Really? How much? Hmm if I return my OM5 to Amazon and turn it into an M1X
for the same money, I'd be rather tempted.

One thing I found when I checked out the K-5 recently is that after a couple
of years using the M1X I'd definitely have to re-learn the camera - even such
simple things as the feel of the camera (exacly where the basic controls are,
how hard to press the buttons, etc.) are very different. I'd also got used to
having a screen on the back of the camera for reviewing shots, adjusting
settings,
etc. And, of course, a major plus of switching formats was a the lens weight.

The one thing I didn't have with the M1X was a backup body. I'd been thinking of
getting an M5 - that would presumably be a lot closer operationally to the M1X.
I know you'd been less than completely satisifed with your one, but for what I
tend to shoot most of the time I suspect It would serve me well enough.

I was still thinking things over - after all, you might decide to get rid of
your M5 because it didn't meet your requirements - when I took a look at Mike's
Camera to see what they would want for an EPL-10 (not for me, but our trusty
old EPL-1 is really getting a bit too long in the tooth) and noticed that they
were apparently prepared to sell me an M1X for what they wanted for an M5.

It arrived today.

Processing C-41 yourself in any format is easy, in my book easier than
b/w because you don't need endless tables of dilutions, times and
temperatures. With C-41, everything is done with the same parameters. It
can be done at home with little more than a developing tank, a bucket of
warm water, a thermometer and the C-41 chemicals.

E6, however, is another thing, not least because it requires very tight
temperature control. If there is no local lab to process it you will
have to send it in for processing.

I still have an MX, LX & K2DMD. From time to time I put a roll of film through
them, simply because I like the feel of them and the lenses I bought many years
ago still do a good job.

I record the everyday ordinary and it's interesting to see how areas change in

happily enjoy those who submit images which do.

I see a couple of options.

You could use the PUG as an excuse to grab the K-5 and give it some exercise.
I know that the 16-50 doesn't like to be left fallow too long, the K-5 probably
prefers to get a bit of exercise now and then too.

You could put the PK adapter on the OM-1 and get some shots using Pentax glass.

You could start an APUG, alternative PUG. Perhaps one with a simplified user
interface that required less moderation, but some sort of password (could be
the monthly topic) to keep spammers out.

You could just enjoy the photos that other people do post, that were taken with
Pentax gear.

I kind of feel guilty that I never get around to even looking for something to
post in the PUG, even though I often look at it and realize I already have a
very topical image in my collection.

Is there a list anyplace of all of the historical PUG topics?

Re: June PUG is up

Thanks, Ralf
I suspected there would be a low turnout.   Henk got the idea but I have
to say it reminds me of Jeff Koons - not to mention the
inside of an old refrigerator bag of mine :-) so - well done  but ugly
is my response :-)
PT -   You clearly know mid-20th century abstract exprssionism - it's a
painting.. it's beautiful ..
it reminds me of a specific painter of that era whose name has drifted
out of my so-called brain.

The lighting is simply whatever is stuck to the roof of my shed - two
strips of LED tape - and the daylight coming in through the door. So I
got lucky there. There were shots at a couple of apertures, but that
one was the DOF I liked best.

200Km S of Phalaborwa in Mpumalanga (which means "Where the sun comes

I thought Ralf's title should have been "ART?"  Marco 's shot was
particularly powerful (whether grab shot

 or posed) it was chilling.

.. Henk's photo is one I've especially liked for a while and

Dave's fun with the crystal ball I thought was the very best of all he
has done playing around with it.

and Alan, I see you do have good light somewhere near you :-)  I gues
you were not in Kruger when you took that one.

But I think a theme does draw more  submissions because it gives us a
starting point and if it is an uncommon subject
for each of us then it becomes a challenge to strtetch interpretation..
I'm scared of planes and 'looking down" so

July will be challenging for me -

Thanks Rick. It looks as both front wings are unsharp due to rapid
movement. Both hind wings have about the same sharpness so there is less
movement at that moment.
DOF is not that great at 300 (450) mm and much cropping is still needed for
such in-flight pics.

a few more contributions.

Then again, I also had a hell of a time finding something that (a) I
wanted to show and that (b) had been taken with Pentax equipment.

I won't even try to come up with favourites. They're all great, each one

Thanks Ann! I thought I had posted it before but can’t say for sure. It seemed
to me that our last Open Gallery evoked comments that there should have been at
least one of our favorite birds, so this time I bit the bullet and took one for
the team.

Regarding tree by the bridge.. me three.. either in 1994 or 2001 -
May not have done a study of it, but I recognize the spot.. I think I
photgraphed a couple of dogs having a tussle there.
I'll check my archives.. Taos was a very important place in my life
starting in 1956.

