Schedule job in CiscoWorks2000 [7:28852]
Hello colleagues, I am trying to schedule a job to get the enable and telnet passwords changed on all my switches and routers using the job scheduler in Resource Manager Essentials. I understand how to schedule the job, but the execution fails every time because the logon to the switches and routers fails. How is the job scheduler supposed to now how to logon to a system ? Where are the passwords stored ? Is there an option in CiscoWorks2000 where you can fill in the default passwords, similar to the default SNMP community strings ? Thanks for your help in advance. Re: Trunking - VLANS - with NORTEL switch [7:27255]
Hamid, how far are you with the VLAN configuration on your BayStack 450 ? Use the 4VLAN Configuration Menu4 and the 4VLAN Port Configuration Menu4 to create VLANs and to add ports. Use the 4Multilink Trunk Configuration Menu4 to create trunks. The BayStack supports 802.1q trunking only, so you4ll have to use that on your Cisco router as well. Let me know if you need any more specific help. Below is a link to the BayStack 450 User Guide, which contains all the configuration information you need in detail: http://www25.nortelnetworks.com/library/tpubs/pdf/switches/bstack/450/02401A00.PDF Regards, Hans >From: "Hamid" >Reply-To: "Hamid" >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Trunking - VLANS - with NORTEL switch [7:27255] >Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 00:57:07 -0500 > >Hi group >In my network I have a CISCO 3600 Router and a NORTEL Baystack 450 switch. >its a manageble switch. Cannot add dialer map statement [7:27078]
Hello colleagues, I am trying to add a dialer map statement to a dialer interface configuration. Even after removing the existing dialer map statement, upon entering the new one the system tells me that it cannot add the dialer map because there already exists a dynamic one. There is nothing showing in the running config, so I don4t know where the dynamic entry is stored. I have heard that this problem can occur with early IOS versions and that the workaround is to shut the BRI and then add the dialer map. This is not an option for me because I have to add the dialer map remotely. Does anybody have an idea ? Thanks in advance for your help. Cat5500 Supervisor Engine compatibility [7:16420]
Hello colleagues, this might be an 4open door4 question: I have two Cat5509s, and I am in the process of installing a redundant supervisor engine into both. The first one works fine, since the Supervisor engines are exactly the same, including the firmware version. On the other Cat5500, the newly inserted Supervisor doesn4t go into the 4standby4 status. The difference between the currently active Supervisor and the redundant one is that the firmware version on the redundant one is 5.x.x, while on the active one it is 4.x.x. In addition, the currently active one says 1000BaseLX Supervisor, while the one I inserted is a Supervisor III. Does anybody know if there is a compatibility matrix for this ? Mike, thanks for your reply. The problem is that the switch is physically very far away; I just want know if a shut/no shut that is not followed by an up/down of the port inidcates that there is some sort of the problem with the switch port or the cabling. Switch port failure on 3548 [7:15089]
Hello colleagues, I have a Cisco 3548 switch and I suspect that one of the switch ports is not working. All 48 ports have a CAT5 cable connection, and all ports are patched to the respective wall outlets, there are no active users yet, so all the ports are down/down. When I do a shut/no shut on all the ports, I can see in the log that all ports except one show that the port goes up and then down. To my best knowledge, the fact that the port goes up/down after a shut/no shut shows that the port is ok. The port that doesn't work goes down right away. My question is: does this mean that the actual physical switch port is defective, or that the CAT5 cable attached to the switch isn't working, or that something on the path from the switch port to the wall outlet isn't working ? CBAC on subinterfaces [7:3787]
Hello colleagues, I wonder if it is possible to configure context-based access control between subinterfaces on the same router. Routing to different destinations from same source [7:3569]
Hello colleagues, I want to route to two different destinations from the same source addresses. The souces are Windows NT machines with two default gateways; I want everything going to the Internet going out to one of the gateways, and everything else going out the other. I am not sure if configuring access lists does the job; when a packet from the source is denied, does it then automatically choose the other default gateway ? I guess policy routing won't work, since the source is the same, only the destinations are different. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance for your help. Outbound access lists [7:3174]
