Bud, I agree! I like this approach and would be much more inclined to buy a
model WITHOUT grabs and railings than one with molded-on grabs and railings.
For step wrongs, ladders and short grabs I prefer molded plastic details over
pre-formed bent wire details or over bending my own wire details, but
acknowledge the durability of wire over plastic.

As for the FP nose... even LifeLike Proto 2000's first E-units from many years
ago had the wrong nose contour... so bad, in fact, that (if I remember the
timeline correctly) Walthers corrected the issue when they bought the P2K line
from LifeLike. So, if AM got it right, that says a lot!!! Too bad I don't
need any FP-7s... :(

Then again... I could always model a few black and yellow SCL, ex-ACL FP-7s
from the 1980s... just to have them.

John, As for "modeling", one thing the Am Models FP's did that pleased
me to no end, was to "NOT" cast on handrails! They left them off
altogether.....much easier to just drill and add wire "standoff" handrails. I
make my own now with the EMD type having distinctly smaller attachment rods top
and bottom and inch and a half verticals.
Despite any criticism, the AM FP nose is a real good representation of
EMD's bulldog nose. Other details can be easily improved with some "modeling".