Yeah nice PUG - all on topic and interesting variety

It is quite possible that we photographed the same tree. I was there after
you, in 2016, so I can't claim it's my tree. IIRC, the tree was near
the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge outside of Taos. The bridge is a major tourist
mecca, so tit is likely we were both there. It is also an infamous
location for suicide jumps, and there is a live suicide hotline in the
middle of the bridge, on each side of the highway.

It is, unfortunately, a rather small gallery this month, but a nice one in
any event. My personal favorites are Don's Dried Burrs and Joseph's desert

It struck me that the guy on the boat in your shot looked like he could be
related to Buffet..

Of the music choices , John Coyle's does it for me.. I don't have to play the
clip - I can hear it
in my head... and I quite like that photo as well.

- butit would have been a draw on the music if John Sessions had used the most
appropriate MOON
DANCE by Van Morrison for his Dancing moon  - I saw this post before I looked
at the photos and was
sorely disappointed about that :-) Moon Dance is one of my very favorite songs,
but I hadno
appropriate shots.

Brian's photo is my favorite and the music is nice too - new to me.

I like Ann's image the best, and I believe that it certainly best fits the

favourite Australian singer/songwriters - even if he was from Scotland
originally!

Re: June PUG is up

2018-06-05 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
The guy in my image is my friend, and the woman to his right is his wife.
They are from Anacortes, WA, and stay at the same condo in Maui we do. Our
trips overlap by a few weeks, and we usually go sailing together at least
once and meet for meals at our favorite restaurants. Del and I usually run
into each other at the hot tub every evening and compare notes while
entertaining the Canadians. The standing woman is one of the crew, who
passes out drinks and snacks after helping launch the ship; the other
people just happened to be in the frams.

Great PUG! Love mountains. They are all good, but two jumped out at me:

Jack's Cathedral Ridge, because of the contrasting colors. And Ken's
Mountain Waves because it's so abstracted it doesn't even have to be a
photo.

But great PUG all around.

I took an image of the old man of the mountain at about the same time, from
the little area at the pond. I also am having trouble finding the original

First the ancient face slides right off the mountain, then we both misplace
our images; Seems like a bit of witchcraft up there in New England.

Re: June PUG is up

2017-06-05 Thread P. J. Alling
The only decent mountain shot I think I have is an image of The Old Man
of the Mountain. I took a year or so before he fell off. It's on film,
and I have no idea where those negatives are, the scans were lost in a
hard drive crash a few years ago. So I had nothing for the pug. These
are all very nice and I just wanted to know how much I hated all of you.

Re: June PUG is up!! (Darren)

2015-06-09 Thread Darren Addy
It was merely a quibble, Jack. Shorelines can be deceptive measures of
"level" since the may "fall away" from you or bend closer. In any
event, I tend to think of off-kilter in terms of degrees of rotation,
since that is normally how I try to fix mine in Photoshop. I sometimes
make use of the selection rectangle to drag horizontal and vertical
line checkers where I want to see if something is out of whack. Quick
and easy and you can move the selection area around with arrow keys if
you want a perfect alignment with some part of your image.

Darren,
You mentioned the "off level" far shore line of Tahoe Silhouette and I blew it
off as a largely insignificant
optical illusion.
Not true. I checked a full screen image and made, easily, a 1/4" correction.

2015-06-07 Thread Dario Bonazza

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for liking that pic & all that photo stuff with Giulia.

Holding out... true. Well, in fact lately I use to post my pics either on
Facebook or on Flickr, but Facebook is Facebook and Flickr is Flickr, so
there will be more than someone disliking that. Also, my new (cheap) website
structure only allows low-res pics like these:

http://www.dariobonazza.com/musica_16.html
http://www.dariobonazza.com/danza_14.html
In brief, I'm afraid I'm not set to show you my pics in a way there won't be
someone asking for another better way to do that.

On the other hand, in the past I had the feeling my pics didn't raise so
much interest here, hence I didn' care so much and I was content enough to
keep posting to the PUG.

However, now I'm going to start a new thread explaining my project with
Giulia.

Cheers,

Dario

HI Brian! Yep, it’s another great PUG. Thanks for all your work, and I agree

think a shout out goes to Jan’s Vissar! The shape of the casted net evokes the

Thanks to all for your kind comments about Lake Michigan—I have to say, if
you’re looking for something really fun to do, grab your bathing suit, head to
the beach when the water is lively, and splash around with a waterproof camera.
If it ever warms up here in Chicago, I hope to do a lot more of that this
summer.

(because it is low key) doesn't grab your attention at thumbnail size