Hello colleagues, I am trying to configure outbound access lists between 4 FastEthernet subinterfaces (with 4 different VLANs configured), so that the VLANs cannot communicate with each other. The problem is that inbound access lists work fine, but when I configure outbound access lists (e.g. on FastEthernet0/0.1 to deny traffic to FastEthernet0/0.2) nothing happens. I wonder if this is inherent to trying to configure outbound access lists between (sub)interfaces on the same router. Does anybody know ? Thanks for your help in advance. Windows 95 Dial-Up to Cisco 1603 [7:2173]
Hello colleagues, I have a Windows 95 client that I want to be able to dial in to a Cisco 1603. The Cisco 1603 is configured for callback accepts. BRI interface not calling
Hello colleagues, I have a problem with two BRI interfaces on my Cisco 2610: On both interfaces, I have static dialer maps configured to two separate locations, so the total is 4 locations to be dialed, two on BRI1/0, and two on BRI1/1. I can make one call on BRI1/0 and one on BRI1/1, or two on BRI1/0, or two on BRI1/1, but never four at the same time. Changing IP address on Ethernet
Hello colleagues, I have come across a problem on my LAN which I can't seem to figure out: I need more host addresses on my LAN, so I changed the subnet mask on my Ethernet IP address to a 22-bit subnet mask (was 10.226.192.254/24, is now 10.226.192.254/22). The problem I am having now is that I cannot ping the Ethernet interface anymore (even from the same router). Do I have to change the subnet mask for the default gateway on the hosts attached to the LAN first before I can ping the interface ? It seems to me that I should be able to ping my Ethernet interface, regardless of what IP address is configured, as long as the status is up/up. Thanks for your input in advance. When I run the 'sh cont atm 1/0' command, I get the following output (maybe anybody as an idea on where the error could be); I know this is going to be a very long mail, but I can't help it: zrh-atm#sh contr atm1/0 Interface ATM1/0 is down Hardware is ATM E1 LANE client MAC address is 0002.4b76.0dd0 hwidb=0x81472004, ds=0x8148C564 slot 1, unit 0, subunit 0 rs8234 base 0x4080, slave base 0x4080 rs8234 ds 0x8148C564 SBDs - avail 2048, guaranteed 1, unguaranteed 2047, starved 0 Seg VCC table 4080B800, Shadow Seg VCC Table 814A8380, VCD Table 814BE3AC Schedule table 40816800, Shadow Schedule table 814C43D8, Size 7CD RSM VCC Table 4082BD00, Shadow RSM VCC Table 814C9414 VPI Index Table 40829280, VCI Index Table 4082B900 Bucket2 Table 40820480, Shadow Bucket2 Table 814C6338 MCR Limit Table 40820880, Shadow MCR Table 814C7F64 ABR template 40820A80, Shadow template 811FF798 RM Cell RS Queue 40829900 Queue TXQ Addr Pos StQ Addr Pos 0 UBR CHN0 40825A80 0028B4EA0 0 1 UBR CHN1 40825E80 0028B56A0 0 2 UBR CHN2 40826280 0028B5EA0 0 3 UBR CHN3 40826680 0028B66A0 0 4 VBR/ABR CHN0 40826A80 0028B6EA0 0 5 VBR/ABR CHN1 40826E80 0028B76A0 0 6 VBR/ABR CHN2 40827280 0028B7EA0 0 7 VBR/ABR CHN3 40827680 0028B86A0 0 8 VBR-RT CHN0 40827A80 0028B8EA0 0 9 VBR-RT CHN1 40827E80 0028B96A0 0 10 VBR-RT CHN2 40828280 0028B9EA0 0 11 VBR-RT CHN3 40828680 0028BA6A0 0 12 SIG 40828A80 0028BAEA0 0 13 VPD 40828E80 0028BB6A0 0 Queue FBQ Addr Pos RSQ Addr Pos 0 OAM 408EBD00 132 028BBF60 133 1 UBR CHN0 408ECD00 0028BCF60 0 2 UBR CHN1 408EDD00 0028BDF60 0 3 UBR CHN2 408EED00 0028BEF60 0 4 UBR CHN3 408EFD00 0028BFF60 0 5 VBR/ABR CHN0 408F0D00 8028C0F60 9 6 VBR/ABR CHN1 408F1D00 0028C1F60 0 7 VBR/ABR CHN2 408F2D00 0028C2F60 0 8 VBR/ABR CHN3 408F3D00 0028C3F60 0 9 VBR-RT CHN0 408F4D00 0028C4F60 0 10 VBR-RT CHN1 408F5D00 0028C5F60 0 11 VBR-RT CHN2 408F6D00 0028C6F60 0 12 VBR-RT CHN3 408F7D00 0028C7F60 0 13 SIG 408F8D00 0028C8F60 0 SAR Scheduling channels: -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 ATM channel number is 0 Link 0 IMA Info: group index is 99 Tx link id is 0, Tx link state is notInGroup Rx link id is 99, Rx link state is notInGroup Rx link failure status is noFailure, 0 tx failures, 1 rx failures Link 0 Framer Info: framing is Multiframe-CRC4, line code is HDB3, impedance is 120 ohm clock src is line, payload-scrambling is enabled, no loopback line status is 0x420; or Rx LOF, Tx LOMF. port is active, link is unavailable 36213058 idle rx, 1917 correctable hec rx, 309882 uncorrectable hec rx 2248 cells rx, 0 cells tx, 0 rx fifo overrun. Carrier transitions
Hello colleagues, do you know what causes carrier transitions on a serial interface ? Is it when the serial status changes from up/up to up/down, or when it changes to down/down, or both ? BGP on Cisco 1601 with 12.0(3)T IOS
Hello colleagues, I have two Cisco 1601's running IOS version 12.0(3)T on which I try to implement BGP as a routing protocol. When I am in config mode, I can see that BGP is an option, but when I type 'router bgp 10', the system returns 'unknown routing protocol'. Are there any special requirements to run BGP ? PIX Firewall user connections
Hi colleagues, I have a question regarding the PIX Firewall: when they mention the number of user connections, what does that actually mean ? Does e.g. the 520 model allow 250,000+ user to be connected simultaneously ? Also, the new 506 PIX model does not specify the number of user connections allowed, does this mean that there is no limit ? Thanks for your help in advance. Cisco 1600 boots into RMON
