?

'Manchester United are considering legal action against a Hong Kong restaurant using
the club's name. The Man United Restaurant & Bar opened on July 23, but does not hold
a licence for the name. Surrounded by posters of midfielder David Beckham, guests can
sample the bar's MU Meat Pie.

"It's definitely not an official restaurant," says Van Ge Kourentis, head of the
club's marketing department. "We will look at it and we will make a decision on
whether to take action."

Patrick Pang Yung, a director of the restaurant, admits he does not hold a licence for
using the club's name.

"We don't have that much to do with football", he says. "It's a restaurant, and we
just want to have a gimmick to attract people."

Apart from the pie and the posters, there is little reference to Manchester United
inside the bar. Decorations are in green, rather than the club's traditional red,
reports the South China Morning Post.'

[6] Hull lose out in new Utd goalie deal

'Hull will miss out on a potential £500,000 windfall when former goalkeeper Roy
Carroll completes his move to Manchester United. Carroll is set to join Alex
Ferguson's stars from Wigan in a deal worth £2.5million but it has been revealed that
the sell-on clause agreed when he left Boothferry Park had been sold by Hull's
previous director of football last season when they were in financial difficulties.

Tigers chairman Adam Pearson said: "It is one of those issues that has come back to
bite us, unfortunately. The previous director obviously decided to sell the sell-on
clause for Roy Carroll, which was 20% and that would have netted the club £500,000,"
he told BBC Radio Humberside.'

You don't want to do that, as some might have said.

"I'm very pleased. It took a while to get going and I thought they were very
competitive. But once we got a goal we did well. Although they did score we finished
the half quite well and in the second half it was a really good performance. Overall
it was a very good team performance."

Fergie: "He has been pestering the life out of me for ages so thank God that's out of
the road now and he can go back in goal. He's very capable with the ball, no doubt
about that. It was just a bit of fun for Fabien to give him that game because he has
been going on about playing out."
