I'm a bit confused on what you mean by "master" since I thought you have only one optical drive and it's a combo. The HD has to be the master. If the DVD and CD is a combo as I think understand, try booting off of any bootable CD and see what happens. If it works, then you know it's not OS or software related and something went wrong with the DVD portion of the drive. -Clint

Also Lisa, if you simply could not boot from the restore disk (I believe Hugh already covered how to do that), and in the BIOS it's not going to say "DVD", it will say "CDROM", so treat them as the same. Also if you have two optical drives, you're going to have to put the disk in the master optical drive (which is easier than changing the optical boot order in the BIOS), since it's the drive to which the PC will boot if set to "CDROM".