Hi colleagues, I have a problem when I boot a 1601: the OK LED is blinking, I then connect to it through the console port and see that it is stuck with the RMON> prompt. When I enter the reset command, it boots up ok. After about 1 hour, the router reboots again and gets stuck with the RMON> prompt again. Could this be related to a hardware failure ? Lucent Switch/Cisco router parameters
Hi colleagues, I have a question regarding a frame relay connection that goes through a Lucent/Ascend B-STDX 9000 switch. There are certain configurable parameters on the switch, and I wonder if there are matching parameters on Cisco routers for those: B-STDX 9000Cisco Lmi-autodetect ? DCE poll-verify-timer? DCE error threshold ? DCE event count ? LmiUpdateDelay ? In other words, can I configure any of these parameters on a Cisco router (DTE) ? Thanks for your help in advance. 3620 Modem Pooling
Hello colleagues, do you know if it is possible to configure different modem pools on a 3620 ? And if so, does it matter what kind of modem module I use (6/12/18/24/30-port digital modem or 8/16-port analog modem) ? Can I just use the modem-pool IOS command ? Modem not connected to con/aux port ?
Hello colleagues, I wonder if any of you know if there is a way to find out by looking at the configuration of a router if there is a modem connected to the aux or console port ? I have a router which should have a modem attached to it, but when I try to dial in, I get a NO CARRIER response. I suspect that the cable from the modem is not attached to the router, but I cannot ask anybody at the site if that is really the case. Now I wonder if there is a way (maybe a DEBUG command) to find out if there is physically anything connected to the aux or console port ? I can TELNET to the router and access the configuration. Re: Modem/Console port logon problem
Hi Jason, after adding the line "modem dialin" to my aux port config line, I now get a password prompt; the problem I have now is that the password prompt doesn't respond to my keyboard, the passwords just time out. What could be the reason for this ? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Georg >From: "Jason A. Diegmueller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: "Jason A. Modem/Console port logon problem
Hi colleagues, I have a problem when I dial in to a 2610 router; the router has a U.S. Robotics modem attached via the console port. Upon dialing in, I get a connection but no login prompt. When I telnet in to the router at the same time and configure something on the router, the terminal window which I use for the dial-up connection logs this action, so it looks like my dial-up connection is connected to the router. Do you have an idea why I don't get a login prompt ? Here is the output from the running configuration: line con 0 exec-timeout 3 0 password 7 0526071D354540 login Thanks for your help in advance. Hi Larry, thanks for your answer. What exactly do you mean by enabling the interface first ? My concern is that I do not see any lit LEDs on the interface. ISDN interface problem
Hi there colleagues, I have a problem with my ISDN interface on a Cisco 2610 router. I just had a Telekom engineer at the site verify that the line is ok to the interface, but he cannot see any lights burning on the intreface (B1 and B2 LEDs). When I do a sh isdn status, I get the following: Ener_Erkath#sh isdn status Global ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3 ISDN BRI0/0 interface dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-1tr6 Layer 1 Status: DEACTIVATED Layer 2 Status: Layer 2 NOT Activated Layer 3 Status: 0 Active Layer 3 Call(s) Activated dsl 0 CCBs = 0 The Free Channel Mask: 0x8003 Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0 When I change the ISDN switchtype to basic-net3, it doesn't change the status of the ISDN. Here is the output from the sh int bri0/0: Ener_Erkath#sh int bri0/0 BRI0/0 is standby mode, line protocol is down Hardware is PQUICC BRI Internet address is 10.90.1.70/30 MTU 1500 bytes, BW 64 Kbit, DLY 2 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255 Encapsulation PPP, loopback not set Last input never, output never, output hang never Last clearing of "show interface" counters never Input queue: 0/75/0 (size/max/drops); Total output drops: 0 Queueing strategy: weighted fair Output queue: 0/1000/64/0 (size/max total/threshold/drops) Conversations 0/0/256 (active/max active/max total) Reserved Conversations 0/0 (allocated/max allocated) 5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec 5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec 0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles 0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort 21036936 packets output, 2224160372 bytes, 0 underruns 0 output errors, 0 collisions, 3 interface resets 0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out 140 carrier transitions Does anybody know if this could just mean that the interface is not functioning at all ? What do the carrier transitions mean ? And what does 'standby mode' mean ? I am also not able to bounce the interface (shutdown/no shutdown doesn't change the status on the interface, it remains in standby mode). Thanks for your help in advance !
